Default Chat - Thursday 15th January 2004

Hope it is ok for me to start today's chat. I am ahead of you all on the clock here in London.

Well, I got the computer apart and back together, and installed the new desk too, so I am all shiny new in my office. I have had a couple of hours fun putting things in the drawers of the new desk, taking them out again, rearranging my pencils etc etc. You know how it is.

Ruth, hope you had a good birthday. sixty is a fantastic age to be I should think. And I hope you had good and appropriate indulgences on the banqueting front. I have a friend doing SB with me over here and she has already made it very clear that she expects a full on cheese cake for her birthday in April. Good for her. My birthday is July so I thought I might go for strawberry dipped chocolate

Ellis and Franny, I also rather like housey stuff, but very much on the quiet. About 10 years ago I went to the hardware shop and bought myself a cordless drill - huge, powerful, top of the range (the one that all the men hanging around the 'drill' section of the shop were drooling over - dont they have homes to go to??!! ). Anyway, I taught myself to drill holes with it and thus put up shelves, drill together bits of wood etc etc. Loved it. Trouble is, I never finish anything I start. I made all that fuss about taking the computer to bits, but really it was easy.

Chaz, 70 degrees in texas!! wow. We dont get that heat in the summer. It just rains here......

I went on a cruise once Lizzie. It was great! I loved waking up, and seeing nothing but sea. Amazing.

Hi to everyone else. It is very exciting to hear about everyone's lives. It always amazes me how everyone has the same troubles with burst pipes, and difficult people, and muddy (and incontinent) animals and pizza-ish temptations.

Have good thursdays
Clovey (ps the stains seem to have come out of the linen, so no-one need ever know. I think best not to tell the guests......... )

morning clovey I guess no one wants to get up this morning it is so cold here that I am sure that Ruth and Ellis( and the rest of the canadian girls) don't want to come out from under covers and I don't blame them. It is freezing. I would still be there too but school was cancled and the phone started ringing and the kids started pouring in. They are already into a movie. Atleast they are quiet. that won't last for long. Well I must go fill up my tea cup. I will return.....
(glad the stains came out.

Hi little Chick
I expect Ruth has a hang over.

I love it when it is cold. I like pulling all those extra jumpers on and sitting by the fire with some tea and a good book. If you have kids though I suppose that is not much of a likely scenario. Do you get ice storms in Canada? I have always wanted to see an ice storm. But I was talking to a couple of people the other day, a man from India and a woman from Mexico, and they were describing how they felt last winter when they saw thier first snow falling from the sky - they were completely charmed! Understandably.

clovey there is cold and then there is COLD that is what it is here to day it is -38 with the wind chill. I love winter and snow but you can't even go outside you would have frost bite in about 10 minutes if that. They are telling people not to put there pets out. Which includes children We had and ice storm here a few years ago and we were without power for 3 days and some people for weeks it was bad. Although when you looked outside at the trees and the ground it was a sight to see. I wish I had had a digital camera then to take pictures. But it is not something I want to go through again.

Good Morning, Clovey and Little Chick!

Glad to hear from you both so early. Clovey, How early is it in UK? I'm not good at time changes!

Little chick, I'm so sorry to hear about all the troubles with staff and burst pipes for you! What a hassle!!

Clovey, you sound like you are so handy around the house. I love it when women are strong enough to handle all those things that men think only they can do!!! They are such babies sometimes, anyway!
I'm so happy to hear your linens came out clean and bright after the kitty incident! You go, girl on the computer, too!!!!! I on the other hand even have trouble changing my cartridge in the printer!

I had trouble sleeping last night...don't know why! Does that ever happen with you?? Maybe I had a bit too much decaf ???? I have no idea!
But it will be early to bed for me tonight!
It is really cold here, too. Nothing compared to you all in Canada, but cold for the lower midwest...20 degrees F. Anyway, I'm freezing because I always turn down the heat at night, and I forgot to jack it up this morning! Br-r-r-r. Also, I have not had my coffee, so my thinking processes are not clicked in as yet. Must go get coffee, and will return, chickies. Carry on....

It is quarter past one in the afternoon here now Sharon - lunch time!! I have trouble sleeping sometimes. The only thing to do is to get up and walk around and do a chore of some sort, well for me anyway, otherwise I am just counting sheep for hours.....and you feel so awful the next morning. Enjoy the coffee.

Hangover, my fluffy butt! I was awake at 3 and dozed off and on until the Girls woofed at 5.

I've been working on getting the woodstove to warm up the back room ever since. It is devastatingly cold this morning! - 22F/-30C. The Girls are out for just a quick pee. Their fur keeps them warm but there is no fur on their pads or their noses so they are glad to get in. Hershey offers me her paws in turn to hold and thaw out! Would you believe I made them a hot breakfast? They had Scotch Broth soup and crunchies.

Clovey, please don't mention The Ice Storm. We were without power which means no heat or water for three weeks. It was pretty awful and a life changing experience. I worked in the emergency shelter 6 to 6 cooking major meals for the people living there and for all the emergency workers. What an experience!

Yesterday's "celebrations" were fun. Bruce Springsteen didn't show with the champagne and lobster but Claire and Rob came over with cake and a card and gift. It's so nice to have good friends like them. All the good wishes in here, on email and in the Journals made me feel very cherished. I think I'm good for another 65 years now.

Kevin didn't show yesterday - kid problems, I think, but should be here today. We also have another frassing social worker from Community Access who will evaluate our situation to see if we qualify for a Homemaker a couple of hours a week. I have yet to figure out what they do! It certainly isn't housework and H. sure doesn't need someone to help him take a bath! I imagine I will just accept one gracefully and use the 3-4 hours to shop, meet my sister for lunch or get my hair done. The darn social worker informed me she does not like dogs and would like them "put somewhere else" when she visits! Snotty, isn't she? My poor Girls adore company and will be very hurt!

Food plans were all shot to **** yesterday and I ate way too much all day. I have a bit of indigestion this morning so this will be an abstemious day, i.e., marked by restraint especially in the consumption of food or alcohol - I just looked it up! I did not even go near the scale this morning.

Harry is up and ready for breakfast so I'm outa here.

Back again....after a little coffee! And feeling much more alert!

Wow, Clovey, your day is half over now. I am just deciding what I want to accomplish today. Yesterday DH and I took down our huge hanging chandelier in the dining room and replaced it with a less expensive one before we put our home up for sale. We want to take our good one with us. We have decided to "size down" in the Spring, and build a home that is about half the size of our present one...and is all on one level (instead of a bi-level like we have now). I'm tiredd of carrying laundry up and down the stairs! Anyway, we have lived in this home for 30 years, and you can imagine how much "stuff" we have accumulated! Oh, my gosh, what a job we have trying to get rid of it and cleaning!!! We will take the month of February off to go to Marco Island, Florida to spend the whole month in a condo on the beach. I can't wait! Long walks on the beach and the sunsets! Just amazing! Then as soon as we return the 1st of March, we get the home ready to put up for sale. Our realtor is ready!

Can you tell, I've had coffee, and am much more talkative? Isn't caffein amazing? I must have one cup (sometimes 2) in the AM just to get going for the day! I'm off to get ready for the gym and my hour of exercise. Yesterday I did 20 minutes on the treadmill and then took an hour Yoga class. It was great, but I'm really sore in some unusual places today!
Today I think I'll take a Water Aerobics class and then do treadmill. I am trying to get this "bod" ready for swimwear by February! What a chore!

Have a great day everyone!
Hugs to all who will pop in later!
Sharon

Morning to you, too, Ruth!

Glad you had a good birthday. Abstinence is a good thing the "day after." Hey, that "homemaker" gal sounds pretty good. Wonder what I have to do to get one? I need someone to come in here and get me moving on getting rid of 30 years of accumulation around her!
Have a great day....I'm off to the gym if I don't freeze my off 1st!

Default Good Morning!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone!
And happy belated bday to Ruth!
Well, I made it thru week 1...and I'm still here!
Went out to dinner last night & was very good with food choices...shrimp (without cocktail sauce), beef carpaccio, & baked littlenecks, BUT...I did have 1 1/2 glasses of red wine...and it was worth it...but, I'm wondering, does having that wine last night trash all my good choices I made all week long?
My boss (who is doing the SBD with me, and I would like to KILL as HE has lost 11 lbs already...to my 4...), claims by having the vino, I have thrown myself out of ketosis mode & now it'll be 3 days to get back on track.
Any ideas or thoughts on this? (How I hope & pray he is mistaken!)
Thanks & have a wonderful, happy day!
Jan

Hi again, Ruth everyone deserves cake on their birthday. A homemaker would be a wonderful help to you my grandmother had one to come in and help her with my grandfather she then could just get out of the house for a bit and not have to worry about him. I hope that you can get one. And I can not imagine anyone not liking dogs. Silly snobby girl. Deets caffine is a wonderful thing. Well I must go again as the kids neeeeeeeeeeed the computer or the world will come to an end.

Hi, girls!

Clovey, I'm the same. I rarely finish anything properly. I get bored half-way through a project.
I'm glad you got your computer back together!
And if I ever come to visit, I will insist on new linens.

Little Chick, we beat you! It's -41C here with the windchill. Thank god we don't have a gun. Do you think Clovey would be cozy over here? Me, either.
Hey, did you have that ice storm, too? I can't remember where it extended to. It was wicked, wasn't it.

Sharon, you need to have a little nap, hon. I had two naps yesterday for a total of six hours. Do you think it's the cold weather?

Ruth, I'm glad you had a good day yesterday. What do you mean, she doesn't like dogs!? That's ridiculous! Has she even MET Lucy and Hershey!? I could understand if they were like my SIL's yappers, but yours are darlings! What a witch.

Well, I'm having a burst of energy. Must be the six hours of naps I had yesterday.
Back later... have a wonderful day, girls!

January, you shouldn't go into ketosis with SBD. Don't worry about the wine... you'll be FINE!

Default Ketosis

Hi again,
Ellis thanks for the "spiriting" news about the wine!
I read the SBD book, and I thought that when we are in fat burning mode it's "ketosis"...I may have misread (wouldn't be the first time..hard to read ANYTHING with a 4 & 6 year old!).
Maybe that just applies to Atkins...could someone clarify for me please...
Thanks,
Jan
