Talking Pregnant & Staying Fit 2004... try#2

Ok.. here's trying again....

I know there was a reply to my last post but I can't find the thread at all... even using the search function.

I'm due again May 16th with my second child... looks like another girl.

I'm not sure who it was who replied to me before, but I am trying again to do a lower carb type of eating... sticking to the good carbs as much as possible for my daily carb needs. This is a lot easier now that I'm over the morning sickness. I didn't have it badly at all this time around than God.

I'd love to have others to talk about throughout this pregnancy. For instance... anyone else out there having back problems? Any ideas to get through this problem would be great.

Wow, you go girl!
I am a mom of 2 wonderful boys, Cameron is 2.5 almost 3 and Ryan is 5 months old....With boys pregnancy's I gained so much weight....Mostly due to my HORRIBLE eating...but also to my lack of exercise... When I am not preg I am extremely active and eat healthy, I always wish that I had kept it going while I was pregnant.
Anyways, I have now lost the 73 pounds I gained being pregnant and another 6 beyond that....
I admire the fact that at a time when most women are HIGHLY vulnerable to food, you choose to make better choices....thats awesome.
If you are doing a lower carb eating, I have a few suggestions for you...
Weight Watchers Bread...
Snackwells Crackers....(mmmm, barbeque flavored are my fav)
no banana's, although they are great for potassium, not so great on carbs...
Hope these can be somewhat of a help for you!

I replied but I haven't been able to find the thread. It's like it disappeared. I'm due 2/7/04 w/girl. I've done low carb for about 3 1/2 yrs but after getting pregnant I've gone from 145-185. I was sick for the first 6 months and all I could eat w/out puking was carbs. I couldn't tolerate meat, fruits, veggies. Now I can eat w/out getting sick but having a terrible time getting back to the low carb way. I've stopped exercising for the past 6wks because I was having bad contractions. Now my doctor said I can start back because she can come anytime now and be fine. But even getting that routine back is hard. Anyways since I stopped I can so tell I'm starting to spread in places I don't want to. My pants are tighter in the hips now. I want so bad to start low carbing (healthy of course) but need someone to help me. I had this big dream that with this pregnancy I was going to eat right, exercise, and wear the cutest maternity clothing. Guess What??? I've done none of it. I did start out exercising religiously until around thanksgiving and now its Jan.14th. undefinedDO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS TO HELP US STAY MOTIVATED or IN MY CASE GET BACK MOTIVATED. undefined This baby is due in 3 wks and I'm not going to go another 4yrs trying to lose pregnancy weight like I did with my third.

Wow Leanne... you rock! 79# gone in under 6 months... I hope I can follow in your shoes. Thanks for the encouragement. I am trying really hard to eat the good foods, but boy do I crave potato chips and sourcream and onion dip! I am doing pretty well at staying away from them though.

butterfly... I can totally relate to the dream of wearing cute maternity clothes and exercising all the way through. And to the disappointment of not making the dream come true. I was a bit lower at the start of this pregnancy than with my first, but not nearly enough for the really cute maternity stuff. And I got big a lot faster. Also... I've been doing the braxton hicks contractions and am not allowed to exercise either... it seems just working is almost too much. I am a Montessori teacher and I have a class of 25 3 - 6 year olds so I'm on my feet a lot and when I'm not I'm up and down off the floor.

As to help getting back on program with exercise and low carbing I can only tell you to take it one day at a time. Sometimes (as with the chips and dip cravings) I actually take it 15 minutes at a time. Getting back into the exercise routine can be even harder than the food routine in my opinion. Even though I know I will feel better afterwards making myself exercise is always a real chore. It's easier to get into the habit of not exercising than it is to get back into the habit of actually going out there and doing it.

For me I find that at least part of it is the extreme fatigue I'm suffering. I know that I would feel less tired and definitely less stressed after a 20 minute walk, but actually finding the energy to start on that walk sometimes seems impossible. And for now I'm not allowed to anyhow so I know I have a lot of effort to look forward to once I'm given the go ahead to exercise again.

Have either of you had one of the 3D ultrasounds? We are going to get one around 30 weeks. I am really looking forward to it. Mya looks at the sample pictures in the books and says "hi baby" I can't wait to have pictures of her own baby for her to look at. I will probably have one more regular ultrasound between now and then too. I have a fibroid that they are monitoring - so far so good - it doesn't seem to be growing much at all thank God. I have to say I'm enjoying having all these chances to watch the pregnancy progress. We only had one ultrasound with Mya, and I didn't even know the 3D ones were available in our area.

I hope all is going well for you and your families,

Lara

I went to Wal-mart today and got some last minute things to pack in bag for hospital. I gotta have my own pads and personal items like that. The hospitals is that cheap junk. Anyways I'm looking forward to start walking today. I got checked at dr. appt. Thursday and starting bleeding so she told me to wait a day or two to start back walking. Your right about the walking it is easy BUT hard to get started. I have my shoes sitting by the treadmill so I don't have to make an excuse to go get them. I have a little less than 3wks to go. About the 3D ultrasound, I wanted one so bad but the office did a regular one. I don't know if they offer them or the insurance won't pay for it. There expensive. I'm not doing to hot on eating good. I'm not over eating just eating whatever. I'm just going to eat what my family eats but as soon as this baby is born I'm back on program. I'm breastfeeding so I can't do hardcore low-carb but can stay around 60carbs. Hopefully by walking and eating a normal helping I will be fine for the rest of the pregnancy.

good luck to you butterfly... I'm only at 23 weeks... so I have a while to plan what I'm going to put in my hospital bag... last time I didn't use half of what I took and wished I had packed some things I hadn't thought of. (Like my own pads.) Of course, if Mya hadn't ended up in the NICU I may have used more of what I took. I don't think I slept for longer than 45 minutes at a stretch those first few days... and I certainly didn't have time to relax and read a book or listen to music. This time I hope the baby doesn't give us any reason to worry.

I also plan to breast feed, so I'm thinking more about somersizing than any of the other low carb diets. It's what I'm tying to do now. (Although not eating sandwiches is making lunches to take for work hard.) But I do enjoy being able to have pasta on occasion even if it is with fat free/ protein free sauce only. (I do miss meat sauce on my pasta.) But I can eat all the fruit I want as long as I eat it on it's own, and the only veggies I have to really stay away from are potatoes, corn and carrots. Although I do occasionally still eat carrots and they really aren't on Suzanne's program. I really like not having to worry about carb grams in veggies and fruit.

Mya loves going for walks so once I'm given the ok to exercise again we are going to walk daily... and once the baby arrives we'll be able to take her/him? with us. My children are going to be my inspiration and motivation for exercising.

I woke up this morning telling myself I would eat good BUT I had icecream/breakfast, McDonalds/lunch, cereal/dinner. Today was bad. This is not a typical day for me at all. I felt nausous today so just ate what sounded good.

I know firsthand what this kind of eating can do to you even if its a one time thing and I feel guilty I fed the baby that crap.

WHY AM I HAVING THIS HARD OF A TIME GETTING BACK OP ?????? I hate it. With it being the first of the year all our yearly bills are due: homeowners, taxes, that this month money is tight so I'm having a hard time keeping descent food around. Veggies and fruit go bad so fast and I can't afford to go to the store every other day right now like I'm use to doing. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS????

butterfly... I am so with you on this! It was my hubbies birthday on Friday and his Mom came over and made dinner. I ate horribly. She brought Chocolate cake and Ben & Jerry's. And I had seconds of dessert. I haven't been feeling well either and cooking has been tough -- I feel guilty too because I am not eating well enough for the baby, and I haven't been feeding Mya well enough either.

As for suggestions as to fruits and veggies and what to do about them going bad, I've been buying frozen veggies... and some frozen fruits. But mostly I've been buying apples and oranges as fruit... they last longest.. and supplementing with some canned fruits.

I hope this helps you some.

Default HI Ladies

Hi there

I wrote a week or so ago, which I should have known was for some bigger reason then I knew...I just found out today that I am pregnant with my 3rd CHILD....I have an almost 3 year old, a 6 month old and now another on the way in September or so....SO, I find myself eating my words from my last post here....I wish I oculd have had better pregnancies for both my boys, and I just finished losing all my pregnancy weight and here I go again...SO this time, I am with you- pregnant and trying to stay healthy and FIT....no junk, no chocolate, no crap...I am the queen of HORRIBLE eating while I am pregnant, but I have spent the past 6 months working SO hard to get rid of it, that I cannot spend another summer like I did last year...so now, this very minute I am making a promise to my unborn child and to my 2 boys
to be the best healthiest mom I can be.

Sorry I haven't been on. I've been on bed rest so I'm trying to take it easy but now I'm bored out of my mind. Well, for the whole month of January I didn't gain one pound. YEAH !!!! I haven't stuck to low carbs like I said I would but still I haven't gained. I'm being induced THURSDAY instead of Friday. What's sad is even though I'm having my daughter Thursday all I can think of is " oh god I have to start low carbing next week" isn't that sad. I refuse to keep the pregnancy weight on. LeanneM83 hope you stick to your goal. Lord knows I started out with good intentions but being so sick I just couldn't and after so long it was soooo hard to get back on track. I know after I have the baby I can do it. I'm breastfeeding so I can't go to low but I can still lose eating up to 65 carbs a day. GOOD LUCK. I may not be back on until after I have the baby my nerves are rattled because I know what's gonna happen Thurday.
