Default Hi

My name is Lexi, and I have been trying to lose weight for the last two years. My diet sucks, I never use my gym membership, and I don't know where to begin. I have somehow managed to go from 367 to 314 in the last two years, but now I seem to be stuck, and can't seem to find the motivation to push myself any further.

Hi Lexi! Welcome to 3FC. I hope you find some information here that helps motivate you.

If the gym isn't the answer for you, do you think working out at home would be something you would do? There's so many options for that. I'm a personal fan of Jillian Michael's programs and also Beachbody programs. They have one called 21 Day Fix that addresses both diet and exercise, including having portion containers that you use to figure out exactly how much to eat. Perhaps that might be an option for you. I have been doing their T25, Piyo and yoga programs but I want to try 21 Day Fix next. It looks like people are getting great results. Other people here swear by Leslie Sansone's at home walking workouts and there are threads on here for that. If you don't like indoor workouts, maybe outdoor walking or something would be something you would like.

Motivation can be hard. I think sometimes we just have to commit, whether we feel like it or not. One thing I do is make sure to not do my grocery shopping hungry. I eat a big breakfast on Saturdays, and then head to the store. Since I'm not hungry, I make good choices and don't bring home any stuff I shouldn't be eating. Then I make myself live with those choices all week, rather than running to the store for something I'm craving when my willpower is weak. For exercise, most of the time I can convince myself to do 1/2 hour just by sternly telling myself to just start and if in 10 minutes I don't want to do anymore, I don't have to. In the past couple of years, I've only quit once after 10 minutes was up. The rest of the time I've finished my workout. The workouts I've been doing lately are only 1/2 hour long so it doesn't require as much motivation as the 1 hour workouts do.

But I also have a good group of ladies that like to go hiking or bike riding and they encourage me to go with them. Even when I don't really feel like the exercise, I've found that I do enjoy the camaraderie and social time and so a lot of times I will go. You might check Meetup.com and see if there are any local groups, or your church or synagogue or whatever where you might find like minded folks interested in exercising as a group.

you can try it:
1. Don’t use sugar product avoid all sugary foods.
2. Eating a lot of meat.
3. Reduce starch in diet.
4. Eating a lot of fiber
5. Doing exercises.
6. Consider your food about what you are eating, how many calories they have.

Hope it useful for you.

i actually love going to the gym once I talk myself into going. Once I am there I love it, and I am motivated, and before I know it two hours has passed. It's actually getting myself there that is the problem. I also have a friend that goes with me that helps. It's getting myself to get up and go the gym that I have the problem with. I will also take some of your advice into account. My diet seems to be my main problem.

Begin with diet. There are two parts of losing weight, diet and exercise, but diet is the most important.

Some diet tips:
Avoid sweets (or anything with added sugar), refined carbs, deep fried foods, and highly processed foods.
The majority of your diet should be vegetables, protein (e.g. eggs, fish, lean meats), and whole grains (e.g. brown rice, quinoa).
You can also eat fruit, nuts, and beans.

It's impossible to cover everything in 3 sentences, but if you want to post a list of foods that you eat, I might be able to give you suggestions on what to change.

If you say that you exercise for 2 hours, that might be the reason why it's hard to motivate yourself. You don't need to exercise 2 hours a day to lose weight. Maybe you can try doing some more intense exercise for a shorter amount of time. If you don't like going to the gym, have you considered exercising at home?
