Default Boot Camp Physical Fitness-Day 24

Group Activity for Week of 9/14-1769 Minutes! Whooo Hoooo! We did it...with a day still left in the week!

Ruth-if you can get your doggies to do WATP, let me know...our Emma needs to lose a few!

Sharon..."clench" away, dear! I hope your little exercise session at the computer counts...I do stuff like that all the time...lunges in the kitchen, squats in the bathroom while brushing my teeth...I must look like a complete idiot! :

Private Harmony! Welcome to boot camp! We are here to learn. We are here to work hard. We are here to have a blast! Just stick with your goals about exercising...as you said, just because you missed a day it doesn't undo all the good things you are doing for your body!

Lavender...WTG girl! You'll be up over 20 minutes in no time at all!

Ellis-If you grocery shopped like me you'd have a lot more than that! I forget so many things I run around like a chicken with my head cut off. Drive me crazy, but then again, I suppose it gets a little activity into my day, heh?

Lizzie-how'd that line dancing go? I added your activity from yesterday (or the day before...whenever that was!) so not to worry!

Oh my...Tammy Faye! She was on the TODAY show....Still looks exactly the same! How does she DO that to her eyes? Not that I want to emulate her look, but I'm dying to know! House paint?

Kathy, come back when you can stay and visit! Just giving you a hard time. I know you have a very busy schedule...great job fitting all that activity in!

Now, on the the short topic of the day. All week long I have been struck by the irony of modern fitness. I mean, we rely on treadmills, elliptical machines, gyms, and other equipment to get our exercise. We use heart rate monitors, VCR's, Walkmen, radios, videos, and computer tracking programs to get into shape. We post on computer message boards, search the net for information, order books about health over the internet, and create cyber-journals to track our progress.

My point? I think it is a hoot that the very cause of our collective weight problem is also part of the solution! We, as citizens of developed countries, are overweight because we are increasingly sedentary. Why? Because technology has taken away the manual labor. But our bodies still need it! So...we create our own manual labor in the form of exercise! And how do we do that? Frequently by using the selfsame technology that got us into this predicament to begin with!

I am not advocating that we all throw away our computers and move into the mountains to chop wood! Just remarking on the irony of the whole thing. Technology can be our friend, right?

Okay, the challenge for the weekend is this: Concentrate on the trinity...food, water, exercise. Spend a bit of time thinking about your program and see if it is working for you. If it is, great. If not, time to make some changes. Don't get stuck in an ineffective routine just because it feels safe. I will be starting a new weight lifting routine this week as I need to step up my efforts to build some muscle. I'll keep you all posted!

Squadron, ten hut! Have a great day! Dismissed!

Wow, Sarge!!!!
You are so right about technology adding to our sedentary

Lifestyle. So what am I doing??? Sitting here at the computer But not for long. We're going to a street
festival in a little town not far from here. Taking our grandaughter
to spend the day walking around and seeing the sights.

I'm finding it easier to say no to things I used to enjoy
that were unhealthy for me. So my goal for the day will be to
take my water with me, walk a lot , and eat healthy OP foods.

Talk later......have a great Saturday on the Beach, everyone!

On my way to the gym so I'll check in again later to post my times ...

I change my exercise program every month ... one month I lift heavy weights for a few reps, the next month a lift lighter weights for more reps and I try to switch my cardio monthly too, with the treadmill one month I'll walk at an incline, the next month I run and so on; at the gym I try to switch the stairmaster with the elliptical trainer and bike or the elliptical trainer with arms ...

Have to concentrate more on the water on the weekends and we usually go out to eat on Saturdays (but I always get chicken so it's not too bad) ...

Bye for now!!!

Pvt. Lizzie reporting:

We are having a rainy afternoon, so no more exercise for me. Did my 30 minutes at Curves this A.m. But since we are having guests for dinner, I will be getting plenty of exercise of one sort or another.

The line dancing is fun. And a good aerobic workout. Started a new number lst night and it was so fast, I just stood and watched. Most everyone got all confused and we laughed a lot. Of course, our teacher made us all look like a bunch of clutzes. : Some of our group go and dance at nursing homes now and again The patients seem to enjoy it.

I promise to keep focused on the trinity, as well as some exercise.

Have a good day all you recruits. Lizzie

You're right! I went to the Library and borrowed 4 exercise tapes, one was WATP 1 mile walk, so I got in 20 minutes today! And it made me sweat, too! Now, if I could just get my appetite to behave . . .

I agree with the irony of technology.

Group Activity for Week of 9/14-2174 minutes! We Rock!

You guys put me to shame today! I managed 35 min on the treadmill at work, but that is it! I'm not complaining...that is 35 minutes more than I used to get!

Sharon, I hope the street festival was a blast! I love that kind of stuff....all the sights, sounds, and smells!

Kathy-Now I know who to go to when I need advice about my new lifting routine! I really want to get STRONG!

sflake-I sure hope you start feeling better soon! Nothing worse than feeling sick when there is nothing good on TV to veg out to!

Lizzie-Maybe someday I'll give line dancing or something similar a try...I'm not the most coordinated person so I hesitate to do anything that requires steps or choreography!

lmaxin-You ROCK girl! WTG with the exercise! Have you been working out long?

Ruth-Hope you and the girls had a nice walk. How's it going teaching them the WATP tapes?

Lavender-How did you like the WATP tape? If you decide to buy check out Amazon-in the "new & used" section I got a great deal on a new set. Another option is eBay.

Today was tiring, but a lot of fun. It was an absolute blast watching 7 & 8 year olds play soccer on a full sized field! My son had 5 saves! He was "booting it" like a pro...they even announced his name several times! Does a mom good to see a child be so athletic and active!

Tomorrow I start my new weight lifting routine. I have been lifting, but I want to increase my ability and strength...so found a new routine. I need to dig the weight bench out of the garage and install it in my "gym!" So if I can't lift my arms to type you'll all know why!
I think we decided to spend a week on each aspect of the trinity, right? So this week is either food or water. Hmmmmm. Not sure what we should tackle. Food has been a frustration for me lately, but I'm not drinking my water, either! I'm off to look for some inspiration!
