Good morning from slightly cloudy Delta where my peonies, poppies and lemon lilies are STILL not in bloom. A very slow summer to arrive!
Off to get the bread for the Mill, a quick coffeetime with the group who are renovating our old Church and then I get into my parson's wife persona for yet another country "lunch". (Apparently lunch still doesn't exist in rural Canada - it's dinner and is huge and always includes pie.) Even Bruce the Skinny Parson is starting to worry about a slight weight gain. He preaches in an neighbouring parish tomorrow which will be followed by another meal. I am getting pretty sick of ham and jellies salads but am not gaining - so far.
Time to quit griping and crank up the day. Wishing you a good weekend.
Thanks for getting us started, Ruth! Yes, it's been a slow start to summer here although since I live at two different altitudes at different times the peonies are going down in Glenwood and yet to bloom in Idaho Springs. LOL The lilacs got froze out with the heavy snow on 18 May and so Idaho Springs had very little of this year too bad because they are my favorite!
I am sitting on the porch in Glenwood with my coffee. I have the laundry and dishes going. That my timers set for the new splashguard. Still have to set the timer for my rosebush which is looking pretty sad. In addition to the usual, I have my rotor tiller to pack up and a handcart that I bought at the Restore yesterday. Some packing and cleaning and then I'm off for trouble this morning. I go back to work tomorrow.
Last week my friend and I was left on Saturday morning but when we got home from eating all the thrift stores yesterday we were both exhausted. We took a short nap's and she decided to just get up and go so she could sleep in this morning. She likes to sleep later than I do.
I need to get back with my food plan. I did OK over here this week except for the carrot cake my sister made. It's my favorite.
Have a great start to the weekend everyone! I will see you on the other side. LOL
So happy it's Saturday, if only because I take the weekend off of exercising.
Ruth - that's a lot of lunch! lol But it is very sweet.
Debbie - I love carrot cake too. I wish I could sleep later! Every once in a great while if I'm completely exhausted I can sleep until 8. Most days I'm up between 6 - 7, and before then I'm usually laying in bed awake, but not alert.
I got some scary results yesterday at the dr. He tested my cholesterol and something called my crp - it shows your inflammation in your arteries and many believe it is more of an indicator of heart disease than cholesterol. Mine is super high. Apparently it is an assessment for your risk for heart disease, and you're either low, medium or high. Mine is on the high end of high. I already eat right, I don't smoke, I'm not longer obese, I exercise. I did buy a bunch of vitamins and supplements yesterday - like fish oil. But now I also am on statins. Which I really am not a fan of, but I'm less of a fan of having a stroke. My husband was trying to get me to calm down a little and he reminded me, you don't have heart disease, you are just at a higher risk for it, but you always knew you would be given your mom's history. He's right. And I'm vowing to be as proactive as possible. I do thank God I got this news after I had already lost so much weight.
I had a productive yesterday, got my mammo and got my MRI results to take to the other doctor next month. Did a grocery run and after work painted the railings for 3 hours until I yet again ran out of paint, I am about 95% done but will get more paint to finish up. We went to the lake for their celebration and walked around for about an hour and then came home. Only disturbing thing is I got a swollen lymph node on my right side of my neck started up on Wednesday night thought it was a reaction to the wasp sting, I am going to see if it goes down by Monday if not I guess I have to go back to the doctors.
Today is pretty but hotter here, we are going to the air show this morning and not sure what we are doing tonight, I do need to clean house though, laundry is done.
Ruth those church potlucks do not have the best food, but you can normally stay a bit on the healthy side if you can avoid the desserts
Debbie sounds like you got a lot accomplished in Glenwood, safes travel over
Amy sorry you got bad news but the good news is your on the right path for being proactive about it
Hey chicks! Guess I didn't post when I checked in this morning. I spent the morning cleaning and now I'm sitting for a bit after eating lunch. Quite soon I will put on my garden clothes and "play in the flowers" as my boys call it. I might need to water the veggies too.
Ruth, that's a lot of temptation! Good luck on not gaining.
Debbie, carrot cake is my DH's favorite.
Amy, I agree with Pearl and your DH: you have a higher risk but you don't have it and you are well on the road to being proactive.
Pearlrose, hope the various ailments clear up soon.
Think I'll go set up my hummingbird feeder. DH got it for me at end of season last fall and I haven't opened it yet.
Ruth - our bloom season is off this year too.
Amy - new testing often lets us manage health issues before they become problematic
Beth - are you getting the heat wave this week?
Pearlrose - glad you got the railings done
Debbie - hope you squash garden produces lots of goodies.
OhioDreamer - have a wonderful weekend camping.
Up at my normal 5:30 which is fine. Meeting my friend Ed and his family at a canine demonstration this morning. It's a yearly competition. It is going to be a scorcher here, but I know they will make sure the dogs are very well taken care of. Later I will go to Joe's. We are going to Bavarian Manor for dinner. This will not be SB compliant lol. Tomorrow I will tackle the normal to do's.
Keep your fingers crossed I hear from DS today. I am dying to know how he did on his PT test.
I am tired this morning and the interesting fact is that I didn't have my smoothie yesterday. Will for sure make it this morning.
I didn't make it back over the hill yesterday until 1130. I couldn't get the timer set for the squash garden and it had to be done before I left. Finally got it! While I was on my way over, my friend asked me to go to Denver with her. I decided to do that instead of mowing the lawn. When I got home I had to unload, change clothes and I immediately headed down.
It's early enough I'm going to get some spot watering done in the yard before I leave this morning. Maybe I can get the lawn mowed when I get home this afternoon.
Jennifer, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you hear from your son today.
Good morning from sunny and summery Delta. After a month of cold weather crabbing, finally this morning, there are two huge salmon coloured poppies in full bloom.
Survived the family feast yesterday with very minor scale damage - I'm learning to check out the buffet table before joining the line-up. Did deviate slightly on funny little butterscotch chip and pretzel lolipops made by the great grandkids. (How can you say no to a wee blond girlie named Maeve?) Today there is another luncheon in our honour after Bruce preaches in Church in the next town. This afternoon there is a boat ride on a pontoon boat on Big Rideau Lake. So the social whirl continues!
I'm in a hurry this morning, having breakfast and then heading to church. After church we are probably going to BJ's, we need meat and fruits for the week, then probably lunch, not sure if we are eating out or at home.
I'm still doing great... no sweets, carbs, grains, or legumes. I weigh in this morning and my scale finally moved, I lost 4lbs last week! This week is my last week doing the Whole 30 I'm not sure if I'm going to continue or just make some adjustments.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend, I will come back later and catch up with the thread since I didn't read it yesterday
It is going to be a hot one today but sunny. We didn't go to air show, it would have been just DD1 and myself going and we decided we didn't want to fight the crowds. We ended up going shopping for DD2 parade outfit for next Saturday and went and got more paint as well. I did not finish the railings didn't feel like it. I got half the cleaning done. I will try and do some of it today but we are going to the lake to hear a band that plays at 3.
DH and I went out for an omelet this morning and then did grocery shopping. While we were out I bought a shepherd's crook so I could hang my hummingbird feeder. I just made the syrup and am waiting for it to cool so I can fill the feeder.
I got most of the cleaning done yesterday and spent some time weeding and working in the flower gardens. My perennials are forever a "work in progress"; I constantly notice something is blooming here and not there which prompts me to transplant. Moved a few irises yesterday; if I do it now I know which ones are which color; I can't tell them apart in the fall. I'm also thinking of slightly changing the shape of one bed; it's too long and skinny so I may move some of the things on the end to make the middle wider.
Jennifer, hope you hear from DS
Ruth, good plan of attack on the buffet! We should all learn that trick.
Debbie, I need to water the veggies later. Our garden is small so we hand water with cans.
Isa, isn't it satisfying when the scale moves!!
Pearlrose, enjoy the concert.
We are supposed to be hot here most of this week. I'm going to try not to complain since I was crabbing about the cold rainy spring!
