Here is some info about Soy. Remember if you have a thyroid condition, soy is not the best for you.....you should check with your MD and find out if that is a good food choice for you.
The Benefits of Soy
Soy foods are everywhere—in cheese, ice cream, hot dogs, even cereal. Still, a lot of controversy surrounds the health claims of soy advocates, and it’s hard to tell what to believe.
Most scientists agree that eating soy protein benefits the heart. Controlled clinical studies have shown that eating 25 grams of soy protein a day (about four servings) may reduce cholesterol, leading the FDA to allow manufacturers of products containing at least 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving to print this claim on their packaging. While many believe that soy also shows promise for preventing other major diseases, the jury is still out.
You’ll find the most soy protein in soy foods like whole tofu, soymilk, soy flour, textured soy products, tempeh, and miso—all of which fit into the South Beach Diet. Just remember to read the labels and avoid products high in fat and carbohydrates.
