Default Eating too little?

I'm a newbie - be gentle. So I've been planning the meals for my husband and I - and wondered how many calories we were actually consuming per day. It's less than 1,000!!!

That seems like a problem to me as my understanding is that our bodies need at LEAST 1,200 to just get through the day. I also teach Zumba 4x week - I'm not hungry during the day so much but more just wondering if I am missing something in there somewhere.

Typical day:
Breakfast Quiche Muffins x2
Tomato Juice 8oz

Cheesestick

3 oz chicken with mixed greens and oil dressing
sugar free jello

4 thin sliced turkey wrapped in Romaine lettuce with red pepper

Steak (3 oz), broccoli and side salad with oil dressing

.... ricotta dessert per the book but it's nasty and i won't eat it. LOL

tips? help?

Trying adding some nuts that will up your calorie count and some healthy fat and/or maybe add some dairy.

Yes, I agree. Especially if you are teaching Zumba you need more fuel in your tank for energy. Many of us make smoothies to help boost protein, add veggies to the day etc. I eat a lot of raw veggies for snacks. I like to dip them in hummus or celery with NSA PB is another go to for me. How many days are you into Phase 1?

After following South Beach for many years I recently added in counting smart points via Weight Watchers. I am rarely hungry anymore but have had a feeling I was undershooting calories one day then overcompensating the next. Unfortunately, the overcompensating would be with less than desirable foods. LOL. My hypothesis is proving to be true. I find I need to actually add in food to meet my daily points: rather than eating less. And, the scale is moving down.
