Default Day one - Question about not enough calories???

My husband, my daughter and I all started the South Beach Diet today..... well hubby and daughter more on a modifed SB.... Hubby had a whole wheat bbq chicken sandwich today which I didnt think was too bad for him since it was whole wheat...kinda like phase II.....

Anyway, I got to 9pm and realized that i had only eaten about 750 calories today.... and havent been hungry.... Has anyone else had this problem????

I ended up getting some pb and celery and a glass of milk(which I know isnt really a phase I thing but was trying to come up with calories to get over 1000)...

Hubby ended up only having 1238 calories and he was starving all day.... I know he needs to get bumped up to about 2000 calories a day....

Anyone else been caught with not enough calories???? I am not really planning on counting calories but need to make sure I dont throw myself into starvation mode.....

Well, I'm making the transition from Atkins to South Beach (I just got my book today, so the SBD officially starts tomorrow) but I've been on the Atkins induction phase since the end of July. I'm so sick of eating all the same stuff, things I don't particularly like anyway, that I am frequently under 1500 calories. I used to think that less calories = better, but I've discovered that only goes so far. I'm hoping the SBD will give me more options, I know there are lots of ideas in the book, plus I love veggies and I don't have to limit them anymore. Try snacking on some sugar free jello, or veggies, if you like them. Myself, I'm getting some of those sugar free fudgesicles! Mmmmmmm....

Not only are there more options on South Beach it is healthier for your body.... my doctor actually recommended it to me.....

I got on the scale this morning and had lost 2#s... which was cool to see but would like to slow things down a bit.... I also know that most of it was water weight...... but I will take it....

Off to eat some breakfast.... stomach saying feed me this morning.

Good Luck!

I think you guys are doing well

I've been doing SBD for about one month and have lost nearly 10 pounds

My main problem has been motivation - it is so motivating in the beginning because you are never hungry - remember how motivated you are right now, because there may be a day or two in the next few weeks or so where it may get difficult

Great Work - and remember the feeling you have right now!!

Angel:

When I first started, it WAS easy to get through several hours and not be hungry. I think our body is so surprised by the lack of blood sugar highs and lows, it's in shock But trust me, after a few days and/or weeks, when the body begins to use the stored fat, you will definitely have some hunger.

My experience has been that I can get through the day with low calories, but by evening time, I'm VERY hungry. So beware! However, that is MY experience. Others may tell you something different.

That's true, I get hungrier as the day goes on. I have to practically force myself to eat breakfast, but by suppertime I'm ravenous. There was just no way for me while on Atkins to get enough calories without going over carbs, since I love veggies and am not a big fan of meat and eggs.

Thanks for the replies ladies....

I "fell off the wagon" - ok I "jumped off the wagon" last night.... went to see the play Les Miserables and on the way we stopped at this great Authenic Italian Resturant.... It was wonderful.... I ate and I didnt feel guilty. It was a special occassion and I feel like I can do that occassionally.

Although on day 3 was probably not the greatest.... oh well

So I am going to start it over today.... I dont know if I am really fully on Phase 1 anyway.... saw someone say they were on Phase 1.5.... thats me becuase I still have a glass of milk a day.

The funny thing about this is while I havent been hungry at all my hubby has been starving... I am starting to think it is a mental thing for him.......

Hope all is well for everyone.... off to work!
