Default Starting Again and So, So Discouraged

Hey all!

I've been yo-yoing with my weight since I was 12 and had an eating disorder start. Since then, weight is a constant stress.

Two years ago I was able to be on this forum and lose 20 lbs healthily and feel great...But I've since gained 23 pounds and am the heaviest I've ever been and feeling awful and I'm back wanting to start all over.

It's such hard work to start over and I'm just feeling so bad and discouraged. What do you ladies do to get over this feeling of failure and stress?

Thanks in advance and lots of love!

I think the most important thing is to make sure that you chose a sustainable weight loss plan. If you have the tendency to stress eat, boredom eat or anything else, then you need to maybe start seeing it as a healthy change in lifestyle. Do you work out? do you live with people? are you easily swayed by the bad food choices of other people?

One of the first steps is working out where you go wrong? I know that I was a boredom eater, I also knew that I would eat more what my family would want, which was always an unhealthy choice.

Do you track your food? Like on an app?
Do you weigh your food?

Lots of different ways in which we can help you out

I don't ever feel stressed about the food I eat.... because I remind myself every day that each day is a learning day. I read a book called Mindset and muscle which is great. Once you can clear your mind of all the unnecessary stresses, then eating right becomes so much easier. If I eat something I should of.... then I wake up the next day and try and work off what I ate to prevent it impacting my weekly loss. Its about having a cheat meal and not letting it turn into a cheat weekend or a cheat week.

Thank you so much for replying! I think the main place it goes wrong is that I'm currently easily swayed by how my boyfriend eats. He can eat 5 slices of pizza and somehow have an extra ab the next sad, whereas I have extra flab. I need to start being more diligent with myself. I don't weigh my food because that tends to trigger relapses into not eating at all, which isn't healthy, either.
I did a trial workout at a boxing gym and will join on Monday (once I'm paid, haha) and my day job keeps me active as well.
I like this forum as it kind of keeps me accountable...Or it did when I was active on it two years ago. I'm hoping for the same. I had a really good food/exercise day yesterday and plan to keep it up!
Yeah, I like that mentality. Just because I messed up one day doesn't mean my whole plan is ruined! I have a wedding where I'm a bridesmaid in June and I'd just really like to be leaner for it. All those pictures and things. You know?

Hey Kahaney,

I'm in the same boat. When I was 18 I had a very successful weight loss, I was able to lose 25 lbs in just 6 months. I managed to keep that off about 3 years, but slowly gained it back and then some. I'm now 170 lbs. Which is the most I've weighed my whole life. I've tried like 50 diets I gave up on 1-2 weeks later. When I was 18 I was part of blogging community (xanga) and posting about my weight everyday seems to be the missing ingredient. I'm 25 now and definitely ready.

Let's start fresh together

The biggest lie I ever let myself believe was that I would one day lose weight once and everything would be magically different.

You're only human, weight fluctuates and yours did and thats okay don't kick yourself, you have to forgive yourself to move on.

Thank you. That's actually a really great reminder. Especially for someone with disordered thinking. I needed to hear that!

Sorry.... Been dying of the cold

I think that considering weighing food and counting calories will trigger an eating issue that you previously had, then If I were you, I would take on a fresh food diet plan. Eat foods that are as close to their natural source as possible: Eggs, Butter, fresh meat, potatoes, veggies, rice, pasta.... No packets, no pre-mades. It sounds like a very easy suggestion, but it is difficult to do it with everything. The fresher you eat, the less sugar you are probably consuming. Also do you have a fitbit or any other activity tracker? you might benefit from counting burned calories and not food.
