And not a drop to drink? Let's hope not!
Group Activity for Week of 9/28-2568! We got a major shot in the arm from Kathy, who walked 15 MILES on Saturday! Way to go, Nikkiloo!
Good morning, troops!

Are you ready to launch our all out attack on our worst problem areas? I am, so let's do it!
I am going to share a few facts I found out about water. I tried to make sure these were medically proven facts and not just anecdotal tidbits, but that is tough to do!
The human body is composed of approximately 55-75% by volume, and 60% by weight!
The body needs water to...
...carry nutrients and oxygen to the cells.
...remove toxins and other waste
...aid digestion
...regulate body temp
...cushion and protect joins and organs
...metabolize fat
So how much is enough? Medically speaking most doctors say that you only need about 1 quart a day to replace what you lose through breathing, perspiration, and urination. True dehydration as defined by doctors doesn't happen unless you are consistantly drinking less than 700-800ml (about 3 cups/24 oz) of fluid.
What about the recommendation that we drink at least 64 ounces a day? No one seems to know where this comes from! But there do seem to be plenty of reliable sources that support this general guideline for water consumption. Several sites mentioned adding an additional 8 ounces for every 25 pounds of extra weight you carry! Another guideline I found was to drink 1/2 oz of water for every pound of body weight, and 3/4 oz for every pound if very active!
How about other fluids? For the most part other fluids do count towards your daily water intake, as they all do contain water. Caffeinated beverages tend to be a diuretic, and some say not to include them. The problem with most other drinks is that they contain sugar and or other substances which your body may NOT need.
So what's the real story? I suspect the jury is still out on this particular issue. Prevention recommends sticking to the 8-8 ounce glasses rule...here is the article that explains their stance:

So, what are your thoughts? Does this change your attitude about how much water you should be drinking? If you drink lots of water now but didn't before, how has this affected you? What anecdotal evidence have you heard about the benefits of drinking water?
