Good Evening! It's been another nice day in my neighborhood even though the temperature was 92. Even the weather forecasters are talking about our low humidity. I have the sliding doors open tonight and there is a cool breeze coming in. I went for a perm this morning and I'm hopeful that for once she did it like I asked. We'll see tomorrow. This afternoon I took a nap! For some reason the last few nights I wake up around 2:00 and then can't get back to sleep for a couple hours. I could have easily fallen asleep while waiting for my perm to process. I would have been embarrassed if I fell out of the chair!
Ian has a baseball tournament weekend which started at noon today. He sent me a text saying they won. I wrote back and asked if he got a hit; he said he hit it out in left field. Later his mom said he had 5 of the 8 runs and sent 3 runners in. They play at noon and again at 7 tomorrow night; it is supposed to be very hot so not sure if we will go although I would love to. If they win both they play again on Sunday.
"Gma," hope the game is a good one tomorrow night. Amanda's dad is 6'6" and I didn't think to ask how he fit into the ship's shower. They had the same balcony cabin we did and there sure wasn't much shower room. It's a good thing we had "squirt" soap because there is no way one could bend over to pick up a bar of soap. One thing we were told when we got our washer was to dry off the around the rubber seal and to leave the door open to guard against mildew. I am getting used to the car. Bob ordered light colored floor mats to match the seats because the black shows every speck of lint and dirt. I had to hook up to the Bluetooth so the security system would be complete. So far no one has called me when I'm driving, thank goodness!
I have clothes in the washer to switch to the dryer and then I am heading off to bed. Hope you enjoy a nice weekend!
I know I sat here and posted yesterday. Ahh well. Gosh it is hot and humid here this week. I have been running the ac almost non stop.
The electrician that works with Jack is coming over tomorrow to see if he can find out what the problem is with the two plugs not having any electricity nor the garage. I sure hope he can find it and we can get it fixed. He refuses to charge us anything, which is nice so I am going to make something to take home to his family. A cobbler maybe.
I start my pre prep meals today. I have to remind myself of all the stuff I can't eat from now until after Friday's procedure. I can't have any fruit except mushy banana, no veg unless it is cooked to death and very mushy. I can only have ground meat so for me that means hamburger for two days. I can only have white breads and pastas etc for today and tomorrow but no sauce because it is red. Geez! I just want to get this over with at this point. I am very stressed about goofing up what I can't eat.
Jean: We had a fun overnight trip. The ballpark was really nice and it is only about 80 miles from home so an easy trip. We stayed the night rather than drive home late. I don't like coming back into our neighborhood really late because I have to get out of the car before Jack pulls it into the garage or I can't get out of the passenger side. That leaves us open to being robbed or whatever if someone is watching. We have never had any trouble here with that, but I am not going to put us in that situation either. I keep my washer open and I also buy this stuff from Tide that you put in it and run it through a cycle and it cleanses everything. Works pretty well.
Good Evening! It's been a long day and I am tired. We left at 7:30 for Sioux City and the hospital volunteer workshop. It was interesting except there are usually more in attendance to share ideas. We didn't get back home until 4:30, time enough to change clothes and head to the P.E.O. meeting. That was a typical review of the state meeting, as in boring, but I agreed to take money and pick up the attendance sheet. I need to learn to say, "NO!" I am ready for bed!
"Gma," good luck with your prep diet. Doesn't sound very inviting. Did your team win the game? Hope Jack's co-worker can figure out the electric plug problem.
I am going to grab a couple magazines and head for bed. Have a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow!
I am finishing up cleaning kitchen counters this morning then going to grab a shower. Jack's boss is coming this afternoon to look at the plug issue. Jack took a picture of the electrical panel in the house after he had removed the cover and his boss said, "This will be easy." So maybe he saw the problem, who knows? I sure hope so because I don't want to be ripping out walls to find a problem.
My house smells like baby powder and sugar cookies this morning. I have the baby powder smell in the living room and the sugar cookies in the kitchen.
Did ok on first day of "diet" as I made hamburger gravy last night with biscuits and mashed potato. I just had a biscuit with the gravy over it. Second day same as yesterday. Since Gary is going to be here, we decided just to have Jack go to Burger King for dinner. I can only have condiments on my burger so will just get ketchup and mustard I guess. I like pickles and onions with that or if I get mayo, then add tomato and lettuce, but am not allowed any of those things. Tomorrow I get 2 eggs and two slices of toast for breakfast then 1 cup mac and cheese for lunch and then that's it until after it is all done. Just ready to get it over with.
I had a gift certificate and my clothing place had a sale on shoes, bogo free so I used my certificate and got two pairs of shoes for practically nothing. I just hope they fit. I got wides because the one pair laces up and the other ones have no stretch over the instep and if my feet swell I need the extra width so we shall see.
Jean: They did win the game for once. Every time we go to a ballgame the team loses. We have grocery shopping this weekend so that is always busy. I want to get my car washed if there isn't going to be rain. It needs it but it has rained here so much lately it wasn't worth it.
Good Afternoon! Another day of strange weather; we had almost 1/3" of rain during the night along with wind. It was chilly enough for a jacket this morning when I left. We balanced at church on the first try, and my posting also balanced. But when I got to the bank we were a dollar short in bills, then a dollar long in change. I told the teller I don't do that part but as long as the totals matched it was ok with me! I had lunch bunch at noon and we were a bunch of two: one was out of town, one not feeling well, and the other one unaccounted for. My "date" was the school secretary and we had lots to catch up on since we used to be in the same card club as well as being friends for 30+ years. The sun came out while we were having lunch and it is sticky humid again. I've been doing laundry since I got home and need to iron whatever I decide to wear to the funeral tomorrow.
"Gma," I just had to send a pair of shoes back, they fit fine except the back strap was Velcro and by the time I got it tight enough there wasn't much Velcro holding the strap together. I was afraid after I wore them very much they wouldn't stay attached. I am ready for a weekend with no commitments except to pick up money at church Sunday. It is our pastor's last Sunday and there is a farewell coffee between services for him, his wife, and their daughter who ran the video part of the service. We are missing another ball game tonight. Ian hit an infield homerun last night, and had couple good catches, they won 14-2. I hate missing his "good/great" plays.
Hope you are enjoying a nice day and have a terrific Thursday tomorrow.
Good morning ladies! Not sure what's good about it but... It is overcast so we may get rain today. Jack took the MKS to work today since definitely no way I am wandering from home with the cleansing thing today.
The electrician friend was here for 3 hours but couldn't finish. He's having to figure out how they wired the house so he can follow it and test as he goes along. This condo is completely wired ridiculously and he's having a hard time finding which outlet the problem is. It's wiring not the plug. We have 2 plugs out in living room but didn't know the plug for freezer, which is another room, was out too! It's on the same circuit, which is just stupid as no other plug or lightswitch in that room is on that circuit! The thing is, part of the plugs and lighswitches on that same circuit work! So guess what? We lost about $200 in food and a nasty mess to clean up. I wondered what the "garbage" smell was when the house was closed up. Now I know, spoiled meat as this problem started last week and I hadn't needed anything out of the chest freezer. Euwww! Anyhow, I got that cleaned up and put a box of baking soda in it and shut the lid. I'll spray some tilex or antibacterial in the bottom and wipe it up before we put anything back in it. They I had my wax warmer on and he moved it to get to a plug and dumped wax all over the counter and ceramic stove and no one said anything so it dried and solidified. Men!!! What a mess that was. He took down the ceiling fan because of the wiring and we pitched it but had dust and ceiling crap all over so had to vacuum too after having just cleaned the house. I have open outlets and sitchplates all over the downstairs until he can come back this weekend. It has been a lousy couple of days and won't get better until I get this over with tomorrow and this is fixed. It has been in the 90's here this week and hot to work on stuff when the power is turned off. God love him, he won't take any money for this and said if we bought a new ceiling fan he'd install it for us! I told Jack I'd make them some nice dessert he could take home at least.
Jean: Ian is just flying with his baseball! So much for lunch bunch more like lunch couple! Our friends don't think they're going to be able to go on the cruise next year but she said they haven't decided so we are kind of in limbo with the reservation. It is around Thanksgiving next year so we shall see. We have until Sept of next year to cancel without penalty.
Good afternoon everybody! It is raining cats and dogs her and so humid it will make your hair curl.
Everything went hunky dory with my colonoscopy. I had a roaring headache when I got there and my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest, but I asked her if it could be lower electrolytes from the whole thing and she said possibly. My bp was about 116 over 72 or so and she said she would monitor me. When they gave me the sedation, I woke up with no headache and felt fine except woozy. Completely clean no polyps or anything so I am good for 10 years now. My headache is back so I took some Tylenol.
The electrician is coming back tomorrow morning so hopefully he can figure out the problem. I didn't feel like going to Lowes to get the ceiling fan today so Jack said he'd ask him to come back sometime.
Not much else going on here. We have grocery shopping weekend. I sure do like the Kroger clicklist thing where you can order groceries and just drive and pick them up! We didn't have to go to WM this weekend.
Good Evening! I was sure I had posted last night but either I didn't or it disappeared into never never land. I did a couple loads of laundry and then we headed off for Zowie's play. It is put on every summer by the children's community theater; this one lasted about 45 minutes. The exciting news was that Ian now has a set of wheels! It's an Oldsmobile Alero (sp?), a pretty gold color. He is so proud and so anxious to get his restricted license; that means he can drive anywhere between 6 am and 10 pm, six months with no moving violations and then he gets a regular "permit" until he turns 16. Our kids had school permits which meant they had to drive the shortest route between home and school. Ian has to drive a country road, 9 miles, to school. Needless to say I am a little nervous! We went out for ice cream and then headed home. Bob is going on a tractor ride tomorrow and I need to go to the grocery store!
"Gma," on a good colonoscopy report! I'm sure you are glad to have that over with. Yesterday we stopped to say "hello" to my stepmom on our way to the funeral. She was pretty perky! It doesn't take long to run out of things to visit about but she had a hair appointment so it worked just right. As I said before Bob's aunt was an amazing lady! Her granddaughter told some stories as did a neighbor who shared several tidbits from her close friends. We weren't aware of all the things she had accomplished in her 100 years. One thing, which I knew, was she did all her own cooking up until right before her birthday when she fell and ended up in the care center. We drove home in a few scattered raindrops, enough to really mess up the buggy windshield. We are in a storm watch until 10:00 tonight. I sure hope Jack's friend can figure out the electrical snafu. It's too bad you have such a mess with the freezer. Something else you could try is putting charcoal in the freezer. I've never tried it but read it somewhere. Does your household insurance cover the lost food? I would love to have someone do my grocery shopping!
I have a load of undies to fold and put away then I'm thinking my bed sounds pretty inviting! Hope you all enjoy a nice weekend and do something nice for yourself!
Good morning! First time in a long time I slept all night. Feel pretty darn chipper this morning.
Gary is supposed to be here at 10 so I have a bit of time to sit around in jammies before I dress. Jack went out to get donuts for he and Gary. He has a Kuerig coffee maker so he'll have to make Gary just a cup of coffee at a time. (I don't drink coffee ever.)
Jack went through Arbys and got late lunch after we were through yesterday and I have never had a blt taste so good. I was so hungry as all I was allowed Thursday was 2 eggs for breakfast and 1 c mac n cheese for lunch and nothing after that. We didn't get out of there until after 1 pm. BTW, Tx to Susan for the Sprite tip. Helped a lot!
While they are trying to search out the problem, I am going to work on my menu and grocery list for tomorrow. I have to go get money from atm tomorrow to send Thomas his birthday money since she won't let us see him.
Jean: I know Ian has to be thrilled. So Iowa let's kids drive on permits without a licensed driver (with restrictions?) May have changed but Indiana you had to have a driver with you unless you had your license. Anyway, he is a responsible kid, he'll be ok. Think about him driving on city streets here and the interstate here! That's how Thomas learned. In fact, he told us his dad taught him to drive by taking him out on the interstate some. I am sure it was nice having a visit with your mom. I was grumpy about the procedure this place used, but it went really well so would probably use them again. Of course they had a time with my IV thing for the sedation, but she poked me once and when she couldn't get it got the anesthesia gal to do it and she hit it first time.
Good Afternoon! It's cloudy and cooler here in my neighborhood so far with enough rain drops to smear the bugs on my windshield. I went to the grocery store this morning and have done some laundry. I need to iron Bob's church shirt and decide what I am wearing tomorrow, something my sweater might go with. Last week it was "cold enough to hang meat" in the sanctuary -- Bob's favorite comment. Beth is coming over tomorrow to go fishing with her dad. I hope they catch enough for a meal!
"Gma," Ian has been driving with a permit for a year, with his parents. He could also drive with any licensed adult. The kids have to take driver's ed in order to get their permit. In Iowa the kids can only drive with a parent or licensed adult to places beyond the school permit. Sioux Falls has the interstate going through and several multiple lanes on side streets. I'll take my two lane country roads! I had to have an EMT start my IV needle in the ER several years ago. I warned the nurse she got one try and that was all. I usually look like I've punched somebody by the time they poke around. Does Thomas turn 18 on his birthday? If so, he could choose to see you without his mother's consent. The situation is sad imo. I hope your electrical problem is fixed now.
The dryer is buzzing so another load is ready to fold, somehow I really got behind this week. Hope you have a nice evening and a super Sunday tomorrow!
Good morning to you all. I don't know if we are going to get rain today or sunny skies. I hope sunny as I have a waxing appointment at noon. We had a short whopper storm here yesterday. All of a sudden the wind started blowing very hard and the tree limbs were bowing almost to the ground then the rain whipped through and it was done in about 10 minutes then got very quiet. That kind of spooked me. They just got everyone's electricity back on here and now we have 26,000 without again. I hope it's not the same people. Some were without for almost 2 weeks.
We did shopping yesterday, came home and put away and did nothing else. I don't know who took over at the commissary, but they have fixed the cashiering problems. They had 5 open when we checked out yesterday. They even had everything we needed though they still have big open spots that haven't been filled.
Jean: Gary called Saturday morning and said they had an emergency with his mother in law and he couldn't come. I told Jack to talk to him about coming this weekend or whenever he had the time. I don't want him here after work because it may take a long time and I don't want him being away from his family that long on weekday evenings. We did go out and buy a new ceiling fan so he can put that in while he is here. I told Jack after we get home from the cruise we should hire him to put in a new outside electrical panel. Ours needs updating but it would cost a bundle if a regular electrician did it. I thought Gary might put it in a bit cheaper, but he is not going to do it for nothing. No, Thomas turns 17 a week from yesterday. I am not putting him in the middle of this thing by making a fuss. When he is older he can make the decision. I just always put in his cards how much we love and miss him. It is sad, but Jean, I am just too tired to fight anymore. We haven't done anything wrong. I had one surgery where they poked me 8 times after I was in that holding room before you go in. An anesthesiologist finally got one in my right finger and said he would change it when I was asleep. I came out and woke up in recovery with it still in my finger! They tell you to drink a lot of water, well I have done that and it does no good. They are just deep. I have one place in my left elbow you can get blood or put in an IV easily and that's it. If it gets blown we are in trouble.
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the wind is blowing; it is cool in the house and I'm seriously thinking about digging out a sweatshirt. The church office manager offered to help me count this morning, and after several attempts we gave up. She is not an adding machine whiz (neither am I) so each time she tried, came up with a different total. We checked and double checked the check amounts with the envelopes with no luck they matched on the adding machine tape. I counted the cash so that part was ok. We had a good turnout so had more money than usual to count. My regular co-counter plans to be back towards the end of the week so we may get together and wade through it before next Sunday. Again, it was a slow week at the gift shop so not much to count there. I went to make the deposit and get my nails done after lunch. Now I have laundry in both the washer and dryer and should be thinking about dragging out the vacuum. My ambitious ideas don't always materialize.
"Gma," It would be nice if Gary can fix your electrical panel. We had our's done when we added on 20 years ago and think it was around $500. I'm sure it would be a lot more now. I just got the bill for our Sioux City paper and I am steaming. It went up $71 from last year and $401 is due 6/30, for a year. I knew I didn't pay it in June last year so dug out the old check registers, and I paid it on 8/20. I called and was told we now have premium newspapers! I asked what premium meant and it means: separate large puzzle section once a month, a separate large children's section once a month, and extra multiple ads during the holiday shopping times translating into a much larger paper being delivered. I pointed out we don't live near any of the stores advertising, we don't have children living here, and we are not puzzle people so would like to opt out of those parts of the paper. "Can't do that!" Then I asked what it would cost to get it online, $12 a month. I'm all for dropping it but will discuss it with Bob and see what he thinks. Both of us grew up with a daily newspaper and have always taken one, if not two for several (50) years. Makes me ! I'm trying to coordinate a family picture for our anniversary and that is turning into a nightmare trying to juggle around everyone's summer schedule. We may just do our own picture and call it good. Our church hasn't done a directory for several years so that picture is quite old. Decisions!
Susan, how is the new knee working? Good I hope!
I need to get busy and do something constructive! Hope you are enjoying a marvelous Monday!
Good morning to you all. Going to be hot and humid today. I am going to tackle upstairs bathrooms in a couple hours and be done with it. It is too hot to work yourself to death.
I went to my waxing appointment yesterday and am debating whether to have her wax my lower legs at my last appointment before I go on the cruise or do it myself. I bought a new fancy self tanner I want to try so will probably do them myself so I can put it on my legs ahead of time to see how it looks. I don't want brown, just a bit of color as I am so pale. This stuff is supposed to be great so we shall see.
Jack has decided he is not sharing the caramel corn with anybody so I guess he will be eating it all. I still may have him take some of the cheese popcorn to work. The cheese popcorn bags are quite a bit bigger and I am the only one that eats cheese popcorn.
I have my "free" shoes coming today so I hope they fit. If they don't I will give them to Goodwill as it would cost more to send them back than I paid for the whole shebang.
Jean: I hate it when I can't get something to balance and can't figure out why. Maybe your other lady can find what the difference is. Sounds like an awful lot to pay for a newspaper. Our cost $1 for the weekend paper and 50 cents for daily. I don't know what delivery is. I don't think we even have anyone that delivers in this area. Mostly, people stand on the street corner on Sundays and hawks papers and during the week people get them at convenience stores and such. Jack used to get one everyday but quit doing it for some reason. I just read stuff online. It is all bologney anyway. We never had a full family pic taken and it won't ever happen now. We tried once but couldn't get everyone to organize it to have it done. We have formal pictures taken every cruise of just us, so we use those for Christmas cards and such.
Susan: Hope you are coming along nicely with your recovery!!!
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the wind continues to blow. I ran a couple errands this morning and the wind was not blowing out here around the lake; there are a couple flags I watch to see which way the wind is coming from as I drive into town. When I got into town it was blowing pretty good, as it is out here now. Weird weather.
"Gma," many years ago I tried a tanning product when they first came on the market. I looked like I had a disease of some sort! I ordered another pair of sandals again, they are supposed to come tomorrow, no Velcro this time. Let's hope we both get lucky this time. Last month I was $.20 off on my own checking account and couldn't find it. This month it balanced, so where in the heck did the twenty cents go? I am NOT ! I'm sure the church counting mistakes are in using the adding machine. The gal who helped me last week can do the figures without looking. The one yesterday would look each time she added a number, as I have to do. I'm hoping my regular gal and I can get together before next Monday and get this past Sunday collection out of the way. I wrote a letter, hard copies, and sent them to the newspaper publisher, the editor, and the circulation manager in Sioux City. As Bob pointed out, the big shots don't care but I feel better knowing I told them why I was upset with their premium paper. We have a bet on whether or not I hear anything back; Bob says not and I think yes I will. Stay tuned!
Not much else going on in my corner of the world today. Hope you are having a good day and enjoying it!
Happy First Day of Summer! I guess it officially began during the night sometime; June is marching right along. It's dark and pouring rain at the moment, looks like evening instead of morning. I have lots I could do today since I don't have to be any where. Can't say I'm terribly motivated but need to work on clearing out more clothes. Our church is having a rummage sale in August and sells most everything, like clothes, for a quarter. I think my things are worth more than that so take things to the SOS store. They got a lot of stuff from the cabin.
I need to get busy and do something. Have a wonderful Wednesday and enjoy!
