Just a question... Was wondering how long all of you have been on south beach and how much weight you've lost. Is there anyone here who needs to lost about 50 pounds? How about people who are a little older, do you think it takes us a little longer?
Jenny, I'm 39 and have lost 13 pounds so far. I have another 45 or so to lose.
I lost the 13 (actually 15) during the first month of South Beach, but since then I've been cheating madly. I've gained back two pounds, and am starting Phase I again this weekend.
Good luck!
I have been on SBD for just over 3 months, and have lost 21 pounds so far. For the past month I've not really lost anything, just kind of been playing with the same two pounds up and down. I want to lose another 50-60 pounds....my final goal will be determined when I get there I do think that as we get older we tend to lose slower. I'm 45 and I know I lose slower than I did when I was in my 20s (as you can see, I'm no novice to trying to lose weight!)
Hi Jenny: I'm 74 and have been on SBD for nearly 4 months. I have lost 5 lbs, in the first phase 1. I am on a new med that has slowed my metabolism some, and so it is much slower for me. I need to lose 12lbs more to get back to my lifetime goal from WW and I know it will eventually happen. I'm not new to the diet scene either as you can tell, and know that I can just never give up. But there are days when I think it would be easier to just 'throw in the towel' Then my better jusdgement takes ahold and I know I want to be healthy. Lizzie
Wow what fantastic stats you all have.. you are doing so well, I only hope I can do as well. I'm 65 and it's just been uphill all the way with each pound having to be pried off. I do love this South Beach way of eating though and find it relatively easy to stick with.. It's not time consuming, no counting, weighing, measuring etc... I love it. I am so determined to get this weight off. I did lose 40 pounds on WW but went into a 7 month plateau before I found SB and started just 22 days ago.. I've lost just about 7 pounds.. hopefully I can lose 5 more before Thanksgiving, and then I'll till have about 45 that I want to lose.
Jenny I am 35 (til next week) and have been on SBD for almost 2 weeks. I have lost 5 pounds so far. I haven't behaved everyday and cheated a few times but for the most part I've done well. The funny thing is when I cheat the food just doesn't taste as good as it use to. I need to exercise and drink more water but I am happy with the results I've had so far. GOOD LUCK!
I am an Atkins convert and have to this date lost a total of thirty pounds, goal weight between 145-150. Met with my doc today, I have startings of Arthritis in my almost 40 year old knees which makes it all the more inperative that I get the last 20 off. My family history is catching up with me.
I just started incorporating SB principles into Weight Watchers, which I've been doing for five (5) (yes, really) years. I lose fine on Weight Watchers so long as I stay motivated -- isn't that always the way it goes? But my motivation waxes and wanes. Lately I've been heavily hitting on the sugar and carbs and realized I needed to do something different to get away from them. So I looked into South Beach.
I'm just finishing phase I (3 more days) and have lost 6 pounds. Since I'm sure a bunch of that is water, I'm not that impressed with myself -- just pleased to be off the carb/sugar roller-coaster.
On Weight Watchers, I started at 274 and now weigh about 188. I've got another 45 or so to go.
You are doing fantastically well.. I too was/am a member of weightwatchers but after 40 pound loss I remained on a plateau for 7 long months. Then my blood sugar went outta whack and I began eating lower carb. I've now been on SB for 3 weeks and 3 days, I believe.. lol lost track of time. I like the fact that I don't feel hungry and that I can eat until I'm full. I hate feeling hungry and that's the way I felt the whole time I was doing WW... I still post on their boards though as I've come to know some of the people well and they are great support.
Jenny, I'm very impressed that you didn't gain back your weight when you hit that plateau. That's the mark of a real winner!
One of the things that I love about the WW approach is that it's flexible enough to experiment with and find out what works for you. This is what has helped me stick with it for 5+ years. SB works just fine on WW, I'm happy to find.
It sounds like you definitely weren't getting enough protein/fat on WW, which is what I did, too. And so we use our points on carbs and get hungrier! I'm glad we've figured that out, though it looks like you figured it out far quicker than I did. Good for you!
