Post Question about exercising

I was just curious what kind of exercising everybody is doing....if any. The reason why I'm asking is because a couple of weeks ago I was getting up at 5 am and then doing a 40 minute video then getting ready for work. Once I got to work I went walking for about 50 minutes (which we estimated to be almost 2 miles). So this week I decided that I'll walk instead and when I can't walk, I'll do my video workouts.

Well now I'm at a standstill and not losing anything. But gained 3 lbs! It's so frustrating. I don't know if I should start getting up early again and working out or not. I thought walking would help, but it seems to have slowed things down quite a bit. I also started Phase 2. And for lunches I am having a low fat turkey or ham sandwich on low carb bread with lettuce and cheese and nothing else. And for a snack I'll eat either celery with a lil bit of low fat peanut butter or my sugar free jell-o

I would really love to lose some weight before going to FL in December...but I know that'll be pushin it.

Any suggestions or anything would be gratefully appreciated

Hey Motts,

You might want to try all natural peanut butter for those snacks...instead of low-fat. I just read in the SB"bible" that the low-fat" option isn't really a good option for South Beach Dieters since the way they make it "low-fat" is by adding a lot of bad carbs.

Also, since you are not losing at all (gaining 3 lbs???) then perhaps you have too many carbs or added them back in too quickly ( that poor, lonely sandwich...) Maybe try a salad with the turkey and ham... with some low-fat cheese (LOW-FAT IS OK FOR DAIRY PRODUCTS ONLY)or with sliced hard boiled eggs for lunches this week and see what happens if you cut out the bread and switch the peanut butter...

I'm sure the walking is great and doesn't have anything to do with the weight gain... Are you drinking lots of water and diet beverages? I usually forget to drink a lot of water. I also heard (don't know if it's true) that a lot of aspertame (ie: crystal light and diet sodas) can stall a weight loss also, so try to stick to flavored seltzer, water and just a little of the other diet drinks.

Also, where in Fl are you going in December?

As for me, I take a class called "Kardio-Kickboxing" usually 2 -3 times per week at a taekwondo studio and run by the "Master!" I can't really keep up with the whole class (100 sit-ups, etc!!!) but I keep up with the vigorous movement for the whole 45 - 60 min!!! I think it's a success if they don't have to call the rescue squad! Boy, do I sleep well on those nights! Sometimes I miss a class or two and then it's like starting all over again!

Let me know what happens! I'm shooting for a major difference in MY tummy by next month at this time! I'm sure it's too soon and unreasonable, but my 40th birthday is at the end of October and I am tired of people asking me when I'm due!!! Something new to wear in a smaller size would be nice! Hey, even something old to wear in a smaller size would be nice!!! In fact, now that I think of it... not having to wear anything because I am smaller... better than not having anything to wear...never mind...gross! good luck and keep us posted on progress!!!

Motts, how about adding a little weight workout to your cardio workout? You could alternate days. Maybe you need to build some muscle to burn more fat...

I agree with Ellis ... you probably could add in a weight workout a few times a week. I'm an exercise fanatic ... 5 days a week I walk for 45 minutes before work, 4 days a week I go to the gym doing 45 minutes of cardio and 20-30 minutes of weights. But I was doing that pre SBD so the weight I've lost so far is food, not exercise related.

I'm on phase II and loosing about 2 lbs every other week (I only weigh 2x a month) but don't eat ANY bread at all, my carbs added in so far have only been fruit, Uncle Sams cereal and an occasional sweet potatoe ... (but I do eat fruit just about every day) ...

I'm also pretty sure that the video burns a lot more calories than walking ... your body gets used to doing the same thing pretty quickly so the walking is less effective after a while, but keep in mind that anything you will keep on doing is the best...
