Hi - I am looking into this plan - I'm home with a new baby and can't always prepare meals. I can order anything from take out - steamed fish or shrimp, salads etc. - how does the SBD incorporate dining out or prepared foods?
Hi Daisy~~
The SB diet plan is the same at home as it is if you dine out.By that I mean stick to the allowed food list. You do not have to eat exactly what is on their menue for the day. All you have to do is pick foods from the allowed lists and keep it simple. Most of my dinners are lean meats/fish (chicken breasts, fish, sirloin burger patties, meatballs, meatloaf, shrimp, salads, etc . You can even have a huge omlette if you want.
The Phase 1 (2 weeks) is alittle more difficult to eat out but it can be done.
Salads are always an option, ie: grilled salmon salad, roasted or grilled chicken breast salad, chefs salad, etc. Pick lean meats and veggies. My favorite dine out food on SB is chicken, shrimp or steak fajitas~just don't eat the tortillas. Try to stay away from things that have a sauce because of the sugar and/or flour content. You can even get a grilled chicken sandwich, just don't eat the bread unless it's wheat and you are on Phase 2.
Subway sandwiches with lean meats and veggies (on whole wheat) could be had on P2.
The easiest thing is to prepare very simple meals at home with enough for leftovers (lunch the next day). When I cook chicken breasts, salmon steaks, sirloin burger patties, roasted veggies, shrimp, etc I always cook extra to have in the fridge.
On that same line, be sure to keep some of the staple foods on hand for quick snacks:hard boiled eggs, eggs/eggbeaters, cottage cheese, string cheese, veggie quiches, celery sticks, canned tuna, frozen cauliflower, low fat cheeses, ricotta desserts, SF jello, pistachios, sliced turkey breast for roll-ups....
It is so much easier if you plan and prepare things ahead.
Sil - thanks for the reply. I normally would not find the preparation of simple menus like that to be a big deal - but with an 8-week-old infant at home (our first child), it takes me until 11:00 a.m. to even make a cup of tea! But we have a great market near us with wonderful prepared foods (grilled salmon, chicken, salads, quiches) - so as long as I can eat those prepared foods, I will be fine.
I just wanted to make sure that the recipes were not required for the diet.
Since I have your attention already - how are you finding this WOE? I have about 60 lbs to lose (20 from before the baby and another 30 after - yikes!). How long have you been on it and what are your thoughts?
Hi Daisy
I have been on SB since July 2003. I am 48 yrs old, 5'3" and started at 140# , only 15# from my goal , and I'm going through menopause. So, I know that it will take longer for me to lose the weight than it will for a younger person.
I beleive that I lost 6-7 pounds the first 2 weeks, and a total of 13 pounds over a few months. This was without any exercise. (#127~ a few pounds from my goal weight of 125). I maintained this weight for several months and then started creeping up again because I was cheating. Recently, the Halloween candy didn't help either.
So, I am restarting SB on a "mostly" Phase 1 plan WITH adding some exercise .
Not only is this a wonderful way of eating (WOE) for weight loss but it is very heart healthy. Being a cardiac nurse, I find this WOE not only healthy for me but for my patients. So, I often share this with them .Women, obesity and diabetes are a deadly combo and we need to be looking out for ourselves.
Good luck.
I had gestational diabetes, which really threw me for a loop. I am a WW lifetime member and had maintained my goal weight since 1997 (until about 6 months before becoming pregnant) and have always excercised. I did not have any of the "typical" risk factors for GD.
But I have since learned that having GD puts me a greater risk for type II diabetes. Once I learned that (and after several months of testing blood sugar and limiting carbs while pregnant), I knew I had to get my weight under control. I tried going back on WW last week, but there I was with the fat free waffles - journaling my points and craving sugar all day! I read about the SBD on this board and it sounded right for me. Especially with the great support on this board.
If I can get the baby to cooperate, I will be heading to the bookstore to get the book later today...
Thanks for sharing your stats - you must feel great having done so well. Congrats.
Welcome to the Beach, Daisy. Post often. It sounds to me as if you have ahandle on this whole thing and lots to share.

I have dieted most of my adult life and SB is the only one that I feel that I can stay on for life. I don't believe that it is a FAD diet. It just make healthy sense.
I also did WW at home a few years ago. Although I did lose some weight, I found that I was only counting points and not really looking at the quality of my choices. I mean, you COULD have 32 pts and it be a full day of carbs. I mean, how healthy is a frozen waffel, anyway? Much better to have a whole wheat slice of bread (P2)soaked in eggbeaters and cook as french toast, sprayed with some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and sprinkled with Splenda and cinnamon.
I have every diet book on my shelf and SB is the only one that I would reccommend. Good luck and come here often. Check out the Daily Chat and you will find lots of support here.
