Default Boot Camp Challenge Day 47-Challenge Your Attitudes!

Troops, time to get moving! Today I want to talk about some of the negative attitudes that stop us from getting the exercise we need.

Here are some of the excuses (let's be honest...that's all they really are!) that can get in the way of being active:

NO TIME-While you very well may not have a stretch of time you can devote to exercise, you can probably come up with three 10 minute periods to squeeze in some activity. Remember, some is always better than none!

NO EQUIPMENT-You don't need fancy equipment for a good cardio workout...just a decent pair of shoes! And you don't need a gym membership or a ton of weights to get in some resistance training, either! Squats, lunges, push ups, and other exercises use only gravity and your body weight. Household items like soup cans, milk jugs and anything else you can hold can be used as weights.

I'M TOO TIRED-My personal favorite! The truth is exercise will increase your energy level. You will sleep better which will also help with low energy. Start small and you'll see the difference quickly!

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO-There are so many options when it comes to fitness that it is easy to get confused. It doesn't have to be fancy to be effective. Walking is a great exercise that requires no training and no experience! If you want to delve into more complicated forms of exercise a personal trainer may be the way to go!

I HAVE A BAD BACK- A bad back is a serious issue and nothing to take lightly. But you can allieviate a lot of back pain by getting in shape and getting strong. Of course you need to check this out with your doctor before starting!

I'll have more tomorrow! In the meantime I would like to hear your favorite excuses for NOT exercising. And if you DO exercise, why? What does being active do for YOU?

Group Activity for Week of 10/12-580 minutes

Let's get moving, troops! I know those minutes are out there just waiting to be reported!

Yesterday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the bowflex... the biggest thing that gets in the way of my working out is procrastination. I don't feel like doing it now, I'll wait until later. I just ate, I'll wait a little longer. I'll do it after the baby goes to bed. Okay, after I check my email. Whoops, now it's too late to work out, I guess I better go to bed and try again tomorrow. :-D On the days I go out to my mom's house to work out, it's like I look for excuses not to go. It's raining, I hate driving in the rain. I need to go grocery shopping, I'm too tired, my knee hurts today, I just took a shower and don't want to have to take another one in 2 hours, blah blah blah. But my mom is a good motivator, and so is hubby, and they remind me of how crappy I'll feel if I don't work out and make sure I get off my butt. And once I start working out, I feel really good, and wonder why I even tried to get out of it in the first place!

Default Hey There

O.K. girls,I need some help. I have been on SBD for a month. I have only been off tract once. My son had a B/D. We bought surgar free cake and FF icecream. I had one piece. I have only lost 6 lbs and have not added any carbs but some fruit and hardly any of that. I exercise. Walking is my thing. Of course I walk one day and lately have to take off the next day as I have so much pain from Osteoarthritis. One more thing. I don't really have a lot more to lose. 8-10 lbs.I lost 57lbs with WW four years ago before I decided I needed a kick to get it going again. I am 70 years old. Any suggestions will help. I am aware that meds. play a big part in weight loss.I am getting disappointed at this point.....Joanne

Lizzie back again. Walked 20min this a.m. 30 min at Curves, and walked 25 minutes tonight. I have to make up for my lazy weekend.

Joanne: It is much harder to lose when you only have a few lbs to go. I have experienced the same thing. And I know that meds also can create a problem. But just stick with it, and don't get discouraged. it will come off very slow. I'm doing phase 2 but sort of phase1 also. Kind of back and forth a bit. And I hate to say this but when one is over '39' like you and I both are, it is also harder to lose as our metabolism is not as revved up as it once was. Had a check up with the Dr. today and my blood work is very good all the levels like cholesterol, tryglycerides, etc right where they should be. So this diet pays off in other ways as well.

I have some arthritis in my ankle and back, but find that after I walk a bit, the stiffness goes. I can't take any meds like Vioxx, as they do bad things to me. I'm one of those wierd people that has a problem with a lot of meds. And maybe that is not all bad.

Hang in there. Lizzie

Default Hey There

Lizzie- Thanks! The scale was down a bit this A.M. I don't know if it is because I am in a IBS flare or if it is true. I don't take any meds for Thr arthritis either. I can't begin to tell you how many I have been on. My stomach is wrecked. I don't take anything except some Darvocet when the pain is really bad and not as much as the Dr. tells me to. Being a retired nurse ,I am not prone to take anything I can do without.I know that the pain will let up after a few blocks of walking. I am reluctant to cause more inflamation by going when it is hurting. I am sticking with the diet. Like you I have started adding some carbs. (just fruit) I have had a banana a couple times. I am on meds that require the potassium. Not every day and didn't add it till the 3rd week. Cramps in the legs said I better. Oh! to be 39 again!
Now you have heard the down side today. I am looking for the upside...Have a great day everybody...Joanne
