Good Monday morning, EveryChick! I woke at 6 and then fell back to sleep until 8. Woke to snow but not enough to deter the dogs from potty. It was just 3 inches so the deck stairs weren't drifted in. The car is in the lane and my snowbrushes are in the barn. Duh! Poor planning, Ruthie!
Our quilting biddies Christmas lunch is today and I'm sure glad I baked and froze my run cake in a moment of peace last week. I also printed off the Treasurer's Report and some other forms yesterday. I did not get around to fixing a quilt that needs some zip added to its dark and gloomy pattern but we do have a good stash of completed quilts to distribute as needed over the next month.
Not much Christmas prep will get done today as the meeting and lunch poke a huge hole in my day but I think I may have my daughter's package ready to go by mid week. (I am shopping in the city with Cousin Lisa on Wednesday and that should result in the Christmas cake my DD adores. Then I'm good to go and can focus on decorating!)
Have a busy but productive Monday but take some time for you!
Been a busy morning for me, lots of conference calls. Today is wfh for me and I have nothing on the agenda for this evening. I do need to get some Christmas cards so I can get cracking on them.
Yesterday DH went to go somewhere and his car wouldn't start so we had to jump his car and then I made him go and get his battery checked out- he replaced it so should be good to go.
Ruth sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you. I am all done with buying gifts, just waiting on a few more to come in the mail.
Just a quick check in as I am trying to try and keep it together. I've been doing a lot of soul searching and praying asking if i am doing the right thing. My son wished Mick would get to play in the snow one last time. Well I got my sign today as I awoke to a beautiful blanket of white. Both my furry babies had a hearty breakfast of eggs, pupperonis and cheese. Jim came over (lots of tears between us) with special cookies for "the boys." My friends have been calling and texting checking in. All of the love for Mick has been truly a blessing these past 17 years. The arrangements have been made for later today. Thank you chicks for your kind thoughts during this diffficult time. I am grateful that Mick's last days were spent at home surrounded with love.
Ruth, hope your busy day went off without any unforeseen incidents.
Pearlrose, the good thing about a busy workday is it flies by!
I am almost done shopping; just trying to decide on gift cards vs. cash for nieces and nephews. I'm thinking the young 20-somethings will be happy either way.
My work day was busy once I got there. The drive in was a little slower than normal since we woke to quite a flurry of snow. I think we ended up with 4-5 inches. It will all melt tomorrow but then another round comes later this week.
Woke up too early this morning but seemed to be wide awake so got up and did yoga and got ready for work and just finished my breakfast. I am going into work today has I have a training class to attend. Rain is supposed to start any second now at least I am not having to drive in snow. Nothing on the agenda this evening.
Jennifer, thinking of you today! The extreme pain of losing our loved one certainly lasts a while. Sending hugs to Coconut, too. That's why I always end up getting a second pup now. when I lose one the other seems so alone.
Beth, kudos to you for having your shopping done. Glad your snow is going to last. How far is your drive into work?
Rose, glad your DH got the car fixed without being stuck somewhere.
Ruth,Nice to hear you are sleeping better. I think I am, too. And wondering what the special Christmas cake is that you buy.
I'm on my final phase of getting ready for work. Complicated because it's so cold, the car is a block away and I have the pups taking them to daycare. I go to a Rolfing appointment afterwards so I am hauling my 5 gallon water jug, as well. I don't feel it in town because I don't have a lot of faith in our water here. It's too cold to leave it in the car overnight however. I must bring it in when I get home and it's certainly heavy. Exciting news here! Getting through these months and waiting for spring. LOL
Well, we had a great time at the Quilting Biddy Pot Luck. I managed to sneak over to the clinic and had Nurse Darlene blast the wax out of my right ear. It sure made a difference in hearing! I was home by 4 PM and realized the darling doggage had been alone for seven hours. No accidents.
Today I am off to Kingston with Cousin Lisa to stock up on a "few" things and have lunch with her. It's always a lot of fun with Lisa. She manages Paul's construction business and staff and always has a few stories to share.
Hmmm - time to make a comprehensive list. I think my gift shopping is all done - except for a Christmas cake for my DD whose parcel needs to be mailed Thursday for sure. It's gonna be tight because the dogs go to 4Paws Inn tomorrow morning and I go to Ottawa for yet another cousin lunch and will stay overnight. No more rush hour city driving for me!
Could use a little advice...Coconut won't come to me unless it is for a cookie. He refuses to let me get anywhere near him to get a leash on him. Nor will he go outside with me without the leash. I know this will take time, but listening to him cry last night really got to me. I left the baby gate open to the living room in hopes that he may follow me. He's always been quirky and stubborn. I feel absolutely horrible for him.
Ruth hope you enjoyed lunch with Lisa today.
Debbie what if you had a wagon? Could you manage the water and the pups? Maybe one or both would like to ride in the wagon with the water jug? Hopefully the project is a head of schedule.
Beth Im done shopping too. I usually just send checks to my nephews. I have no clue anymore where kids like to shop. Geesze I must be getting old.
Pearlrose way to be motivated this morning. I was up since 3:45, but just laid there as not to wake Coconut downstairs.
Left work "early" (as in, not staying and doing work for hours after the kids go) so I could manage a workout AND a few minutes of decorating. I figure if I pick off 1 item a day it will eventually get done. Today it was fake greenery and white lights in the living room.
Jennifer, thinking of you. And I have decided that in the minds of those ages 15-25 I am definitely old. lol
Debbie, other than gift cards I still am picking out my presents! DH and I just pick our own and so are assured we are getting what we want. My drive is short; about 5 miles but DH does 28 each way.
Pearlrose, good for you, getting up and doing yoga. I really do better if I exercise in the afternoon.
Thinking of Jennifer and poor wee Coconut this morning. Dogs do mourn and giving them extra attention is good for everyone. It takes time.
Did get a few things done late yesterday despite Rachel needing to print 200 carol sheets. Groceries got put away and I skipped supper in favour of cheese and somewhat healthy crackers. I am off to Ottawa shortly after I de-ice the car. The dogs will be delighted to go t0 4PawsInn and see their friends. Keith raises Nova Scotia Duck Tollers who just adore my wee two and, with my permission, he sometimes lets them join the "big" dogs in the large yard.
After "cousin" lunch, I may get a bit more "me" shopping done before going to Andrea's house for a visit. I am not going to stay with her overnight (for various reasons) but am booked into a nearby hotel ready for an early take-off Thursday morning. I hope to be home by noon Thursday - God willin' and the crick don't rise!
Jennifer, patience and extra attention even when he doesn't seem to want it. There are "rescue remedies" made for dogs. Bach makes one. A pet store or health food store maybe. If you're not already, talk with Tammy. She's always keen on things. Keep us updated.
Me, staying close to home today. It's very cold and I have to work tomorrow so I'd like to get something accomplished. First, I had to fix my keyboard. It had corroded batteries. I cleaned off corrosion and it still didn't work. Googled and it said to tap it gently. One tap on the table and it worked again. Love not buying a new one. Next, clean the carpet in living room where someone peed. Typical, glad I love my carpet cleaner. Next, think I'll head to the hot springs here, with a stop at recycle first. I've been doing some detox work and I good sweat would help. These hotsprings are old caves...segregated. Kirk and I never go together here because of that. By myself, excellent! I've found if I get there at opening I never see another human. A private cool spa. Then maybe I'll try sewing the potholders to give my sis for Christmas. She loves Paris and I have some prequilted material with the Paris theme. Sounds fun. I'll check back in.
Woke up to temps in the 20s this morning, brrr but at least no snow today. I am wfh today, we have the "winter luncheon" today but I have a conference call during lunch so I am just going to skip it. Tonight is DD2 Winter concert at school so have that going.
I didn't get here this morning. My mom had frozen pipe in her kitchen. Fortunately, she had traded a guy a pipe thawer for a mining car. lol. I just needed to figure out how to use it. Didn't work the first time but Kirk and I talked and I tightened the bolts and it worked. Then ran to Denver w/my girlfriend for a few errands and thrift store perusing. We are warming up here. Was -10 last night, 19 now and says it will be 37 by midnight. I will take it. Home now, need to eat and relax.
Rose, enjoy the concert tonight. I loved our concerts in school. That was a long time ago.
I am back after 24 hours without internet. Time Warner wanted to blame a Windows update; Microsoft said it wasn't them....After 4 or 5 phone calls over 2 nights we now have an upgraded modem hooked up and are back online. Felt a little crazy last night without it! Must be addicted.
Been checking niggles off my list; haircut today, car inspection tomorrow; I have bills ready to drop in the mailbox and a couple boxes in the car to donate to a school fundraiser. This weekend I hope to get my tree up.
Jennifer, thinking of you!
Ruth, hope you had a good visit. Did you get snow today? It missed me to the south.
Debbie, we could get that kind of cold any day now. Frozen pipes are no fun!
Rose, how was the concert?
