Hope you had a good weekend. Judy, I suspect your Sunday evening was a bit better than your Saturday evening, no?
I had a pretty good weekend, although I've nickled and dimed by flex points bank down to 4 remaining. Since my bank resets on Wednesday, I should be ok. I'll just have to do battle with the salty/sweet cravings that I've been dealing with. I swear PMS started mid-cycle this month. Yuck. Fortunately, the weekend was about as challenge-free as I had planned. We ended up going out to lunch with my MIL yesterday while Ana was at a birthday party, but we went to Applebees, so I was able to enjoy a pretty point-friendly lunch: the blackened chicken salad. Dinner tonight will be the spinach ravioli from Costco, so I should have plenty of regular points to play around with.
hey everyone haven't posted in awhile sorry! I have been working 2 jobs and have had mega stress in mylife...So i have not been working out and doing weight watchers..but i managed to only stay at 172 lbs!!!! But going to get back into things!!
Jennie - good to hear from you - the important thing is not to give up!
Carla - Sorry I didn't get back on last week. As you can imagine, I was pretty tired on Friday (but very happy)! Yes, my Sunday was better than my Saturday although I half expected them to lose on Saturday (as they did in the series with Minn and Boston). Good for you for still having some Flex Points! I blew mine by Saturday afternoon - we mistakenly bought snacks for the game on Sat that weren't bad point-wise if you had a "serving" - I had way more than 1 serving!
I did not weigh in this Saturday. I woke up with swollen glands (yup, sick again) and decided to sleep in. I had a terrible weekend foodwise - I think I was feeling sorry for myself - even to the point of getting into the Halloween candy (which we had bought but Tony hid - of course, while they weren't in plain sight, I found them when I was really looking). Ah well, I guess next year we will have to ignore the sale prices on the candy 4weeks before Halloween and just buy the stuff at the last minute!
My sneak peak was atrocious this morning. Of course, the fact that I had Chinese food last night didn't help. Tony went to the wedding - I really didn't feel well and Chinese food was my "woe is me" food (although I wasn't nearly as bad as I could have been. I hope to feel well enough tomorrow to do a little exercise. I may just bring up some hand weights and do a little upper body whiile I watch TV tonight. I feel like a total slug!
I've decided that I want to try to lose 5 pounds before Thanksgiving - a tough goal but a doable one if I work the program. Today is the start of my week and my goal is to use no more than 2-3 FP's a day if that while getting in all my milks, veggies, etc. I made some sf, ff jello and the choc chip meringue cookies (1 point each) so that should help.
Jennie - Wow, you're one busy woman. Congrats on maintaining at 172 - it means some good habits are sticking with you. I hope things calm down for you soon.
Judy - I'm sorry to hear you weren't feeling well. And I'm sorry to hear you got into the halloween stash. That's probably what I would have done if I were sick. Don't feel like a slug - you need rest to recover. But I know you miss your exercise, so I hope you're able to get some in soon. Sounds like you're well-armed with good snacks. I too am trying to be better about getting in all my fruits and veggies and milks. I'm spending too many points on junk and while it's not having a negative affect on my weight loss now, I know it will catch up to me. I think five pounds by Thanksgiving is very doable. I'll be cheering you on.
I had a good day yesterday and did indeed get in my fruits, veggies, and milks. I hadn't made the spinach ravioli from Costco in awhile and had forgotten what a filling and satisfying meal they make. Tonight it's pork chops. I think I'll sautee them with some peppers and onions. Planning my meals out a week or so in advance is another good habit I've been working on and it's helping. It's helping me build a "library" of family favorites, so figuring out what to make for dinner isn't such a chore. Now if I could just put my mind to exercising.... Ah well, today was my "big" housecleaning day, so I definitely got some movement in.
Carla - way to go on getting in all your milks, veggies and fruits. Yes, those Costco ravioli make a quick and satisfying meal. We still have some in the freezer to eat. It's about time we start eating "out of the freezer" so we can make the room we'll need for Thanksgiving. You are so right about having a "library" of meals to make. I definitely have some favorites but my problem is falling into a rut where we make a few dishes over and over again until we get sick of them. Tonight we had meal #2 from a fabulous recipe that Tony concocted. He browned some bonesless, skinless chicken breasts and sauteed (I measured the olive oil) onions and garlic and added a can of stewed tomatoes. Then he put the chicken breasts back in and cooked it all. We've had it over rice (brown then white) twice since the weekend and luckily we have one more meal. It's pretty low point and he seasoned it just right, yum!
I felt so-so when I woke up this morning but felt quite a bit better this afternoon so when I came home I did a 1/2 step workout. So far so good and I do feel good for having moved. I'm getting my hair trimmed tomorrow after work so I plan on doing a short yoga workout before work. So far so good today on points - of course, there is a game tonight so I'm hoping to stick to my plan for snacking - fruit, veggies with l.f. dip and popcorn (if I need a hand to mouth kind of snack).
Still alive and hanging in there, hormones are hormoning and still PMS'ing. Period is a week overdue. The good news is that I'm sleeping well and not quite as cranky.
Judy - that sounds like a recipe I make. I dredge the chicken in a bit of flour & sage, brown it, sautee the onions and garlic, add the tomatoes (I like the Hunt's Recipe Starters), some white wine, cover and simmer for 20 minutes, then uncover and reduce the liquid. To die for. I do it with either pasta or polenta. Another good one is brown the chicken, sautee some garlic and mushrooms, dump in a can of reduced fat cream of mushroom soup and 1/2 cup of white wine, bung the works in the oven for 45 minutes and enjoy. Hope you're feeling better today.
Carla - we had the raviolis for dinnner too. Great minds must think alike. The meal planning thing works well for me too, although I haven't been good about doing it for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the reminder. It helps a lot with grocery shopping too.
Had a candy fest at work yesterday. I was doing staff flu shots & had a basket of candy for those who got their shot. I think I matched everybody piece for piece. Oh well, not my turn to give shots for the rest of the week, so I should be fine. FIL's continuing care case manager is coming at 10:00 to do a reassessment, so I don't go in to work till she's been. It gave me a chance to get the dogs out to the beach for a good walk this morning. Better go and have some breakfast and shower before she gets here. Have a good day.
Judy - Mmm, that dinner Tony made sounds wonderful. I'll have to keep it in mind. I'm always looking for new ways to fix chicken as we have that a couple of times a week. I bet it would be good with pork chops, too. Lean pork chops is another weekly staple. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and were able to get in a workout. How did snacking go last night? I know it was tense through 8 innings. But what a win. You guys in New York must be loving that Aaron Boone kid, no? He's a cutie too. Speaking of eating out of the freezer, that reminds me. John went to get some ice cream from our deep freeze the other night and he said it was nearly liquid. I have to get down there and clear out the food. Luckily there isn't huge amounts, but still. I really hope it just needs defrosting or whatever, because a new freezer definitely isn't in our budget and I'll miss having one. The freezer is over 50 years old, though, so I'm not hopeful.
Karen - I do a similar dish with the chicken and cream of mushroom soup, but I add milk instead of wine (I'm definitely going to try the wine) and simmer it over the stove. Definitely delicious and quick and easy too. I'm sorry to hear that you're still PMSing. And that you've gone into extra innings with it. That really stinks. I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm glad that you're able to sleep well.
Good news to report from the scale. I lost the 1.2 that I gained last week, plus another 2.8 for a total of 4 pounds. Huge sigh of relief. When I recorded my weight, WW on-line chided me for losing weight too quickly. It said I've lost more than 2 pounds a week three or more times. Well, if the program is sophisticated enough to figure that out, it should be able to average my weight loss over the past 8 weeks and figure out I've lost an average of 1.85 pounds. I think that's a fine pace. And I only left 4 flex points on the table this week, so I think I'm eating enough. I'm probably going to buy the dreaded halloween candy this week. Since the deep freeze is on the fritz and mice have invaded the storage cellar in the basement, I'll have to find someplace out of the way to "hide" it so I don't get into it.
Karen - Sorry about the candy. I guess we've each had our dive into the candy bin - hopefully that's it for both of us. Sorry about the hormones and PMS'ing but I'm glad you are rested. I am verymuch sleep deprived but that should end when the World Series does! Your recipes sound delicious. I don't even think Tony dredged it in flour but that's a great idea. You know, I've never made polenta although I love it. Is is easy? I hope FIL's reassessment went well. Way to go on getting the walk with the dogs in.
Carla - Congratulations on that super loss!!!! You are doing so well. You are my inspiration. I hope I can aquak out a maintain this week but the way it's looking now, I'll probably see a gain. Still, I haven't been to a meeting in a few weeks and no matter what, it's time to face the music so I can get on with losing my 5 "before T-Day" pounds. I had to laugh at the WW online - I think your weight loss pace is great too. Yes, it should be able to figure it out over a longer period but you know how that goes. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your freezer. I shudder to think what we would do if we lost our 50 year old refrigerator in the basement. We depend on it so much.
Yes, it was a tense 8 innings last night and I did do a bit too much snacking. Still, I have 19 FP's left so if I'm careful and keep exercising (I did a 1/2 hour strength workout today after work but before I got my hair cut), I should still have 1/2 or maybe a little leass than 1/2 the FP's left. Yup, we're liking Aaron Boone and I agree, he's a cutie. I think our favorite player this year is Hideki Matsui - he keeps coming through in the clutch and is really a well-rounded player who really understands how to play the game. The rain delay last night played havoc with my sleep - I didn't get to bed until 1:00 am - to say that I was tired today is an understatement - still, there's not much relief in sight until the series is over. Between the game tonight, school tomorrow evening and the game tomorrow night, I should be quite a sight on Friday (if I can keep my eyes open!). I almost wish one game would be rained out so I can get a good night's sleep!
Judy - Ah shucks - thanks for the kind words. I couldn't do it with you wonderful women supporting me. I was thinking last night about how much sleep you must be losing. Thank goodness the weekend is coming up and we gain an extra hour of sleep. You need it! Yep, Matsui is a great asset for the Yanks. I have to say, though, that every single time the annoucers say his name, I automatically think of Matt Suey, who is a former Bear's player from that great Superbowl team. Tough game last night, but it's still early going. Did you manage to stay awake through the extra innings? If I may answer your question about polenta, which is one of my favorite things to eat, and yet I've never made it... The traditional way of making it isn't so much difficult as it is time consuming. It's pretty straight forward - the corn meal and water, but it's a lot of stirring. The absolutely traditional way to make it is in a copper pot which is how my grandmother and my mother always made it. These days you can buy rolls of pre-made polenta in the store. I've never used them, but I hear they're good. Also, you can make it in the microwave - you just have to look for the meal that says it's microwaveable. My mother does that now when she, or we, have a taste for polenta and it comes out fine.
Well, I join the two of you in dipping in the halloween candy. I was in Target yesterday and loaded up. I got into the mini Whoppers, but managed to keep it to two points worth. I really had to talk myself out of eating more, though. Why is it every year I buy the candy I really like? Though I don't think it much matters what I buy - if it's sweet, I'll get into it. Ah well, it's put away in a closet I have no reason to go into, so hopefully it will stay there without any further interference from me. And while I used some flex points last night, I still have 30 left. I have no particular challenges again this weekend, but would like to have a nice bank of flex points just in case.
Have a great evening and Judy, I hope you stay awake in your class. :-)
