Talking Steel Magnolias -- #19

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, NO wind, and it's 71 degrees! Another beautiful fall day in my neighborhood! Two nice days in a row is almost unheard of lately. I have found a new home for my old sewing machine but I had to make a path to get to it first. That was my morning project. I met the Cosmo group for lunch; we had "awful" lasagna (luke warm, no taste to it, and I only found parts of a noodle in my piece, a really fancy good tasting lettuce salad, garlic bread, and a frozen pumpkin dessert which was ok but I would never make. Oh yes, and nut cups. The program was a video from a gal who just got back from a bus tour of 12 national parks in 12 days. Lots of rock formations in the southern four state area and rather boring. Oh well . . . . . I just fed my squirrels so have four keeping the cats entertained.

"Gma," how wonderful to have your car repair paid for under the recall! We made the national news when two police officers were shot and killed in Des Moines. The low life who shot them, in ambush, had tangled with other officers earlier; they kicked him out of a high school football game for disturbing the peace and also removed him from his mother's home. A few months ago two officers were killed on the interstate by a drunk driving the wrong way. Needless to say the police force is more than a little edgy right now. Supposedly we will have a shuttle to and from the airport and ship, at least that's what we've been told. As long as the hotel is clean and no bed bugs I will be happy! Tour of Brazil made me think of something like Marci Gras for some reason.

Susan, hope you are feeling better each day!

I need to change clothes and clean out the drawers in the sewing machine cabinet. Hope you enjoy a nice evening!

Good morning to you all. Lots of work to accomplish today and tomorrow. Of course now that baseball is over I have to put up with college football all day on Saturdays.

We had to buy a new fridge but did get a great deal overall. Saved about $1100 and free delivery and set up. We did have to pay for them to take the old fridge. It will be delivered on Monday so want the house to look decent and such. We have been kind of lazy with it with my restrictions and his arm being in a cast. I still have restrictions, but I have gotten a little loosy goosey with them since the other eye will be 2 weeks out come Monday.

Jean: Ugh, sounds like an all around ick kind of meeting and lunch. You'd think they would at least have a decent lunch if you had to watch a boring presentation. I think most of the hotels offer shuttles from the airport to their hotel and a lot offer shuttles to the port though you have to pay a fee for it or have it rolled into your reservation. You can have parking for the week at a lot of hotels and you just pay a higher reservation cost. We found it was cheaper to just pay a lot and they shuttle us back and forth. We don't know what well will do next year though as it will be the first year with the scooter. I told him to drop me off and then go back and park in the lot and have them bring him back, but I can't go into the terminal until he gets there because we are tied together in our reservation and you have to have your paperwork to get into the building. I am not worried about waiting, but he doesn't want me to so we may just pay the higher rate and park right in the terminal lots. We shall see.

I need to go. I have kind of run out of time for my budget with only this month and that month so need to work on it and it takes time to slot stuff into the different paydays and such.

Good Afternoon! It's another day of sunshine although not quite as warm. There is a slight breeze so it is raining leaves in the back yard. It won't be long and I will be able to see the partying neighbors in their kitchen, and they us. I've done a couple loads of laundry and made my salad for tonight. I'm sure the hostess's lasagna will be much, much tastier than what I had for lunch yesterday! We are looking forward to the entertainment tonight; I've never heard of the group but like Peter, Paul, and Mary music.

"Gma," what kind of fridge did you get? Inquiring minds want to know! Ever since I cleaned mine it has quit making noise and frosting over on the inside. Amazing! I got the gift shop bank statement yesterday and there is a $2000+ credit card charge for which I have NO paperwork. I warned the volunteer director last month that I was getting very crabby about them using the hospital credit card and not giving me paperwork in advance. Maybe I should turn in my resignation and let them have at it! The thought has crossed my mind more than once in the last few weeks.

I need to figure out what I'm wearing tonight and put a load of towels in the dryer. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

Evening everyone. What a day this has been! Jack woke up this morning and thought, "I never added in the lip of the countertop for the width." So, it was way off the fridge I was having delivered today would not fit. We scrambled around after I blew my stack and made him cancel his rehab appointment so we could try and stop the delivery. They had already loaded it on the truck but I talked to the store manager and he was a peach. He contacted the driver and told them to just bring it back to the store, canceled the order and refunded my money. I stood and watched Jack remeasure everything, height, width, and depth, then went looking online to see what I could find in what I wanted. I wanted stainless since my stove and dishwasher are stainless, I want water and ice maker. Jack insisted on French door, but I wasn't sure we could get it for the budget I had. I finally found a GE and the only thing it doesn't have is outside water and ice. It has a regular ice make in the bottom and a water dispenser on the wall of the refrigerator inside. I saved $500 on this one compared to the other one. The only hold up is we had to order it online and have it delivered to the store then they will deliver it here to the house. All that takes time so it won't be in until the 21st. That's ok as our fridge still works, it is just the water line somewhere inside the fridge is leaking and it has gotten worse and worse. So Jack turned the water off to the fridge and we will just have to buy ice in bags until they can deliver it. No biggy. He was even able to make his rehab appointment on time so he didn't have to reschedule it. I hadn't taken anything out for dinner so we went to our favorite burger place for a late lunch and had nachos and hamburgers. I ate nachos and brought my hamburger home. I should have not ordered it I guess. I had it for a later dinner and it was fine.

Tomorrow Jack has another rehab, we have to vote, try and get our flu shot and I am supposed to call my girlfriend first thing in the morning. Commissary day got pushed to Wednesday.

Jean: Here is a picture of the fridge. They wanted way more than I could afford to spend or wanted to spend on the ones with the water outside and for just the two of us it doesn't matter. Since I already have stainless wipes I use on the other two appliances it will be easy to clean. My current white one is I guess I should say patterned. It isn't flat white and when it gets dirty you just cannot get it clean. I have tried everything to clean it and it always looks dirty so will be glad when it is gone. There are stains from Jack coming home and having stuff on his hands and there is a streak at the bottom where something dripped and stained the fridge and I have used everything from bleach to baking soda paste, to windex to every household cleaner known to man. I also bought myself a new stainless toaster that is a Cuisinart and instead of a lever it auto lowers and pops up. I bought a stainless bread box and a stainless can opener too. I am tired of trying to keep white stuff clean in that kitchen. I can use one thing to clean all the stainless now. I bought a convection oven to make toast, but frankly we would be dead and buried by the time the darn toast turns brown. It takes for ever so I decided to buy a toaster again. I told Jack I just cleaned off the countertops when we bought the shelving now I have them all cluttered up again. Ahh well. Oh man, I would be steaming if I did what you did and got a charge for that much and no paperwork. How in the heck are you supposed to rectify that pray tell? I don't blame you. I would only take so much and then tell them goodbye. You are more calm than I. I would have told them to stick their job already. Have you guys had much rain? We haven't had any rain for a long time now. I thought maybe it would rain this evening but it never did. It is nice to have great weather and pretty much everything has been harvested here except cotton and I figure even that has been picked by now. Besides, cotton love hot sunny weather I guess. I had to email Bradford Exchange and ask them what's up with my bracelet. It shows they are awaiting payment, but then never even authorized my credit card. You wonder how people ever keep customers for anything these days.

Everyone have a good evening! I am off to work on my blanket for my girlfriend. It is coming right along.

Good morning. Well today is election day. It is anybody's guess what will happen. I have my hopes of course but we shall see. We will be going out after Jack gets back from therapy.

Ok I have something that never happened before. I have an ingrown hair right at my lip's edge. I can feel the knot right at the lip. It is swollen and painful and I hope it opens up or whatever soon. I noticed a lot more fine facial hair and I wonder if it is from the steroids I am taking for the eye. Thank goodness I don't have dark hair or I would have a beard!

I looked at my bracelet status and it has moved from awaiting payment to order received. They said I would receive it by Dec 24! Geez is it that popular? I wanted to wear it to lunch on Thanksgiving, but guess that isn't going to happen.

I am sitting here writing down all the appointments for this month so I can transfer them to my Ipad calendar. I wonder if Jack knows he has a rehab appointment at 8:30 and an ortho appointment at 9:30 on the same day? Luckily they are just down the hall from each other. They have cranked up the rehab and what he has to do so he is coming home pretty sore and achy now, but it has to be done to get the thumb back in working order. When we were out yesterday afternoon I drove all afternoon because his hand hurt him. It will get better in time. I have a mammo this month, waxing, haircut and eye dr appointment. That's probably the most running around I have had in a long time. I need to make an appointment either next month or January to go into the doctor for med refills and A1C check. Now that my doctor is gone, I don't care who I see. I get tired of them leaving all the time and I have to jump through hoops to change primary care managers every time one of them leaves. It's a pain.

Well, Jack should be up in just a bit. He has a 9 AM rehab appointment this morning and I am going to sit and crochet. I noticed when I was crocheting last night the thing is starting to get heavy and bunglesome and I have a long way to go. Have a good day everybody!

Good Morning! The sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, and my yard is covered with a thick blanket of leaves. There are still lots of leaves left to fall. I was on the go most of yesterday and went to bed early, for me, last night. I was afraid I would wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep but I slept all night. I am still fighting the gift shop checkbook battle but have asked for the credit card print outs from a different accountant so maybe I can get it to balance from that. I know it is the credit card because all the checks and deposits I do all match. I took checks to the hospital, made the bank deposit, dropped books off at the library, and stopped at the grocery store for bread and milk. Bob put his order in for a roast so that will be our dinner later. I have a perm scheduled for this afternoon, not looking forward to that but it's time. The first two weeks in a month seem to be my busiest.

"Gma," it's a good thing Jack realized his mistake in time to cancel the refrigerator delivery. I made the mistake of not making our hole bigger (another thing the contractor should have mentioned) when we remodeled so will have to stay with the same size fridge or else have the cupboards cut down. One side is the pantry and I don't want to lose that space. You are brave to order one online. I have had all the different colors over the years and went back to white. I hope we don't have to replace any in the near future. I hope you get your bracelet before Christmas! I ordered Ian a sweatshirt and shorts from an NFL site with "free shipping." They promptly added $6.99 for shipping, so I shot off an email as soon as they confirmed the order. Supposedly the credit will be applied within 24 hours. I see where my favorite store will no longer match a competitor's lower price if a customer brings in the ad. I did that a couple times when the grandkids were little and I was toy shopping. I'll bet they quit taking coupons next. I try to do most of my errands in one trip but that doesn't always work. I hope Jack's therapy sessions will speed up the recovery process. We were supposed to have rain yesterday but it just got cloudy. I was #84 to vote this morning at 8:45. We didn't have to show our ID but the first check in lady is our neighbor. I wonder if any of the early voters wish they would have voted differently after all the latest hoopla.

I have to punch holes in my paperwork and make a neat pile. One of the gift shop buyers took interior decorating classes and we talked about our outdated fireplace with the 60s red brick. She said to paint it so I want her to come and look at it, then give me a color suggestion. She says I will love it! Ha ha! What if I don't?

Susan, hope you have a good day today!

Hope you all enjoy whatever you are doing today!

Good afternoon. Whew what an evening last night was. We stayed up until 2 AM. We originally started to go to bed around 9 and Jack noticed what was starting to change so we kept watching it on our Ipads. I didn't want to listen to the media dopes give their opinions on the tv stations so we did everything on the Ipads so we didn't have to listen to all that. So we have been dragging all day. Needless to say we did not go grocery shopping today. We will go tomorrow after Jack gets done with his therapy. Hopefully the commissary won't be busy when we get out there.

I am pleased with the result, but boy am I pooped. We napped some, but you know how that is when you haven't had enough sleep.

Jean: Keeping my fingers crossed about the fridge that it will work ok. We were in a tight spot with it all the way around. Pretty much everyone that handles appliances has the same things I noticed and most of them don't fit our space without ripping out stuff and we are not prepared to do that either. I sure hope they send you those receipts so you can get it cleared up. Don't you wonder how they handle their own finances if they are so loosy goosy with the hospital ones? Hope you enjoyed the roast. We opted for Taco Bell tacos tonight. I might fall asleep standing at the stove! I absolutely cannot perm my hair. It is so fine it burns the heck out of it and I don't wear my hair styled anyway. I pretty much blow dry it and then put product in it and spike it up and that's it.

Everyone have a good Wednesday. Susan: Hope you are feeling much better!

Good Evening! It's been another busy day for me. A Giving Tree program has been started at church where the different removable leaves have different prices for different needs in the church. I enter everything into a miscellaneous account and the church treasurer will have to divide it out to the appropriate account. I went to church and grouped items together so she can enter them on a spread sheet, then pay out at the end of the month. I had lunch bunch at noon and made a WM run after we spent two and a half hours visiting. Bell practice was late this afternoon; the gal who plays next to me is stuck in SC, at her daughter's, with vertigo and can't fly. The sub is really good but we practiced longer, for her, because we play Sunday. Bob offered to cook supper so we drove through Taco John's and brought it home to eat. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep, so tossed and turned the rest of the night. I'm tired!

"Gma," my dad always said he was glad the remote had a mute button when there was something he didn't want to listen to on tv. I just hope DT can turn things around for the country. At least he will try I think. I must admit I was shocked since the media favored Hillary. I wonder what she will do now, not that I really care. As far as appliances go, so many places that sell them no longer have service departments. The standard comment is to call the manufacturer, and one could die of old age waiting for them to fix the problem. I haven't heard anything from the hospital accountant regarding the credit card charges. Not much I can do without that so the books are sitting by the fireplace; I'm not hauling everything upstairs and then back down again. My goal is to clear out enough space in the computer room so I could count money there.

It's time to put the boys to bed. Hope you enjoy a terrific Thursday tomorrow, nails and craft club are on my agenda.

Good Afternoon! We had another beautiful sunny day today. I passed on getting my nails done this morning, did three loads of laundry, vacuumed the basement, and cleared off the kitchen island . . . again. I went to craft club this afternoon; there were eight of us and some shared craft things they had purchased at bazaars. It's always fun to see what talented crafters create. The dessert was apple cake with "real" whipped cream. Yum! Needless to say, I am not hungry for supper!

Bob had to have a ring repaired and the jewelry store just called to say it was ready to pick up. Stores are open tonight so will go get it and stop for a few things to make a salad for supper.

Enjoy a nice evening. Tomorrow is Fantastic Friday!

Good morning to you all. Busy day yesterday and never did get in here.

We left early and went and got breakfast then went to Jack's rehab appointment. I took my crocheting but sat and talked to a nice lady who was there waiting for her husband who had his knee replaced. When they left, they had that despicable program, "The View" on the tv. I cannot stand those women as they are bullies and racists and close minded. I sat there for a few minutes, but when I made it clear I hated that program and they didn't change it I got up and went out to the car. I texted Jack where I was and he came along about 3 minutes later. We then went out to the commissary. We figured since it was mid week, no active duty payday or retirement that it would be pretty empty. Wrong! The store was packed. We went to check out and they had self check out, express lane and one other! If we had decent shopping in this town I would plain quit going out there. We came home and put everything away and Jack sat and took a nap and I read for a bit then we headed out to have some dinner as I forgot to take anything out of the freezer and had put everything we bought at the grocery store in the freezer and it was frozen too. I drove home as Jack's wrist was sore from rehab. I do not drive at night or I didn't, but wow the cataract surgery sure changed that! I was able to see very clearly to drive and the oncoming lights didn't blind me like they used to.

Today I am going to make an effort to clean the downstairs. How does a place get so dirty with only two people?

I got my new toaster and can opener yesterday. I am irked as the can opener said it was stainless and it is plastic! The only stainless thing is the blade part. It is gray like stainless so the picture looks like it online. I kept it because we needed a new one, but I am not happy about it. I haven't tried my motorized toaster yet. It is pretty cool what it can do though.

We were supposed to get my utensil holder today, but with it being Veteran's Day I don't think there will be mail delivery so it won't get here until tomorrow. I ordered some Clinique online, but it doesn't look like it has shipped.

Jean: I am going to have to go the first of the week and get my nails done again. I can see where they are growing out. Jack has rehab Monday and Tuesday so he can just take the Mariner. Did you see the craft thing I posted on FB to hang photos? I thought that was a neat idea. I liked the one going around at the moment where you take one of those big swimming pool noodles and cut it in half and duct take the ends together to form a circle and you glue Christmas ornaments all over it and insert pine stuff etc around and glue on a bow and you can hang a big wreath for Christmas. How is the church lady going to get home from SC if she can't fly? That is a pretty long trip in a car. I can sympathize with her though. I have vertigo when we cruise and it is awful. I almost fell down the marble steps on our first cruise. If someone hadn't grabbed my arm to steady me I probably would have. I take Bonine every morning on the ship and it seems to do the trick. I find it a bit sad and amusing that the "progressive" people in this country are such babies they have to protest, shoot people, beat them up, set fire to stuff and threaten to kill people because their candidate lost. They are acting like violent spoiled children. We never did that with Obooba.

Have a great weekend everyone! I think we actually have a free one.

Good Afternoon! It's another beautiful sunny day, no wind, and cooler. I went to get my nails done first thing this morning and then we headed to the lake. Bob leaves the little fishing boat up there and decided to remove the canvas cover plus remove the seats. His reasoning was he bought a new canvas and if the snow piles high it will either rip when it freezes and thaws or leak on the seats. He also checked the leak in the roof which he thought he had fixed, and it's not. He thinks he will end up removing shingles and then put new sealer under the roofing paper, then shingles. We are still waiting to see if the neighbors decide to buy it or we have to go with a realtor. I need two $5 gift exchange items so we stopped at a little mall on the way home. There is a Penneys store there and they were having a big sale! I found three sweaters and two pair of slacks. It must have been old (older than me) ladies' day because they were the only ones shopping. There is also a big Hallmark/gift shop in that mall, with different things than our local store. Bob sat down on a bench to people watch while I went in there. Right away I found two Christmas pictures for $5.99 each, can't get much closer to $5 than that. I left my car at his office, which is close to WM, so stopped there for my oj I forgot the other day. Ian wanted an Xbox gift card and I happened to see one as I walked by so have Christmas started for him. Now I am resting!

"Gma," I don't care for The View either. I was going to offer to help Whoopie back her bags and get her on her way out of the U.S.! I will have to go look for your FB picture idea. Bob snoops on my FB which rearranges things and I don't always scroll far enough to see things I missed but he looked at. I did see your comment on my shared picture. The Deboney who made the comment is Bob's farming friend's wife -- VERY much liberal and a die hard Democrat who wouldn't give a Republican credit for anything. I did see the Christmas decorations on the pool noodle. That's a cute idea. The gal from church flew to SC so assume she will wait it out and fly home when the doctor says it is ok. She's had vertigo before so I don't know if it happens all of a sudden or a gradual thing. Have fun with your new kitchen "toys."

I need to put my clothes away; Bob suggested getting rid of the same number of items that I haven't worn in the last year. Good idea! Hope you enjoy a nice evening! I'm ready for the weekend -- going to an early church Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow night, and play bells on Sunday.

Good morning. Cool but beautiful this morning. We haven't had to turn on the furnace though, which is nice. I am going to try and get the downstairs cleaned. I worked on the blanket a lot yesterday to try and catch up. It is a very big blanket as I made it twice as wide as the pattern and want to make it around 65 inches long so it is going to take awhile to get it done. Her birthday isn't until May, but I need to work on it everyday.

May I once again say I hate the Post Office. Yesterday was a federal holiday and we assumed there would be no mail delivery so we kept the gate locked. They delivered my utensil container out at the mailbox and left it out there from 3 PM on. The fact no one stole the box was amazing to me. I have to say the utensil holder is a nice quality. It is pretty heavy and stainless steel. I am going to see if I can find a nice paper towel holder now. The one I have is cheap wood and it is crumbling at the bottom.

Jean: I hope you can sell your cabin. What are you going to do with your boat if you sell it? Are you buying another cabin somewhere else for the family? Penneys and Sears don't seem to draw anything but seniors for the most part anymore unless their sales are so big you can't not go in there. I don't like Sears at all but I have a Penneys card and do shop there in store and online. I need to go through all my clothes and give away a bunch of stuff again. I have a lot of stuff that is either too small, too big, or I hate it and won't ever wear it so I should clean everything out then maybe I would have enough room for everything. We have such small closets they hold practically nothing.

Everyone have a good weekend.

Good Morning! It is sunny, but very windy, with 28 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. I'm glad it's not snowing or we would have huge drifts. I have been doing laundry, pitching shoe boxes for shoes I no longer have, and plastic bags from ordering clothes online. Why do I save that stuff? I have it upstairs and then stash it in the spare bedroom. Dumb! I need to wrap Ian's NFL sweatshirt and shorts in case there is a last minute birthday get together. We are running out of weekends before the December football games. Also need to iron clothes for church and tonight's dinner.

"Gma," Ian's sweatshirt and shorts were stuffed in our mailbox yesterday when I went to check for mail, forgetting we wouldn't have mail delivery. It was supposed to be delivered by FedEx but in the tracking it said delivered by the US Postal. Now I'm wondering if a neighbor got it Thursday and put it in the mailbox. They were supposed to be here Monday, then Tuesday, etc. Mail delivery is always a mystery around here. I'm sure it will be really late today since we didn't get any yesterday. Good thing you saw your box! For our big boat, we can rent a spot at the marina here. Bob will probably store the little fishing boat at the farm with his tractors. The marina is expensive (we could park the boat in our driveway but then can't see backing out) and I mentioned maybe it's time to get out of the boat business. We both grew up with boats and being around lakes so that would be an adjustment. Our small lake is kind of boring after having Okoboji, which is much larger and where things are always changing around the lake. The zebra mussels have moved in so that's not good as they eat microscopic organisms that the fish feed on. The cabin location was nice because it was closer for Jason to us. We can rent a condo at the lake for much less than it costs to own up there. However, that is always the weather gamble. I just got a letter from Sears saying if I didn't use my card, they would lower my limit. Like I care. I know from experience if I wanted to make a major purchase they just raise it again; that happened when we had to replace the refrigerator at the cabin.

Susan, how are you feeling these days? Better, I hope!

The dryer should be done so need to change loads. Enjoy the nice sunny day today!

Good morning to you all. It didn't seem as chilly overnight as it has been but it is cool this morning. It is nice and sunny though and I have to get out and sweep a path to the back door so we don't drag in leaves. We want to wait until the leaves are all off the tree before getting our leaf guys out here to clean them all up. I can't handle our blower and walk too and Jack's hand is too weak to do it yet so we will just pay the guys that cleaned it up last year. The leaves are taking their time falling though.

I have to finish the downstairs this morning and tomorrow going out and get my nails done. Jack left about half an hour ago to go to his rehab appointment so maybe I can get stuff done while he is gone. I just finished sitting here paying bills. Easy in, easy out.

Jean: I bought that stainless paper towel holder and the thing was delivered on Sunday to someone else by postal. Now I have never heard that done. I guess whoever it was delivered to didn't want what was in it as they opened it then tossed it over the back gate. They had come to the front door first and knocked but I was in the bathroom and thought it was Jack as he had just gone out the back door to go to Krogers. Anyway, by the time I got to the front door they were gone so I thought it was probably next door I had heard them knocking at but when Jack got home the box was on the ground in front of the side garage door. I have several other things I am expecting and never know when the darn things are going to come anymore. I check everyday and they will say the following and then show up here the same day or it will say that day and now show up at all. I just have Jack unlock the gate and then lock it after the mail has come unless it says UPS or FEDEX is delivering. My coat should be here on Thursday but they haven't shipped my gloves yet. My yarn to make my hat is on backorder so who knows when it will come, my bracelet isn't being shipped until Christmas time and this handbag I bought says it is shipped but I can't get anyone to tell me tracking info so for now will just unlock the gate everyday. I don't think I have ridden in a speed boat more than once but have been in a row boat a few times when I was young with my dad when he would go fishing. It would be too hard for me now with my knee the way it is to even try and get into one. I have a hard enough time with a bathtub anymore.

Susan: Be well and we think about you everyday.

Well I need to get hopping and get stuff done. Have a good Tuesday everyone!

Good morning, ladies! Chilly 55 degrees and sunshine today.

I came home from rehab yesterday. Still a bit weak but much better than I was. Humana called this morning and told me they are delivering 10 frozen dinners and I'll be receiving them on Friday. They are also sending physcial therapist 3 times a week. Between the hospital and rehab, it was 28 days. I find I got a little shaky walking by late afternoon yesterday so it felt good to use my walker. I am so blessed to have good friends who took such good care of me. They even shampooed my carpets upstairs and down.

Faye, I love your coat! The hat will be lovely, too. I'd like a French door refrigerator, but I doubt I could get one to fit my space.

Jean, busy as always. I hope the church and hospital appreciate your help.

Have a wonderful day!
