Default Outdoor workouts vs gym — does sunshine actually make you push harder?

Curious what everyone thinks about this one. I've been switching between gym sessions and outdoor workouts (park circuits, hill sprints, bodyweight routines on the deck) for the last couple of months and I genuinely feel like I push harder when I'm outside in the sun. Not just the vitamin D angle — there's something about fresh air, natural light and open space that makes the same workout feel less like a chore and more like play.

A few things I've noticed:
- My heart rate stays lower at the same effort level outdoors
- I'm way more consistent with morning sessions when they're outside
- Post-workout mood is noticeably better

On the flip side, gym workouts definitely win on:
- Progressive overload with heavy weights
- No weather excuses
- Dedicated equipment for isolation work

So I'm curious — does anyone else feel like outdoor training affects your motivation and intensity differently? Is it purely psychological or is there something real going on with exposure to sunlight and fresh air?

Also wondering if anyone has built a hybrid routine that takes advantage of both. I'm thinking strength 3x/week in the gym and cardio/mobility outside whenever the weather cooperates.

Quick follow-up on my own thread since a few weeks have passed. I ended up building out my backyard a bit — cleared a corner, laid rubber tiles, mounted a pull-up bar into some 4x4 posts. Nothing fancy but it works. The thing that really made it usable was adding simple lighting and a fan for the evenings. Once I could train after work without being eaten alive by mosquitos or squinting at the bar, the consistency clicked into place. I also notice that I have been more consistent in the 3 weeks since building this than in the previous 6 months of saying maybe I will hit the gym tonight. Sunshine plus an easy walk out the back door really does change the math on actually showing up.
