Default New here but an old timer at this game.

Good Morning! I am a new member but this is an old journey for me. I had been overweight since I was about 8 and had gained and lost a number of times as an adult but never reached Onederland until about 6 years ago. The only WOE that ever worked for me was low carb and I used Dr Atkins 2003 program to get there, with additional restrictions due to candida. I also exercised daily for at least an hour. I got down to 183 and had to fly home due to a family emergency. Over the next 2 months I spent days in ICU with my dad, and nights taking care of mom (dementia and stage 4 cancer). Needless to say I totally lost focus on my needs and regained about 30 pounds. Some other huge life changes followed (forced retirement and an international move home for us) and I settled into a pretty glum state for the next few years with little motivation. Last fall I was the highest I had been in ten years. After attending an Intro session for information on bariatric surgery I decided that wasnt for me and I was going to do this again, even though I knew how hard it would be. I started at the end of October. Doing an unprocessed food plan, DANDR with candida modifications (i.e. further restrictions) and lowering my calorie intake a bit from last time (between 1400 and 1650 daily). I also do a 36 hour fast once a month. So far, I am down 43 pounds and am currently just over 10 pounds from Onederland. I am here because I like the vibe and my old sites just arent trafficked any more. (I am literally the only one still posting on my original "home" site) Excited to see folks who are in for the long haul, not all newbies with a zillion questions, and posting regularly so I am part of a like minded community once again. - Jill

Congrats for finding a path for yourself that's working.

Hello Jersey Girl!
thank you for posting on my intro. i think ts really important to stay in contact with the people who come in about the same time as you. not only am i new to dieting, but social media sites as well. i feel a real emotional attachment to the people who reach out to me, especially when our stories share so many similarities. i take care of my parents as well, father has dementia, diabetes, heart issues and is 73. then the Covid. Mom and dad still need to go to appointments, see the grandkids and all that. i can understand the overwhelming feelings. its so hard, and being self-sacrificing we tend to neglect ourselves, our plans take a back seat.
FYI, i think you are AMAZING, 43 lbs is so good, try to show yourself the empathy you show others and celebrate the small things! Easy to say, harder to do.
