Default New to site

Hi, my name is Jean and I am 63 years old. I need to lose about 50 pounds and it sure would be nice to have some friends to be able to talk to while I am on this long journey. I am married with 2 cats (hence the user name 2catslover). Anyway, hoping to find some people in the same predicament I am in, Older and Overweight.

Hi, Jean. I am in my fifties, and definitely have found weight loss to be very challenging. I had given up over the past 2 years and consequently gained 25 pounds that i am now trying to get rid of. I feel too heavy and my knees and joints are suffering. So last week, I rededicated to calorie counting (MyFitnessPal app) and this causes me to slow down and rethink everything that I eat. Maybe now I will have 2 crackers while before I would have 10 or as many as I could put in my hand. So far, so good, but it's only been a week. And I'm trying to eat lots of meats and vegetables. What are you doing to lose weight?

Hello there, I'm new too and also need to lose weight for health reasons. I'm 50 years old, a married mom and teacher, and I'm too good at putting myself dead last on my priority list. I lost 35 pounds last fall, but then went through a stressful time in the beginning part of this year and started eating all wrong again. So, time to rededicate myself to healthier choices.

As to recommendations about being older and overweight, I would highly recommend looking into the research on the work of Dr. Jason Fung before trying to choose a diet plan. I know the LCHF diet when combined with intermittent fasting worked like crazy for me, and I felt so much better even while I was losing weight. (I can also recommend the site DietDoctor.com, which is paid but offers a 30 day free trial that you can cancel at any time. It's a corny sounding title, but 30 days is more than enough time to watch their informational videos and courses on hyperinsulinemia and intermittent fasting.)

Regaining a lot of the weight I lost was totally my fault because I let myself start stress eating again. I would be happy to have some friends to keep my motivated for this journey!

Hi and welcome!

Gardenparty, I'm having a lot of success with Weight Watchers. I can't stop singing it's praises. I just got back to my meeting and I've lost 43 pounds in 16 weeks so I'm kind of hyped up The tools are easy to use, it helps control my T2 Diabetes, I feel better than I have in ages, and I haven't had to give up any of the social stuff like eating with friends or going to parties. I just have to plan a little. Also, I get a tremendous amount of support. Not every plan is right for everyone, but if you're looking for something, it's worth considering.

Good luck to everyone with whatever plan you use.
