Default Ankylosing Spondylitis/Rheumatoid Arthritis

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have any experience with exercising with ankylosing spondylitis/rheumatoid arthritis? My husband has AS (his right hip bones, as well as part of his neck bones, have fused together), and he feels really....demotivated. His rheumatologist has said that exercise would be very beneficial for him, but he's in pain a lot of the time and can't get moving....even though it's going to help with some of that pain.

Walking and swimming would be a great place to start, I'd imagine. An extra hour of walking a day can make a startling positive change for some in chronic pain.

Water activities are low impact, so may be more comfortable.

Have you spoken to a physio or experienced rehab fitness instructor for ideas?
