Default Baby You're A Firework!: July 2019 Daily Check-In & Accountability Thread

to the July 2019 daily weigh-in/check-in. ALL our welcome to this thread. Here you will find support, encouragement, and endless kindness.

Here you can:
~track your weight daily, weekly or however you'd like ... but do check in
~keep track of what you eat or didn't eat
~keep track of your water intake or lack of
~keep track of your exercise/other goals
~vent, rant ... express yourself or just chit-chat

Some of you will recognize this as a recycle of last year's thread but the title is just so perfect for July, and my message is no less true today than it was 365 days ago

For those of you who might not be familiar, the title of our July thread is courtesy of singer Katie Perry's hit song "Firework." Struggling with weight issues often leads to insecurity and self-doubt about other areas in our life. We sell ourselves short in how amazing and dynamic we are every damn day. Raise your hand if this has ever been you. Yep, I thought so. It is clear from reading various threads on the 3FC site that there is direct connection between dropped pounds and increased confidence. July is a long, hot month. Instead of viewing it as a month to slog through let's recommit ourselves to power through tough workouts, re-evaluate what's working and isn't working for our health or even in our lives, and embrace that we all are every bit as shiny, mesmerizing and powerful as any sparkler or bottle rocket.

Thanks for starting the next thread, Curvy! I'm going to stick with my 10 lb goal for this month, even though there will be a couple birthdays and a visit from family during this month...it will be rough, but keeping it consistent anyway. Good luck this month, everyone!

curvynotlumpy thank you once again for keeping this thread going. And thank you for your message about being as shiny and powerful as fireworks no matter what the scale says.

opheliaphoenix you had great success in June, I wish even more for you this month. And I saw your new frames in the previous thread and you look fantastic in them.

I lost 4.4 pounds in June and am aiming for a 5-pound loss this month. My body just does not want to let go of the weight, it takes so much work to lose just one pound, so I have to set smaller goals on that front. I believe this slow weight loss is a result of being on Depo. So really I will keep focusing on exercising rather than the number on the scale, because I know I am benefitting from moving and gaining muscles, even if the scale doesn't move fast.

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians

Martine: I hope you had a Happy Canada Day yesterday!

A little bump back up today, but I ate a bigger meal much later in the evening than I usually do, so it's no surprise. It doesn't help that it was pretty salty, either...lol. I should have a normal day today, so hopefully it will move back down tomorrow. However, tomorrow is my youngest's 5th birthday, and he definitely wants cake and to go out to dinner so I might see it go back up by Thursday. Going to try to go a little bit lighter today just so I can average out some of the extras I may have tomorrow.

I need to do better on weekends. :/ I'm not seeing movement on the scale but I am in my clothes so at least that's something. . .

shellofself seeing your clothes fitting better is a huge indicator that what you are doing is working. What do you see as issues on the weekends that you could improve upon? Sometimes you do need to disconnect from any plan you are doing, to take a break from how hard you are working. I'm telling you, one hour of aquazumba sounds AMAZING considering this heat wave we're going through right now.

We are currently going through a heat wave, but nothing compared to what they have had to endure throughout Europe. That is why I chose slightly shorter workouts this week, knowing how difficult it is to exercise in high heat and humidity. I also am getting up early to get it done before it gets too hot. I didn't yesterday though, thinking I could exercise after work but there was no way I could do it. But on the upside, I was the one in charge of receiving our delivery truck yesterday, since our warehouse coordinator was receiving training at another store, and I actually burned as many calories as I would've had exercising, just by moving 13 pallets using the pump truck/emptying boxes in the compactor/taking down boxes from the skids to be processed by our employees. I was actually impressed looking at my watch and seeing how much energy it took. This morning I completed a cardio workout which lasted a few more minutes than it should've because of a power surge requiring the computer to reboot. It felt good to do just regular cardio and not HIIT for a change.

A quick check-in for me in this sweltering heat. For a moment this morning I contemplated going for a long walk and then exercising, but just walking Loki for 15 minutes changed my mind about the walk. Loki crossed paths with his neighbour Biscuit, a small dog with big pointy ears that I find so endearing. They know of each other, they smell each other or even bark at each other when they go through the hallway of our building, but they have seldom come nose to nose. It was the cutest thing, they both wanted to play and were making adorable noises. Usually Loki growls and barks at other dogs, so this must mean he really likes Biscuit. While David was away at his ergo and physio appointments, I completed my workout, an upper body strength training routine that included moves I had never done before, which made it interesting. All I want now is a nice cool shower and to sit in front of an electrical fan (we only have air conditioning in our bedroom).

Happy 4th of July to everyone in the USA!

Good morning

Martine: Did you enjoy Canada Day? I'm sorry to hear about your sweltering weather. Do you get the humidity as well? That just compounds the misery. Northern California gets the summer heat--many days 100+ degrees--but the humidity is relatively low. A marked change from my growing up years in the Midwest where heat and humidity is the norm. Seek coolness where you can find it and stay on top of your hydration. Glad that Loki and Biscuit got to "formally" meet and that it was a good experience. Isn't it amazing how the calorie burn can add up doing strenuous work? I find when I'm in those situations that there is also a different sense of accomplishment that goes with it too.

shellofself: Your clothes fitting more loosely/comfortably is a concrete sign that you're doing something right! That's a win in and of itself.

opheliaphoenix: How was the birthday ? Is your youngest the little guy you posted a sweet picture of a couple of years ago? Curly hair and sitting in a high chair if I remember correctly? If so, wow do the years go by ! I hope it was a fun time for you and your whole family. A temporary bump up is well worth it.
************************************************** *********
Happy 4th of July to those state side! Not much planned today but I have lots of random tasks at home that need to be checked off my list. I can see our city's fireworks show from my home so I'm grateful to not have to negotiate lawn space in our park with the masses . While today is an official holiday, I also took Friday and Monday off as well to burn some vacation time. Wishing everyone a great day!

ShellofSelf: I agree with Martine...a change in your clothes is a great (if not a better) indicator that you're having success with what you're doing. Keep it up!

Martine: Great job finding ways to get in some exercise, even though you guys are dealing with such a nasty heat wave...and, I'm glad that Loki and Biscuit's official first meeting was a happy one!

Curvy: It was good, but I did some pretty hefty damage in the food department between eating out and the cake/goodies! I calculated it all up at the end of the day, and it was right at/a smidge over 3k cals. But, it was a happy day all around, so it was worth it. Just going to get back to my normal routine, and I'm sure it will just be a blip on the scale's radar in time. And, yup, that was him! Though, he doesn't have his baby curls anymore ...lol. Here he was yesterday! Also, that's great that you can see the city's fireworks so clearly from your house...I bet nothing beats being able to take it all in from the comfort of your own home! We will have to deal with trekking into town and trying to find some kind of parking with a good vantage point this evening.

----------------------

Just a quick check-in today...there was a bump up, as expected, but things will be going back to normal today so hoping to reverse things back in the right direction before week's end. Hope everyone who is in or from the United States has a Happy 4th today!

opheliaphoenix how neat that you can see fireworks from your home. I love fireworks but I hate crowds, so I rarely go see them. Glad your son had a great birthday and that you got to enjoy it too. Celebrations are a part of life and a birthday cake it meant to be eaten.

curvynotlumpy I do enjoy having a day off on Canada Day but don't celebrate it (see my hatred of crowds above). Up here we do get the humidity that goes with the high temperatures, so it's very uncomfortable. But that's what electrical fans and air conditioning and water are for. You too are very lucky to be able to see fireworks from your house. And hope you enjoy your 5-day weekend.

This heat wave is somewhat tolerable but really hard on Loki. We're trying to keep him cool inside in between short walks. Skies are really clouding over, chances of thunderstorms today, which may or may not help to cool things down. I just got in a workout, a bodyweight only lower body workout that felt really good, but I am drenched. I learned that I will probably be off tomorrow to make up for last Saturday when I had to go in. Which would be great because I could attend a party hosted for a former employee of ours who was promoted, only to learn that she had throat cancer and had to undergo a tracheotomy. She is now cancer-free but now has sort of been "abandoned" by the medical system and is feeling quite down and out, so her daughter organized a surprise party for her. I'm not a party person but to help boost someone's morale, I'll go.

2:
3: 37 minutes cardio workout
4: 35 minutes upper body strength training workout

Martine: I'm sorry to hear about your co-worker and I hope her recovery is going as planned. Did you end up having the day off and able to attend her surprise party? While I don't like crowds I will make concessions especially if I know it's meaningful for someone else. Sometimes I need reminding that my presence is wanted and it's an opportunity to celebrate/honor someone special to me. The heat is particularly tough on our fur families. I see a lot of folks getting their walks in early and they are often accompanied by their dogs.

opheliaphoenix: Unfortunate about his baby curls but what a handsome boy he is! I'm glad his day was happy and fun!! How were the fireworks in your area?
************************************************** *************
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. The 4th of July was pretty uneventful except for the fireworks display in the evening. There was lots of variety in the fireworks this year and it lasted about 25 minutes. I have been super lazy this weekend. I really thought I'd get more done but maybe this is exactly what I needed. Well, I have more than enough time to kick it into gear and salvage the rest of my time off. We'll see Weight is down just a smidge from the last couple of days to 210 but I'll take it.

RealiserMesReves nice to see you back and on track. I totally relate to dealing with slow weight loss but I just figure that the changes I am making in the way I eat and being active is good for my health no matter what the number on the scale says, so that keeps me going.

curvynotlumpy I say great job on being lazy so far this weekend. We all need that from time to time. Yes I did attend the surprise party for my former employee. I did not stay long though. I was the only person from my company to go and didn't know anyone and felt totally out of place. It was all family and really old friends and everyone was talking about. getting in the pool and I was not going to be the lone person who does not get in the pool. I don't do well in social situations where I don't know anyone, I was there for about an hour and it felt like forever to me. But my former employee was very surprised and happy to see me and I gave her a card signed by many of our team members, so it was worth enduring my social awkwardness.

Today was a rest day for me. After I worked the afternoon/evening shift last night I went to pick-up David at a friend's. It was too hot and muggy for me to be able to wind down so we went for a bit of a drive with the windows down and Loki sticking out his head the whole time and that helped to cool us down. But since I only wound up going to sleep around 12:30am, I was very tired this morning and decided to just take it easy. Tomorrow I'll be starting a new 4-week program from Fitness Blender, which includes more HIIT and cardio than the previous program I tried. As much as I love strength training, I'm trying to mix things up and see if the scale moves a bit faster.

Hope everyone is enjoying a great weekend

Finally a break in the humidity! There's a nice breeze going through the apartment right now. Such a great sunny morning here I got up early and completed the first day of the new program I am trying. There are extra credit workouts here and there and that makes the workout a bit longer, which is something I want to try. I looked at the scale this morning and saw a 2-pound loss from the last time I weighed in. I know it'll fluctuate but it was nice seeing that this morning.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone! I'm off to work in a few.

1: 3.8km walk + 38 minutes HIIT/lower body strength training workout
2:
3: 37 minutes cardio workout
4: 35 minutes upper body strength training workout
5: 37 minutes lower body workout

7: 38 minutes HIIT + 10 minutes lower body strength training

Martine: Glad you're having some nicer weather today and got a nice drop on the scale, as well!

Curvy: Thank you!! And, the fireworks here were alright. They were having lots of issues getting it going in the beginning and had lots of duds during the first try, so I think there may have been some water damage to some of the setup from rains the previous night...at least that's what it seemed like; the city made no official remarks about the issues. It was still a nice show once they got it going, though. Sounds like your display was a much more successful one!

RealiserMesReves: Happy to see you joining in and doing well!

--------------------------------------------------

Well, it was a slow week overall due to that bump up in the middle, but at least I ended the week below where I started. I got in over 20k steps yesterday, so I think that helped drop it back down a little today. It's going to be another busy week this week, but hoping I can finish Week Two on a stronger note...have a great day, everyone!

Week One
01: NWI.
02: 195.8
03: NWI.
04: 196.6
05: 195.8
06: 196.0
07: 194.8
