Default I have no idea what I'm doing

Hey!
I'm Brittany, I'm a 27 year old mom of one and my lifelong struggle with weight is finally something I can't accept anymore. The thought of leaving this world much too young because of my weight and leaving my daughter behind makes me sick to my stomach. I want to change, I want to lose weight and I want to be healthy. By no means do I want to be 95lbs but I do want to lose weight to give my daughter the mom she deserves.
I weigh 258 lbs and I need to be around 180lbs (give or take 5 lbs). I have absolutely no idea how to do it; I feel overwhelmed and lost. I was raised in a "fat family" so carbs, nutrients and fats were never something I was properly educated on.
I do not have a support base or anyone in my life who understands what I want to do.
It's great to "meet" everyone!

Start small. Pick something unhealthy in your life and get rid of it. Maybe it is sugar, or soda, or potato chips. A super easy way to look at it is "would I give this to a 2 year old?" if not, you probably don't need it either. Drink lots of water. Start walking. It doesn't have to be all scary science and passing out in the gym. Baby steps will get you there. Then as you progress you can branch out and learn more about the science. Good luck!

Hi Brittany! Welcome! I'm pretty new here too - and new again to the weight loss journey.

It seems like this is a good place to be if you need a support network of people who understand that you are trying to get your health back on track for the long term. You are lucky: you have youth on your side! Now is the time to get your health in check so that you can live a long life for your daughter. Plus learning about nutrition will be good for you and great for her.

Anyway, know that you have made a great decision to improve your life. Best of luck!!!

Consider joining something like WW where you have a support group and accountability every week. It will help start you on the right path. You can do this!

Hi Brittany,
I'm Nadia, and I think MonteCristo gives some great advice - I lost about 60 lbs in 2009 with the help and support of this site and at the time I had ZERO knowledge about how to become healthier. Starting with small, measurable changes helped me see my first successes towards becoming healthier and once I started to get excited about my progress I started to get more interested in the "scary science" part too - I even started taking free nutrition classes online. I'm back here now after a couple of very scary years where I didn't always have enough money for food, let alone healthy nutritious food - and its a sad fact that its very difficult to be healthy and poor at the same time. Now that I'm back I'm soooo excited to have all the positive energy that can be found on this site. Its a pleasure to "meet" you - I'm sure your little one is adorable and will give you all the motivation you need to keep going
