Unhappy Elmer Fudd Reborn

I know yesterday was the day to vent (Thanks, Grandma Marcie) but I am in desperate need of letting off a little steam. If I don't I am likely to have one great big pity party!

I went to the orthodontist today, and instead of just putting in a new wire he put in this contraption that stops my top teeth from covering my bottom teeth. This is so they can finally put braces on the bottom teeth. So this means I can't eat right! My molars don't touch each other AT ALL! Plus I sound just like ELMER FUDD!

AFTER he did this orthodontist told me to eat PASTA, RICE, and MASHED POTATOES until my bite adjusts and I can chew! I slurped down scrambled eggs this morning, but that will get real old, real quick.

And I am not looking forward to going to work and trying to talk on the police radio or answer 9-1-1 calls sounding like this!

So I am feeling pretty sorry for myself right this moment. And that makes me feel pretty petty...it is so NOT A BIG DEAL in the scheme of things, right? Just a temporary set back...I just need to adjust my attitude and figure out what to eat!

Any good ideas? So far I have come up with scrambed eggs and ricotta deserts. Not sure how long I can live on those!

Thanks for letting me vent (like you had a choice!)

Franny~~~I know that right now it feels strange in your mouth but you will get used to it very soon . You may sound funny on the radio for a few nights though, but I'm sure that they will understand exactly what you are saying. Just think~~It won't be long and you will not only have a gorgeous smile but your bite will be perfect, too.

Food-wise I'm thinking lots of "cauliflower mashed potatoes" (I like to add spinach and cheese to mine for more vitamin intake), sweet potatoes, protein drinks, oatmeal, cottage cheese, ricotta.... Having trouble with suggestions for meat/chicken/fish, sorry.

hang in there, girl. :

Aw, Franny......

I wish I could send you a bunch of balloons right now to cheer you!

I know that has to be a difficult thing to get used to. But I'll bet that in a day or two you will be doing much better.

As far as foods go......how about sugar free jello(that 's the dessert of choice for me nowadays) , or Yogurt. Also, if you have a food processor, you could put some interesting veggie concoctions in there. Well, it's a suggestion, anyway!

I'm sending you good vibes Hey, I just had a thought...you'll probably lose some weight with that contraption in your mouth!!

Think good thoughts........~Sharon

Thanks, guys. I am feeling, if not sounding, better. It just seemed that I was so on track for once, and along comes this bump in the road. But I guess that is really what live's about, huh?

I had a smoothie made with sugarfree yogurt, tofu and frozen unsweetened peach slices before work. It wasn't too bad. First yogurt or fruit I have had in ages! I almost bought a protein supplement to either toss in smoothies or one of those protein drinks but there were so many to choose from I just gave up.

I told the guys during roll call (the 15 minutes before shift) to go ahead, have their fun and laugh, 'cuz after the shift started there would be to pay if they laughed at me. I don't think they took me very seriously, but it broke the ice at least!

I'll survive...I always do! My DH is feeling pretty sorry for me right now...wonder if I can get any sympathy points out of this?

Franny,

Get as much as you can out of it from the hubby.

I can tell you that you cannot sound as bad as some of the dispatchers we have...and theirs is NORMAL voice. One guy was called mumbles and with the system we had in the old station we would come down to the apparatus floor(4 floors in the building) and from the DC to the guys driving we would all be saying 'where was that??" and get different answers.

As for the teeth, I KNOW what you are going through. I close today at 11am on my refinance. Just so I can do mine and my daughters teeth. Gotta love having sucky insurance!!!!
Then I have a dentist appointment at noon. another thousand bucks out of my pocket!!!

Oh, Franny. What a nasty old orthodondist. I hope he's not charging you for that!
I went through the braces thing. YEARS ago. I suppose if you're looking for something to be grateful for (slim pickings, huh?), you could be grateful that you're not a teenager with raging hormones hoping for a date for the prom. shudder. (that wasn't me... just an ugly example)
Hugs, sweetie... I hope this stage doesn't last long. You're still beautiful. (aha! Something ELSE to be grateful for! You don't LOOK like Elmer Fudd!!)

Ladyonfire....oh boy...I hope I don't sound that bad! No one has asked me to repeat myself, so I guess that is a good sign? I am trying really hard to AN NUN CI ATE clearly, but it only sounds worse to me! Maybe I should mumble a bit...it seens cover the lisp.

Ellis, you are so right...it could be so much worse in so many ways...I could be 14, with acne and a bad self image! Been there, done that, don't wanna go back!

I'm getting in the swing of this, thinking about what I can eat...I won't starve, that's for sure!

This only took me a few HOURS to get posted! Busy night at work...my mouth is tired!

Hi Franny,

I'm a little late in reding and responding to your Elmer Fudd post - by now you're probably past Elmer and on to Betty Boop... anyhoo, don't forget good old tuna fish - takes very little chomping! Also, tomatoes, mushrooms eggplant are all appropriately soft and easy to consume.

Hope you don't have to wear that device for a long time - but we are amazing creatures and can adapt to almost anything!

Thanks for all those positive posts, too!

Franny.....happy to hear you're doing a little better today. Hey, that shake doesn't sound half bad that you made!

Ellis......I shudder to think of those teen years. would be a horror to go back!!!!!

Sflake........Insurance co.'s are definitely not on my good list either! What a rip-off!

Franny, I'm sending you good thoughts today.

Everyone have a good day.....

Fran, that is a drag!!!Glad your feeling better.

I can suggest taking jello and when it is hot, mix in a stick of lowfat cream cheese, when it melts add in cold water and let set. It is more than jello, but it is tasty.

Try making some chili, or soup, you can boil up asparagus in chicken broth, garlic, add some fat free half and half and then mix in a blender, season with salt and pepper, make cream of asparagus soup, you can add a splash of olive oil or butter for flavor.

You'll feel even better in a few days and will be back eating regular foods.

hang in there.......

I'm still kicking, guys! Dentrassi, soup has become a mainstay for me...it is canned for now, but DH promised to make me some this weekend from scratch.

Rowan, love the idea of the jello/cream cheese...will definately try that! Cream of asparagus sounds yummy, too! Were you the one who posted your recipe a while back? I'll have to see if I can find it!

Thanks for all the good thoughts. It really does help to know I'm not in this alone!

And I promise I'll stop whining and just get over it...eventually!

Fran-
it might have been me, i don't remember, I have so many of them and i can't remember when i post them. I entertain all the time (it is a hobby) and so I am constantly finding, altering recipes. Most all of my guests eat whatever diet I am following at the time, and they NEVER know it.

The jello is great, I eat it all the time, regualr jello doesnt satisfy me, but this does, it is heavier and in phast 2 i imagine we could add berries to it as well. I have served this with fresh berries and whipped cream with stevia topped with mint leaves at a dinner party, no one figured out it was jello until they asked.

Hey franny, I just wanted to tell you.....I think Elmer Fudd is adorable!!!

Looks like you've gotten some wonderful advice already about food ideas, so I don't really have much to add. I just wanted to send you a little support and a big hug
