Default The winds of change are blowing: November 2018 Check-in & Accountability Thread

to the November 2018 daily weigh-in/check-in, everyone! This is an open invitation to one and all to join our little neighborhood association. There are no membership dues and everyone is qualified

Here you can:
~track your weight daily, weekly or however you'd like ... but do check in
~keep track of what you eat or didn't eat
~keep track of your water intake or lack of
~keep track of your exercise/other goals
~vent, rant ... express yourself or just chit-chat

November is one of the comfort months. By this time, jackets or coats are part of our everyday wear and we seek comfort in sweaters, hot beverages and food that sustains us in different ways than our food choices in the warmer months. November also ushers in a time for family, friends and in the United States. While there is still two months to go until we reach the new year, many of us begin to reflect back and think about our year in review. What are those experiences that brought joy and belly laughs? Maybe loss and sadness? Is the plan for self-care and wellness working or is a refresh called for? The holiday season can often seem very long and overwhelming with all kinds of demands. Now is probably not the time for big change, but maybe we can consider November (and December) as a time to plan and gather some of those good ideas and suggestions to do things differently and start fresh in the new year. And let's not forget gratitude; it will be as varied as there are people.

Wishing everyone a lovely November. May the month treat you kindly

Curvy:Thank you so much for getting November’s thread up and running! I chuckled a little as I read your description of November, as I’m sitting here reading it, sipping my herbal tea and am bundled up tight in a thermal, hoodie, and fleece-lined leggings

This month I am aiming to focus more on my activity goal: get outside for a walk for an hour most days of the week. I did not do this nearly often enough over the month of October and have gotten the ball rolling on it yesterday and today by taking Loki for some nice long walks (and tackled my anxiety of letting her wander off leash). My goal this month is to make it to 235, which would put me in line for my December goal of less than 230. Best of luck to everyone this month!

It's November already!

Bloominbutterflies: How are your new dietary changes working out?

VickieLou: Hi there!

Today’s weigh-in was 240.7, which surprised me because I went waaaayyy over calories yesterday and shark week is right around the corner. I have officially adjusted my signature, even though I should probably wait to see what the weight settles out to be over the next few days, as weight loss is never linear, but I was just so excited! Next step will be 50% to goal (or 65 lbs. down)! I took Loki for a nice 45-minute walk at a state park yesterday, after buying some lovely olive oils from a local company. With my walking on campus for rehearsal last night, I made it to my 1-hour exercise goal. I’m so excited about the oil and vinegar I bought, I can’t wait to put them on my salads this weekend. I found my tried and true garlic-infused olive oil and bought some rosemary garlic white balsamic, which I plan to put on my salad with some turkey, chopped rosemary and sea salt almonds, and half an apple. I also found some grapefruit white balsamic vinegar. The one thing that saddens me about this diet is my former favorite raspberry dark balsamic (and most dark balsamic except the plain varieties) are way too sweet and I now find that they overpower most dishes Anywho, that’s my plan for dinner at work the next three nights. I possibly won’t have a chance to check in until Monday, so I hope everyone has a great weekend!

RunningRedHead Congrats on the loss! I can hear your zest for life oozing out of your post, and it's contagious and has put me in a good mood too! It feels great to support local companies.

So I know I haven't been very chatty the past few weeks. I've been frustrated with my lack of progress, and have been dealing with a lot of drama. We are having a problem with our apartment complex, and I had a ton of problems with a group project in one of my classes. I've had a lot of homework/projects; my cat who is 14 months old is very needy and has some behavioral issues. Anyway, I feel like I've been in a stress sucking vortex.

But today is a little better, because no matter how small, I saw some progress today with my new weight loss plan (and it's even during shark week!). I know I will not make my goal tomorrow, so I'm going to already just start thinking about the next one to meet. My boyfriend very generously got a black card at planet fitness and we plan on going together at least once a week. I went for the first time yesterday and we had a lot of fun. Today is a feasting day, and I have plans to have dimsum with a few friends, go to archery, and then visit a friend downtown who is opening a new ramen restaurant. So today is salt, fat, and sugar lol. Hate to say it, but it always brightens my mood. I really hope I continue to see results with my plan, I've got my fingers crossed that come the end of the week I'll see an even lower weight than 168.8.

Good morning

I hope everyone had a good weekend and that your week is off to a good start. It seems that I'm down a couple of pounds this week to 209.8, but this is fresh out of the shower unclothed. I'll see tomorrow what the official scale says at my weigh in. Food wise it has been hit or miss this past week. There are days that I do exceptionally well only to blow it by dinner time. Social situations also continue to vex me; last Wednesday our division had a Halloween potluck. I arrived late due to the party overlapping my transfer class. Lots of great food and I managed to make some good choices. I ate two Buffalo Chicken Strips, brussel sprout salad and about a cup of rice pudding. It was just enough and I felt satisfied. Yesterday, in honor of Veterans Day, campus staff tied yellow ribbons on the trees on our quad. Our Veterans Center Coordinator brought donuts and coffee. I had two glazed donuts I am consistently inconsistent .

Unusual stress has also been challenging me. Last Tuesday one of my staff who has been with me for six years and on campus nine, told me that he is resigning January 1. I was shocked but after having a couple of deep conversations with him I understand more. He's from Southern California, we're in Northern California. He's concerned about his parents and their well-being. They aren't at all old. Through hard work and saving have managed to save quite a nest egg that they refuse to put in a bank. In addition, they don't have a will or trust and no real plan for the future. As my staff member told me, "Curvy, I don't care what they want to do with their money and things, only that they control that and not probate laws." He thinks if he's down there and spends time with them he'll be in a better position to convince them to put their affairs in order. Right now they have an immigrant mentality to all this stuff. In addition to his parents, he really feels like it's time for him to move on and do some soul searching about his next steps and find out what he's really good at. That may sound funny but we work in Student Affairs and do so many different type of things so we learn how to adapt according to needs. I get where he's coming from; it's hard to know what one is truly good at or has a passion for. So, I'm concerned about him and also about the center. He was promoted to a new position last year and I'm currently hiring to fill his previous position. Now I need to think about filling his current position as well. It's a lot but I'm determined not to eat my way through this stress and upheaval. I'm also determined to remain as positive as I can be.

Okay, I need your collective advice. My birthday is this Sunday, November 11. A couple of months ago I decided to book a weekend in a neighboring city (20 minutes away) to celebrate and just get away. Now with everything going on I'm reconsidering this plan knowing that there is so much work to be done between now and January 1. Do you think I should cancel my plans and take advantage of the long holiday weekend? I've been going back and forth on this question in my mind since last week. Any input you have is appreciated .

CurvyNotLumpy my personal advice would be to go on your vacation. For myself, and I am a worrier so if it were me, I would probably be blowing the situation out of proportion. In school I get stressed about tests and projects and then I'm surprised that I don't need quite as much time to prepare as I thought. I also think you might regret not going if the situation isn't as terrible a you've thought, and if the situation IS that terrible then you deserve a break anyhow!

I think I've gone over the stress hump myself, and I have a feeling the worse is over. I got my cavities done yesterday which was on both sides of my mouth, seems like there is no more school drama, I got my last class registered, and there is a chance we might settle things with the apartment over the issue of my cat. I used to feel 100% sick thinking about all those things lol, but now I just feel 15% sick over the apartment fine.

Again, it's too early to say if my new diet is panning out, but I've got a good feeling. I was reflecting on my old diet too, and I think that it wasn't too many calories during my diet that screwed my progress over in October. I think getting to 168.2 at that time was a bit of a fluke, just a very rare day. Also, I think my breaks might not be such a good idea. Now that I get 2 days a week where I eat anything anyway, I especially don't think I need breaks for my diet. I know this probably sounds like the craziest thing on here, but I was worried I would lose weight too quickly. I don't want to get saggy skin, and I've heard scary things about the weight coming off unevenly. Also, the pettiest reason of all, I don't want to have to buy a million new sizes of clothes in next couple of years. I've got students loans to pay off, and I don't want to decide between spending a ton of money on clothes vs. looking like crap in clothes too big.

Anywho though, I've decided to just go for it and see where my diet takes me. I will slow it down if I get ahead of my schedule, but I will keep going none the less.

Hello everyone

I just realized that it's already November 9th and I hadn't checked in to the new thread yet. Thank you curvynotlumpy for this thread once again. And curvy do go on your weekend getaway and treat yourself. Don't let work get in the way of your life, as we too often do. Have a fab birthday this weekend!

Wishing everyone continued success this month

I am loving my shuffle diet so far!!! 1.2 lbs in a week for me is really a lot, and I love having my free days so I can just go out and live my life. The 900 calorie days are definitely hard, but totally worth it. Today I am going cake tasting for my brother's upcoming wedding, and then later we will have them over for dinner. I am making two different kinds of pie, chicken pot pie & apple. In other news I've been really getting into Korean skin care. I know I'm late, but I finally started to do a double cleanse. Cleansing oil wigged me out for the longest time as an oily skinned person, but I've gotten a lot more used to putting richer stuff on my skin. I also do 7 skin a few times a week now, and I think it makes a big difference. There are a few new products I want to try when I get around to it. I have been watching gothamista on youtube and she has lots of great affordable recommendations!

Cool

Bloominforbutterflies: So glad to hear your new WOE is working so well for you, What is this 7 skin of which you speak?

Curvy: I’m a little late on this, so I hope you listened to Bloomin and Martine and went on vacation for your birthday. That work will still be there when you get back and if I learned one thing this year, it is that it is ok (and even very important) to start putting yourself and your needs first!Your division party sounds fun and it sounds like you had some tasty food choices! I think it’s wonderful that you all honored veterans day with yellow ribbons on the trees. Sorry to hear about the impending loss of a coworker and another position to think about filling. It’s really hard when a great team member is moving on to other things. I always struggle with the mixed feelings of being so happy for them, excited for their new challenges and saddened by the thought of missing them or not working with them anymore.

Martine & Magicsusan: Hi there!

Sorry, I’ve been so busy this week I didn’t even realize it had been almost a week since I last checked in. Shark week has come and gone and so has the associated bloat and whoosh. This past week I helped a good friend move into her new house and I went wedding dress shopping with another friend and we think she found the one! I’m so excited (and also thrilled that I didn’t cry in the middle of David’s Bridal ). Next step is shopping for the dresses for the bridal party and finishing the planning for the bridal shower and bachelorette. I’m so excited! This week I have a date with my cousin to help her pack up her tchotchkes and other small items for when her floors get redone in a couple of weeks (she’s 82, so lots of help without it being outwardly obvious as help is needed; she’s definitely a young 82 though!). Basically, we have to move her out of her house for about a week and then move her back in.

The past week and a half I have come within one day of meeting my activity goal and I’ve actually done my PT exercises like I should have been doing all along. Tonight is work, which shouldn’t be too bad, and then tomorrow I’m going to my friends (the one who’s getting married) for dinner to meet the best man. I am getting the sense that we’re being setup, but I’m trying not to get ahead of myself because that adds a lot of pressure. Wish me luck!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend and has an even better week!

and happy Veterans Day

Martine: I'm so glad to see you check in. I know that as October was wrapping up you were struggling with a number of things, in particular your reassignment to the new store and leaving your beloved colleagues at your previous one. I hope the time away from the thread has done you well and been good for you. I thought about you a lot when my staff told me of his intent to resign. Even though I'm not leaving this will be a loss and our center will change. I struggle every day balancing the sadness with the opportunity that a fresh voice and perspective will bring to my unit. Martine, I hope you'll continue to update us. We're here for you .

RunningRedHead: You are one busy lady! Just reading your schedule for the next few days leaves me feeling exhausted Ugh, moving is such and arduous job (at least it has been for me) so I'm happy your cousin has your help and that you are more than willing to help her. Your friend's wedding plans sound like they are moving along just fine and everything is falling into place as planned. I'm excited to hear about how your dinner goes, and I concur, it DOES sound like you're being set up

bloominbutterflies: You're doing fantastic and it seems like you've hit a sweet spot with your shuffle diet both in terms of the lower number of calories and your attitude toward them. I think it's cool how much you know about skin care and able to experiment with what works and doesn't work for you. My interest of late has been bullet journaling so I've been pouring a lot of my free time into looking at YouTube videos and online set-ups that folks use to help them be more productive.

Aww, birthday wishes appreciated and being held close today . My thanks to all of you who encouraged me to spend my birthday weekend as planned. All of your points were well received and so spot on! I did go ahead and keep my reservation and I'm really glad I did. I spent today doing a little shopping, having my brows waxed and eating a nice meal out. There is really something about spending the day just the way you want it and not feel any pressure to adjust or bend to anyone else's plan. Our campus is closed tomorrow to observe the holiday so I'll be spending the day back at home doing un-birthday things: laundry, mopping my kitchen and going through junk mail

Wishing everyone a wonderful remainder of your Sunday and good start to the week. Remember to thank and acknowledge the veterans you know or who are in your life.

CurvyNotLumpy I'm so glad you went & happy birthday! I agree doing everything exactly how you want is a real treat. I used to spend my birthday's doing the magic trifecta of shopping, spa, and restaurant. You're making me wonder why I've stopped!

RunningRedHead 7 skin is when you put on 7 layers of a hydrating toner or first treatment essence. I do it at night before bed twice a week, and top it off with some rosehip seed oil. It's basically a sheet mask, but usually better! I get Missha Time Revolution first treatment essence which is made nicer than the tony moly I'm real sheet masks I buy from abroad. It takes about 10 minutes to do, and is a little sticky, but man do you glow. I've done the math too, and it's more cost effective for me. That is just crazy you went wedding dress shopping Sunday! I actually got invited to go myself, but had plans to see Jason's parents. We could have been activity twins. My brother's fiance found her dress in an hour and a half though, that is impressive.

So my life has been a little more on the hectic side. I've got 4 presentations scattered over the end of the semester, and it's been keeping me busy. I'm also having my parents come and stay next week for Thanksgiving, and I've never even touched a turkey before. So yea, send a little wish my way I don't start a grease fire or turn my turkey into saw dust. I've decided to go for a moist turkey since one with crispy skin seemed a little too easy to screw up.

I went clothes shopping sunday afternoon! As pretty much always, I went to kohls. I got a blue t-shirt from apt. 9 that says "chaos coordinator" that made me laugh because that is so me, and I had to get it. Also got a chaps southwestern print sweater tunic thing in blue to wear with the T-shirt. It's got those buttons that look like claws (give me a break, style lingo is hard for me!). Thanks to coupons & a gift card I got from befrugal (type of ebates) I ended up only paying $35! yay. I felt like the XL sweaters were fitting pretty big on me which was nice, but annoying because I had to check between two sizes a lot for fit. I looked up how much I weighed last time I went clothes shopping in September and there was only a 2 lb difference that day . I think it's funny how I like to pretend I'm dramatically shrinking in sizes each time I go shopping. But it's a comforting lie, yeah?
