Default anyone else dislike artificial sweeteners?

i just started south beach diet and i left out the ricotta dessert because i really really dislike artificial sweeteners... they always have a bad aftertaste and give me headaches. i've tried splenda, stevia, plus the usual ones like equal.

would it be really bad to use just a little powdered sugar in the ricotta cremes? should i just forget about having anything sweet for the next two weeks?

any advice/info would be appreciated. thanks!

I hope you get a reply.....I am starting sbd on Monday and I also do not like the taste of artificial sweeteners. I guess I could just chew some sugar free gum to satisfy my sweet tooth? Doesn't sound like a very appealing solution.

Good Luck to you!

You could use your extra 75 calories in the form of sugar. See the Phase I food list in FAQ. (Frequently Asked Questions)

Remember that the menu plans in the book are guidelines, not rules. Perhaps you should consider just not having desserts while on Phases I and II.

I don't like them, either, but I've gotten used to the taste of Splenda (sort of ) I'd be inclined just to skip the desserts... it's too easy to go overboard when you start adding just a little sugar.

I have to agree with Ellis and those who don't like these artificial thingy sweeteners!

I've tried them, and would rather go without than have something sweet. The gum is OK with me occasionally. Other than that , I avoid it.

I'm not too crazy about most sweet things that I make on my own. I like sugar free pudding by Jello, and I also love the sugar free cheesecake at Ruby Tuesdays.

Oh yeah - usually when I want something sweet, I have hot tea with a packet of Splenda. I usually drink a sugar free chai, or my absolute favorite is Celestial Seasonings Madagascar Vanilla Red.
Oh yum, it is great, decaf and full on antioxidants. With a splash of FF half and half, or skim milk. YUM! I'm usually satisfied after that. I'm not a huge tea drinker, but I just love this stuff.

I'll have to check out that tea to, I love Celestial Seasonings brand. I bought Gingerbread Spice (yum) and for awhile I was downing Morning Thunder because of the yerba mate' in it and that was really good as well. Should go back to that to cut back on the coffee and soda!
