I am just starting us up because it is too darn cold in here. Hope the furnace isn't broken! I turned it down just a bit last night but this bedroom is freezing.
Back in a bit - wearing woolies outside and hot coffee inside!
Whew! The furnace is working but dear Harry had his bedroom window open! Darn Brits and their addiction to fresh air! The woodstove downstairs held beautifully and The Girls and I had a cozy love-in while I sipped my coffee.
Kevin comes back this morning to install the doors and shelf in the new closet. He claims this part won't be dusty but I'm going to swaddle this machine anyhow! I hope to pop in during the day just to keep in touch. I certainly hope we have a quiet time for a few days in here! I mean quiet as far as problems go! Just keep chatting!
Hmmm - just noticed a problem with the time on the posts. It's really after 7:30 here although it looks like 6:30! If it's a problem for you too, don't fret. I'll get it fixed.
I need to get dressed and back to work. Have a super day.
What you mean is, please don't do anything major that Ellis will have to handle, because she is completely incapable.
Ruth, I'm glad your furnace is all right! I told DH not to turn the heat down too much when he came up last night. The night before he turned it WAY down, and it took half the day to heat the house up.
It's -39C with the windchill right now. I'm keeping the kids home. We went out for groceries last night, and my hanging-on-cough had moved on to a VERY sore throat. There's no WAY anyone in this house is going out to brave frostbite. And no coffee for me, this morning.
I'll be back later to make sure no one is swearing.
Ellis sweetie try some tea, that seemed to help me. I have the darn hanging on cold as well. Although I am feeling better the cough just stays with me.
Ruth an open window in this cold??? glad it's not the furnace.
Ellis Sweetie, I know you are a coffee person but ginger tea will help. You can make it by chopping or shredding fresh ginger root and steeping it in boiling water for ten minutes. I swear by it. Dammit! I wish you lived near me!
I wish you did, too! I don't have any ginger in my freezer! All I found was a small bag of old, dried out coffee. (I ran out of my good stuff yesterday, and I thought it was a good sign... I shouldn't drink coffee while I'm sick.) But I've got some half and half, so I'm going to have coffee anyhow. I know... I know... it's very bad of me. "Don't come running to ME when you're sick and you've been drinking coffee, Ellis!"
Sflake, I've got some herbal tea... I can't drink regular tea. I've got IBS, and tea gives me the WORST pains imaginable. That and raisins, which I ate yesterday. I had to lie down on the floor to ease the pain.
(Ruth, please note that Sflake is drinking coffee despite the fact that she's still sick.)
I hate to tell you this, Sflake, but I see in my crystal ball that we're going to have this cough for quite some time. You'd better take the winter off and stay home.
Whats wrong with coffee?, I never heard of staying away from coffee when you are sick, but I just dumped it and now I am making a nice cup of green tea.
Just popping in for a minute before going to exercise.
What is this stuff about not drinking coffee??????
Never.....never!!
Warmth to you all!
Move around more!!!
Talk more later!!
Sharon
I couldn't get on yesterday either - and I can't cook!
Is it just me or did anyone else notice how we got a new moderator and the system blitzed? (picture the rolling on the floor laughing smilie here) - just teasing Ellis - I heard about another diet site that went down because of the New Year activity it received.
hope you are all well - I am here freezing like the rest of you.
Geez, Silverneedl. I see you are back to one post. Welcome again! (picture the rolling on the floor laughing smilie here)
We northerners are tough. (Didja notice none of those Southern chicks have dared to come in here?)
No coffee? Where on earth did anyone get that piece of information?
Ok....here is a southern chick...and it is damn cold here too. I had a real bad cold over the holiday and I lived on coffee. Made my throat feel better. I gained 2 lbs over the holiday....time to pin my ears back and get on with it!!!! Glad we are all safe!!
Oh crap! Kevin just called. He has a dead truck and can't come today to finish the closet. All his equipment is in the truck so I can't even go and get him. Ah well! I can adapt. Friend Rob just came over and lugged in wood for me so we can cozy down for the rest of the day.
Hello everyone
I had to re-register because of the crash, but I think I have done it properly. Computers are scary things. A 'major hardware crash' is what happens when the cat pees in your pc is it not? Or when (as once happened to me) a burgler comes in and snaffles it. Well, thanks for all the hard work getting the system up and running again.
It is not very cold here - I rather envy your minus 39 chill ellis.
We have a recipe for coughs and colds which is that you boil up (for about 15 mins) a clove of garlic with a lump of ginger root and a squeeze of lemon juice. It is brilliant stuff, although not really palatable without a great sloop of honey, which is a bit of a no-no on this windswept coast-line. But I think garlic has some sort of antiseptic property which gets to work on the throat, and ginger is used in Chinese medicine for restoring yang. or is that yin? Restoring something. In any event the garlic makes sure that no-one comes near enough to you to catch your germs, so that must be good.
I am doing my tax return. Need I say more? My accountant has moved from polite letters, through demands for receipts, and now she is in the phoning me twice a week and pleading stage. Poor woman. I would not like me as a client.
So I will join all of you coffee drinking ladies now and get my caffein up and running around.
love, Clovey
