Happy All Saints Day! I'm planning to move into sainthood today after darned old Hallowe'en and its temptations. Bless me somebody for I have sinned.
Yes, I did eat some of the treats but this is a new month and I'm back on plan. I just threw out Cheetos, PB cups and Glossettes and dumped turkey bones on top so I won't be tempted. (There is something so degrading about fishing candy out of the garbage!)
We had about 40 short and spooky little folks here last night. It was a lovely mild night so I sat on the porch in my witch regalia with Hershey beside me as my creature and doled out the goodies. (We did have a witch around here a hundred years ago and some of the kids are convinced I am Mother Barnes, the Witch of Plum Hollow. http://www.pararesearchers.org/Psych...es/barnes.html
I did my witch act at a kiddies' party in 2000 and they have never forgotten. Too funny! )
This should be a fairly quiet day. Dr Bob bought yet more tulip bulbs to plant at the Church but I'm opting out of the 8 AM planting bee. I'll go to the Dump (my fave!) and then take Harry to the Library and that will kill the morning.
Tomorrow is Church and then the Ag. Society Annual General Meeting and Dinner which will be long and boring. No! I am not going to go back to being Treasurer but will still be the Director for the school contributions. The "new" treasurer survived the audit and is feeling much more confident about doing another year. I hope she soon loses my phone number!
Just a quick hello and a fast cup of coffee with you this a.m. Some breakfast of Uncle Sam's Cereal and strawberries, then I am off to Curves and some grocery shopping. This afternoon two carloads of ladies are going shopping for clothes at a special shop some miles away from here. At Kississmee. How's that for the name of a city? I'm still painting t-shirts for our craft fair next Sat. and I have to get those done. Hope I can sell them after all the work. :
Have a great weekend everyone. And I'm glad that everyone has survived Halloween and temptation. Lizzie
Oh Ruthie I just love ghost/paranormal stories! and bless you BTW.
Lizzie I have been to kississmee and it's a beautiful area. Actually I think every place in Fl. is beautiful
We didn't have that many kids...maybe 25 mostly all pee wees. Today is a birthday party for my MIL. Hopefully I will be able to stay op This weekend is nothing but yard work for me. It seems to have turned to fall overnight. We have a tree in the back yard that is the most stunning color yellow, Although the temp has gone up to about 70 F.
Having a quick cup of coffee and just came in, we had rain last night and even some snow in the local mountains where the fires are. It is settling down here and they are begining to be able to make real progress in getting a handle on the fires, I feel much better now, we are all just seeing what we can do here locally to help. I donated to the firefighters and to the assistance fund for the victims.
I am going to do phase 1 on Monday.....I am having a visit from TOM right now and can't bring myself to do it today.
Happy All Saints Day to all, and thanks for the prayers here to Cal! it is working..
We only had 5 kids last night!!! AND we have a ton of candy left. DH is going to have to take it to work with him!!! We live on a main road, and there is a park across the street, and hardly anyone else on our block hands out candy, so the kids figure it isn't worth it and go to busier blocks. BUMMER!!!
Ruth-It is GREAT that you dress up like that!! I still have fond memories of a woman in our neighborhood who did that!! Even though she handed out apples (?!?!) we ALWAYS went to her house. She sat in the dark and started cackling when we came near. VERY scary!!
I am starting phase 1 again today, and am now signed up for Curves, so i will actually be EXERCISING!!! We are going to a Chinese restaurant with friends this afternoon, so I'll do the best i can with it. No rice, something with lots of veg and chicken, and avoid the sauce. (thickener)
Lizzie, Sflake, Ellis, Rowan, and all the other beach beauties yrt to post: HI! HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! (Rowan-SO glad to hear the fires are starting to calm down.)
Just got back from swim aerobics, and boy is it COLD outside, only 30 degrees. BRRR. The water was really cold and then warm while excercising but it was hard the last ten minutes with the cool down. I was just plain ole' turning blue. I stopped at my favorite coffee stand and treated myself to a sugar-free chai tea.
I did not to do bad yesterday with Halloween. I had a portion of dirt-slime n' worms (a dessert I had made for the kids the night before) the slime was sugar free, but the "dirt" was chocolate cake. Then last night, I only had 2 fun size chocolates. None of it tasted all that great so I just stopped myself and moved on.
The rest of the food at our party was o.k. I don't think I did all that bad. I had 1 bowl of my grandmothers potato soup (my favorite and I am the one who convinced her to make it) and 2 bread sticks, the rest was on the food list so i was o.k.
Other than that, we are still winterizing the house and hanging out by the fireplace. It's pretty cozy to snuggle up at night in front of the fire and drink sf hot cocoa!
Everyone have a wonderful day, I will check back in later after dbf goes to work.
Very Cold here for L.A., probably not by some of our northern neighbors, but when we are in the 30-40 here it is cold....we don't have the level of insulation and preparation that our colder climates have. My house has NO insulation so it is freezing this morning.
It looks like rain and we would be so grateful for that. Again, on the news this morning they are talking about the rain brining high danger of floods and erosion during the rainy months. I don't think that this will be the end of this for a while, but this Sunday is much better outlook then earlier this week.
Need to go shopping for phase 1 later, but we still have the stupid strike going on, and I think that I may just cross the line....I don't know if I am as supportive of their position after learning more about what they are upset about....another story.
I am working today as ususal....hope that everyone has a wonderful sunday!!!
Just drove out to have a coffee with my sweet Dad. He looks like he's dead. He's having a blood transfusion tomorrow, which will pick him right up.
DH is getting the children ready for church, and I am going to enjoy a couple of hours of QUIET TIME!!
Ellis, I think I've missed...why does your Dad need a transfusion?
I know that look. My Dad had open heart surgery a couple of years ago and had to have a few pints until he looked and felt normal again. Hope he's better soon!
We had about 200 trick or treaters, maybe more. We left a bowl of candy on the porch while we were out so I'm not sure how many we missed. We live in the section of town that everybody hits on Halloween. One house up from me makes their wrap around porch a haunted house every year, and this year the Catholic Students house made their house into a burning haunted house. (They used fog juice) A young man stood on the porch in an angel outfit (the funny kind wearing shorts, a bow, and wings and nothing else) and gave out candy and a fireman escorted the kids through. Cody had a blast.
All the fraternity houses gave out candy, and Cody felt soooo cool getting candy from them. He went to one house and there was a row of guys that asked what he was. One guy guesses a bag of jelly beans and Cody said yes, and the guys start screaming Alllllllllll Right!!!!!!!!!!!!! and gave him a high five. Cody looked thrilled beyond belief, and another guy asks real enthusiastically 'What's your favorite flavor??????' and Cody says kinda quietly 'cherry?' and the guy screams ME TOOOOOOOO! And he high fives him again. It was so funny. Cody came back down the sidewalk saying this was the best Halloween he has ever had. Whew. Probably more information than you all cared to hear! All of our candy is gone. Cody keeps offering his, but so far I've said no to all of it. I told him to eat all the good stuff first!
Ruth, that's great that you dress up! A man in our neighborhood dressed up as Superman and gave out candy. Everybody loved that. He really looked like him, too. Hubba-hubba! Had some other fun people...a house that had a gangster and a flapper girl. They were fun, having shoot outs in their yard. Do you have any pictures?
Thanks, Jennifer. Dad had a triple by-pass this summer, but just before the surgery they discovered that he's no longer producing red blood cells AT ALL, so he'll have to have periodic transfusions for the rest of his life. I just hope they get it worked out so that he doesn't keep hitting rock bottom before they'll give him another one. It just doesn't make sense. They should just keep him topped up. He's dizzy, breathless, and has to sit in a chair all day right now. His surgery was a great success, and he SHOULD be walking around all over the place instead of sitting on his butt losing muscle tone.
I had no trick-or-treaters on Friday night. Well, actually, I wasn't home to great and treat, so I don't know if I had any or not! I went to a University of North Dakota vs Yale hockey game with my brother, and had a great time. And what a good excuse to not buy any Halloween candy, and I didn't have to worry about left-overs. A lot of people went to the game in costumes, I had as much fun watching them as I did the game.
Ellis, I didn't realize that your Dad was having problems with not making red blood cells! Does he has aplastic anemia? Does he have problems with low platelet counts too, or only the red blood cells? I do hope they can transfuse him sooner, he shouldn't have to hit bottom before they'll boost him back up again.
Jennifer, 200 trick or treaters!!! WOW!!! It sounds like Cody had a wonderful time!
Rowan sweetie, are you doing ok? You've been on my mind for days, but I haven't had a chance to answer your pm, but I haven't forgotten about you. I'm working today too, but just taking a quick break to check in with everyone.
Ruth, I would love to see pictures of you in your costume! It sounds like you had as much fun as the kids!!
Lizzie, I've stayed in Kississmee, when I came to Florida to see Disney World. I've always loved the name of that town!!
Den, yippee for you for joining Curves!!!! You deserve a big round of applause!! You're on your way girl, you are going to succeed!!
Hi sflake, 1busymomma, and everyone else. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!!
Thank you, Twodog. I'm not sure what it's called. It's just the red blood cells that he has stopped producing. He's on his way to the hospital right now. By this afternoon he'll be looking about 20 years younger and will be marching all over the place. And he'll no longer have that, "fresh in his coffin look". shudder.
