Default Back again & could use some encouragement!

I had 100 pounds to lose. In 2014, I got down to 170...5 pounds from goal. And I just lost it. My weight steadily went up over the past 2 years despite constant efforts to lose. My high point was 216 lbs, almost 50 pounds re-gained.

Last fall, I got my head back in the game and was doing really well, down 12 pounds in 6 weeks. Then I had to go on antibiotics for a UTI. The doctor gave me Cipro, which killed my system. I was sick for weeks from it. Weight loss stopped cold. My stomach puffed up, I lost my appetite, and I was just miserable for months. FINALLY, with cutting sugar and super-powerful probiotics, I was slowly able to lose weight again. But slow. Six weeks on track, eating fruits, veggies, low carb, hardly any sugar or white flour, daily exercise, tons of water, and I'd lost about 5 pounds. Then I felt some of those old familiar symptoms that have no medical basis (I've had all the tests)...feeling full and bloated, no appetite. And my weight loss stopped. I felt so discouraged that I ate all day long yesterday.

I guess I'm just grieving a little because, after telling myself NO MORE FAT SUMMERS!!, I'm starting the summer 50 pounds overweight. All my cute size 10/12 clothes are in storage and I'm in a size 16 and 1X shirts. I'm discouraged about my slow loss. I'm cycling through diet plans ("Try intermittent fasting! No, try intuitive eating. But I need calorie counting. Maybe low carb....") and feeling hopeless.

I don't really have a question, would just love to hear a few words of encouragement.

I lost 100 pounds back in 2011 and then gained back about 80 of it over the years (most of it during a bad 10 month stretch of work related stress).

I tried getting my head in a place to lose again but kept elf sabotaging and giving up too easily. But I'm finally serious about it again and determined to keep on.

Regaining is easy and many of us do it. And supposedly losing gets harder ever time we regain and try to lose again. Not because we're not trying hard enough but because our bodies just are cantankerous and annoying.

There's another thread in this section - http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/100-...-relosing.html - where you'll find a group of us in the same boat you are now. Kicking ourselves for regaining and trying to lose again. Come join us!

I see from your stats that we're in the same boat! I'm getting ready to leave for a trip. I'll check it out when I get home! Thanks!

I'm starting back today and feel your pain. I have tried every diet out there, if there was some kind of diet that worked for me I think it would have happened by now. I am going back to working on the underground stuff (intuitive eating, Geneen Roth). I do use the Lose it! app and have found that it works best for me. I have given myself a pretty high calorie count so that I would lose about a half pound a week. I figure that seems more natural and isn't as likely to impair my already pesky metabolism. Who knows. Sending you mountains of support to you both!

I'm starting over again too. I managed, about 10 years ago, to lose 100 lbs. It took two years; 70 the first year and 30 the second. I wasn't nearly as close to goal as you...but I was 28 lbs from 200 and only 8 lbs from being "overweight" instead of "obese" for the first time in my life. I hit that 100 lb loss and I just lost it. It was like a switch flipped and I said, "I'm done". I kept it off for a while, but eventually gained back nearly 90 lbs. I've read old posts where I came back on here and bemoaned my starting to gain. Yet somehow I just didn't manage to become motivated to get back on track.

So here I am, 10 years later, and it's a LOT harder at 53 than it was at 43. But I'm back and I can do this. You can too. We can't erase the past and beating ourselves up over it serves no purpose. It's time to put on our big girl panties (no pun intended) and get to it.

I use My Fitness Pal for tracking my calories and Fitbit for tracking my exercise. I have a fairly high calorie count too - it's currently set at 1900 a day. I'm slowly losing, but the biggest benefit is that I just feel healthier from moving more.

Hi Frances,

I'm another regainer/reloser. I lost 110 lb between 2009 and 2010. I kept it off for two years and then regained about 2/3 during a period of stress in late 2012. Since then I've been up and down the scale a few times, but I managed to hang onto about a 10% overall loss until I suddenly packed back on the last 30 and found myself back at my high weight in January. Since then, I've dropped 20. It's a constant struggle, but what did it for me is that after being quite healthy, I started to show my wear and tear on my health with my BP edging up and prediabetic numbers. And so I'm back at it.

I know what you mean about cycling through diets, but I find that deep in my heart I know what works for me and as long as I do that I lose. I'm in my mid-fifties, so probably a slow loser, but I've still managed to drop 21 pounds since late Jan.

Welcome back!

Thanks, guys! I'm glad to be back. I was at a work convention, super high stress and super busy, for a week. As I always seem to do at these things, I grab junk for meals and snack on granola bars all day long. Two days of driving travel = fast food and candy. I come back to find a 10 pound gain. But at least I'm back and ready to get back on track. All I can do is start today!

Your not alone. I lost 97 lbs back in 2011. I went on the diet because I had a big family trip coming up to Disney and there was no way I was going to be told I couldn't go on rides with my kid. I just stopped cold turkey and one thing led to another, over eating, deaths in the family, stress, etc and I went back to my old ways and come to now where I'm back where I started. Feeling horrible and can do less things now that I could back then even when I was heavy. Joints in worse shape, limping, etc. Tried other things along the way but haven't been able to stick to them, so back to MF for a jumpstart...Just started yesterday.
