Default Boot Camp Challenge Day 39-Water, Water Everywhere!

And not a drop to drink? Let's hope not!

Group Activity for Week of 9/28-2568! We got a major shot in the arm from Kathy, who walked 15 MILES on Saturday! Way to go, Nikkiloo!

Good morning, troops! Are you ready to launch our all out attack on our worst problem areas? I am, so let's do it!

I am going to share a few facts I found out about water. I tried to make sure these were medically proven facts and not just anecdotal tidbits, but that is tough to do!

The human body is composed of approximately 55-75% by volume, and 60% by weight!

The body needs water to...

...carry nutrients and oxygen to the cells.
...remove toxins and other waste
...aid digestion
...regulate body temp
...cushion and protect joins and organs
...metabolize fat

So how much is enough? Medically speaking most doctors say that you only need about 1 quart a day to replace what you lose through breathing, perspiration, and urination. True dehydration as defined by doctors doesn't happen unless you are consistantly drinking less than 700-800ml (about 3 cups/24 oz) of fluid.

What about the recommendation that we drink at least 64 ounces a day? No one seems to know where this comes from! But there do seem to be plenty of reliable sources that support this general guideline for water consumption. Several sites mentioned adding an additional 8 ounces for every 25 pounds of extra weight you carry! Another guideline I found was to drink 1/2 oz of water for every pound of body weight, and 3/4 oz for every pound if very active!

How about other fluids? For the most part other fluids do count towards your daily water intake, as they all do contain water. Caffeinated beverages tend to be a diuretic, and some say not to include them. The problem with most other drinks is that they contain sugar and or other substances which your body may NOT need.

So what's the real story? I suspect the jury is still out on this particular issue. Prevention recommends sticking to the 8-8 ounce glasses rule...here is the article that explains their stance:

http://205.147.231.141/cda/feature20...0,945,00.html?

So, what are your thoughts? Does this change your attitude about how much water you should be drinking? If you drink lots of water now but didn't before, how has this affected you? What anecdotal evidence have you heard about the benefits of drinking water?

Ellis-I did love breastfeeding! I also loved the convenience of it...no midnight bottles to warm! All my kids have been little piggies especially the two boys (10lb, 9 oz and 10lb, 3 oz)

sflake-I just bet you are doing a happy dance Congrats on your milestone!

leslie-good work on all your exercise this week...I bet it is already paying off!

Sharon-good goal with the water...no matter what anyone says!

Private Lizzie- hey, aren't you up for promotion soon? Before you know it you will be General Lizzie!

Kathy-you are hearby awarded the "Boot Camp Badge of Courage and Committment" for your outstanding performance in completing a 15 MILE WALK! We are all so proud of you! Take the day off...heck, take a couple of days off...you've earned it!

Have a great day, recruits!

Oh yeah, we need a goal for the week! Let's up the stakes just a bit....let's go for 2300 minutes of activity!

Thanks for the "Badge of Courage" ... the company I work for sponsors the walk ... this was the third annual ... missed the first year but walked the last two. It's a beautiful route along the ocean ... the bad thing is that they post the miles all along the route ... just when you feel you've done 12 miles you see the sign saying "Mile #7" ... yikes!!!

All of us should know by now what a difference drinking lots of water makes as far as our weight loss goes. I think the only reason that I drink enough water is because of the exercising I do ... during the day I drink water instead of anything else with my lunch/snacks but in the evening after the gym I usually don't have water with dinner (usually a cup of decaf) ... I'll need to work on that.

I'm going to go take a nap ... have a good evening everyone !!!

I might settle for Pvt. 1st class one of these days. but I don't think I'm ready for more of a promotion as yet.

I got nearly 62oz of water yesterday, but now I am behind today. My biggest problem is that with that much water, I have to get up at night more than once.

Today is my day off from exercise. We just have to have a day of rest.

'See' you tomorrow. Lizzie

Hope everyone is having a great weekend on the beach!

I did 40 minutes on the elliptical x-trainer this morning and about 15 minutes of weights. I am on my way out for another 35 minutes of brisk walking to curb my guilt. I had a couple of my husband's chicken wings and a few pieces of fried zucchini during the games today. Yikes! Talk about off-program! I don't know if I'll be doing that again soon... my belly really doesn't like all of that grease anymore. Ick.

Franny, I "hear" my body now when it's dehydrated. Okay, I don't always LISTEN, but I hear it. Particularly in the morning. My body is wailing for water!
I drank quite a bit of water today. Trying to get back up to 6-8 glasses a day.

I'm hoping to get to the gym three times this week. I've been slacking off lately...

Good going with all the exercise, girls!!

Good morning ladies. Computer was on the blink the last couple of days. Back up and running...which is also my slogan after I drink a ton of water. Seems as though I live in the bathroom. Today my goal is to get over the 64 oz at least by 8oz.

In terms of working out, I am going to the gym today and will do 30 min. on the tread mill and 30 min of weights.

Franny-thanks so much for the great information you post here. I really love to read all of the information. Let's me know I am doing something right for my body.
