For the first time in weeks there is no Heat Alert message when I log on! Instead of that, there is a widespread rainfall warning for tomorrow into Wednesday! They certainly have been right about the Heat Alerts for sure so fingers crossed that they are about the rain.
Yesterday afternoon I ventured out behind the barn to my collapsed raised bed. Lo and behold, I have a major crop of cherry tomatoes from self seeded plants! I've not done a thing out there and can't believe they've survived the drought. They are so much tastier than store bought ones!
This morning we have a Mill Board meeting and I don't have to do a financial report for the first time in years. Sharon left everything done to the end of July. I did payroll on Sunday and put the weekly deposit into the bank machine. It's a machine that actually counts the money and prints out what denominations were gobbled up. It looks like it munched on a couple of my twenties - a problem I need to correct. I can't believe I counted wrong!
Dogs are fed and back in bed. Getting that big round bed sure was a great idea. No more tripping over individual beds, mattresses and dog toys as I try to get to the back door or the deck door in the small stove room.
I am back home sitting on my front porch drinking coffee. I drove over this morning. Already dropped off my work key to my coworker so I have an hour to enjoy before I need to leave.
It was nice spending time with the family even though my mom fell again. Fortunately nothing ER worthy. She fell Saturday afternoon and had a pretty good day yesterday. My sister is bringing her home and we will take things one day at a time.
It's first day of school for DD2, she has already left the house, DH took her to school. I am wfh today so I can take her to her Ortho appt after school. Oral Surgery went well and she had no problems with the extractions and I know the Ortho doctor will be happy it's done. Several conference calls today.
Ruth we have gotten so much rain some of our roads are closed and we have flash floods warning on our cell phones. We are not as bad as Louisiana though, got to say prayer for them.
Debbie glad you had a good time and that your mom's fall was not bad.
Pearlrose glad DD's extraction went well. The flooding is so sad. It is amazing how quickly it happens.
Debbie glad you had a nice reunion. This family photo on FB was great. Glad mom's fall wasn't too serious.
Ruth that's amazing about the tomatoes!!! Joe has sun flowers this year, not sure where they came from.
We had a nice day. Got a lot of little things done at his new house. Hopefully this weekend they will start moving in. Today I finally was motivated to ride. Thanks to my new bike seat!!!! My tooshie was very happy today!!!! My old seat was a little too thin. Well worth the money.
Tomorrow it's back to work and meetings all week. Yeah!
Getting ready to head into work this morning. It is still raining here so might need to take alternate route to avoid some flooded roads. Nothing on the agenda for this evening.
Happy Tuesday. I have been reading about the flooding in the Southern USA - horrible stuff! Shades of Katrina! We are still under severe rain watch but nothing has happened yet. The map shows the storm just south of us so we should be getting a soaker by late morning. I am hoping we don't lose power although that would be a good test of my generator. We may see green grass again before fall!
Not sure what the day will bring. I am hoping to spend time on the front porch putting binding on a quilt and watching the thirsty plants and trees glug down the water. That's the plan anyhow ... as long as Life doesn't throw me a curve ball.
Back from a trip to Long Island to deliver DS2, or rather a load of his stuff, to the apartment for this year. He got my parents' old-new car and drove down Saturday. DH and I went overnight Sunday-Monday. School doesn't start for 2 weeks, but the team starts practice next week and he is helping out with a youth sports camp this week. That's a long drive.
Ruth, we had about 2" this weekend and it is raining now. Our area is dry but not as dry as yours. Enjoy your porch time.
Pearlrose, glad DD is doing well with the extractions.
Debbie, glad you had a nice reunion. How's Mom doing? I can't remember, does she live alone?
Jennifer, hot day for a bike ride! I couldn't believe the temperatures I saw Sunday going through the Big Apple. At one point my car thermometer read 102*!! Glad Joe's place is finally ready.
Not sure what is on my agenda today. It's probably time to inventory my clothes and shoes to see if I need to replace anything before school starts.
We are seeing a bit of a break from rain for now but it is cloudy at there, gives everything a chance to dry up a bit. Wfh today, I have lots of reports to run and a couple of conference calls. DD2 has art class this evening and that is it for our agenda.
Beth glad DS is settling in for the year in his apartment, what year is he in college now?
Ruth hopefully the rain will spread out for you all as well.
Wakey, wakey! It's Wednesday! We are well watered for now and expect more on the weekend. However, we are back in high humidity although sleeping last night was great. I actually thought the bat had returned but it was the wind blowing the curtains over my bed.
My DD is finally coming for a visit at the end of September - after the September wedding and before the October one. Really looking forward to our one-on-one time. I'm flying her here on AirMiles - may as well use them up before they expire. Spent a frustrating afternoon yesterday trying to book online but will have another coffee and try again. I can always ask Techy Heather to book for me, although that will make me feel really old.
Haircut in town is on today's agenda and I may take a look at fall clothes if there are any. This month has been way above normal temperatures as was July. Another Green Christmas this year?
My DIL just messaged me on FB - she's wanting puppy advice so I'd better be a good MIL and get back to her.
Hi
Pecking on my phone from orthopedic office. Today will find out status of moms wrist. I had to really push through this am to get some of my stuff done as well as moms. I did plan ample time for coffee.
Sitting outside in the dark enjoying coffee. Mom does not need surgery but we were at the appointment it seemed like forever. I don't have your appointment today for some type of a steroid shot that helps her hip. I'm going to finish painting a big dresser before the light comes and try to get a little yard work accomplished before we go.
My cup is almost empty I think I'll go find more. Have a great Thursday everyone!
Had a good day yesterday getting things done - haircut but no dress shopping mid-day, some things at the Town Hall prepping for the weekend event and then finally surrendered the online battle to book tickets on Air Canada. I gave it up, called a charming AC agent and had the whole trip booked, paid and confirmed in fifteen minutes.
Today we are heading into another stretch of tropical weather but then we should get back to "normal" . Since the AC has been running almost constantly, I was expecting a huge bill but it was up just a bit from this period last summer. I'm talking usage, not dollars.
I can't believe school starts in August in the USA - we wait until Labour Day. Beth, I hope your DS does OK with cooking for himself. In his first year at Queens, my brother developed scurvy from eating only smoked meat sandwiches - the boil in the bag meat!
Debbie, sure hope your mother's wrist heals quickly. Things heal much more slowly as we get older.
Pearlrose, i hope your DD is doing well with the extractions and your WFH day went well.
I am having a WFH day today since I will be busy and out of the house most days on the weekend. I have a Township Council Member coming at 8:30 today to pick up some papers. She also wants me to run for council in 2017 - I'd rather stick pins in my eyes! She has a 9:30 meeting so won't be here long. Then I hope to tackle the studio/sewingroom mess which always manages to sneak out of my control. I need to make some decisions about half-finished quilts. "Finished is better than perfect." And there's always perennial flowers to cut back! I think I need staff!
Have a Thankful Thursday - I'm thankful to have some time today for niggles.
Debbie, glad to hear your Mom doesn't need surgery. Have a productive day.
Ruth, teachers go back on Sept 1 but the kids don't come until after Labor Day. I will probably work most of the week of the 29th getting myself organized. As far as DS2, at least he take vitamins so maybe that will hold off the scurvy!! He still has a meal plan for commuter students so he can get lunch and snacks on campus.
Pearlrose and Jennifer, hope your work days are going well!
I'm thankful this Thursday that both of my parents are doing much better than last month. It is hard to switch roles and let the kids parent.
