Well, hubby and I have now been on SBD for 18 days as of today. We are feeling (and getting) thinner every day! Here's the problem: I have "slipped up" a few times and experienced a "snack attack" It is mostly LATE AT NIGHT, and mostly peanuts and /or semisweet choco chips. The peanuts are the most tempting. I also found myself irresistibly drawn to Cheerios with milk and sugar sub. Anyone have any tricks for avoiding the "munchies"late at night? I have NO willpower once I start eating like that! The first few days of Phase 1 were actually easier than what I am experiencing now on Phase 2! On a happier note: Hubby and I find our pants are gettin' baggy and threatening to fall down! As we have abroken scale, I havw no idea how much actual weight we have lost so far, but I am measuring my waist at almost 2 inches smaller! YAAAAYYY!!!! We have "The Greek Festival" coming up in our city next week, and I am pre planning my eating for that!!! Hope we don't pig out when we get there. CALLING ALL PIGGIES~LET ME HEAR FROM YA IF YOU ARE ALSO HAVING IRRESISTABLE URGES TO EAT FORBIDDEN FOODS, OR JSUT TRYING NOT TO OVEREAT THE ALLOWED ONES. I need moral support! I need to know I am not alon e in my weakness BLESSINGS!
OINK! Piggy Leslie reporting. I definitely have been finding that if I do not eat enough during the day, I am hungry at night. Lately I have been trying like heck to have LOTS of veggies with dinner and the mocha ricotta for dessert and that does the trick. I also found that you can't skimp on cheap ricotta and vanilla substitute! I went out and got good light ricotta and pure vanilla extract and splenda and put it in the blender. Verrrrry yummy, sweet and satisfying! I like it even better the second day!
Good luck with conquering your cravings. Greek food festival... ugh! I'd be in for it! spanikopita is one of my favorites!
Ballerina, you're definitely not alone! Personally, what I need to do is to not have foods in the house that I can't control myself around, OP foods as well as non-OP foods. I don't know if that's an option for you or not, as I don't know who all lives in your house....I'm lucky since I live alone.
Ask yourself if you're eating because you're hungry, or because you're bored and looking for something to do. If you're hungry, make sure you're eating enough at meals, and have "safe" OP foods on hand for snacks. I find that protein snacks fill me up quickly. If you're bored, try to find something else to do to keep your hands/mind busy. Or is it just a habit? It takes concentration and time to break old habits, but it can definitely be done.
I used to be a big evening snacker (actually, grazer! I could eat from the time I got home from work until I went to bed.) I've found that eating a nice large dinner with lots of veggies and protein really fills me up and decreases the chances that I'll be hungry and digging in the refrigerator later for something to eat. If I am hungry in the evening, I'll have a little ricotta dessert, or laughing cow cheese on celery, or an apple with a little peanut butter, or a hard boiled egg, or sf jello or popsicles. A lot of my snacking in my old life was due to not eating well at mealtime and my body was screaming for some nutrients, and part of it was habit. Both of these can be overcome, and I'm living proof!!
I'm sure the other chicks will have some good suggestions for you too...this is what works for me!
Good advice Imaxin and 2dog, for me snacking in the evening was definitely a habit. Not that the snacking part was particularly bad, but the choices I made were. If I had something sweet that it had to be followed by something salty, so I was doing double duty on the bad stuff. Now it's the ricotta creme or a SF fudgesicle. I don't think I will tire of those for quite some time!
Ballerinasmom, try to drink more water in the evening to help you along. When I'm still a little hungry before bed I just brush my teeth and hit the sheets a little early!
Thanks fellow "Chicks"! Yes, I am also a night time eater. In fact, I am a night owl, period. It's soooo easy to run amok in the kitchen when everyone else is snoozing and can't blow the whistle on ya! It isn't practical for me to totally eliminate all forbidden foods from my house, as I have 2 dancers underfoot who burn calories like clockwork! Both of these girls are skinny as a rail! We haveall begun to eat better, however, since Dave and I started the SBD. My youngest loves raw veggies, fruits ands nuts, and I have a heck of a time keeping them for us dieters! My kids learned early on how to eat so they could stay fueled to dance a 4 hour stretch, and yet stay slender and healthy. Mom and Dad, on the other hand, just snacked on "whatever". That's what got us into this chubby mess! we are both short people, and we really can't carry any weight. I am aiming for 110 lbs. again at 5' 2" and with tiny bones. I started out before the SBD at 157! As to Ricotta cream dessert, I am married to a Sicilian and we know all about Italian cheese! I add fresh strawberries, sliced, a squeeze of lemon juice, sugar sub, and real vanilla extract. Mix it all up, and pop into the freezer till very cold. Tastes just like cheesecake!!!! I haven't actually frozen this, but it might work. It's sinfully good I am starting my ballet warmups again, and adding Pilates, so I may get my old dancer's body back one day!!! Ciao!
ok... i'm suffering the same problems...
I tried having my dessert late and that was a little help, but eating late isn't too good either (but it's better than eating the wrong stuff) so here is my new advice...i hope we don't need to censor it! It's making me laugh out loud just to type it!!! Sometimes we eat in our attempt to meet other needs... so instead of a snack, try grabbing your DH and have a... um...uh... late night "personal work out session" Better than a snack and ya might burn a few calories too! Good luck! If you have other solutions, let me know -- please... my DH is not a willing participant these days... so I need other ideas! (too much info., sorry)
J&L - you have me cracking up over here! I think that is a great idea, although I tend to be even hungrier after. I do agree, though, sometimes what your body/mind needs is a diversion rather than food.
