Default When the things that are supposed to help become the problem...

After the birth of my second son, about 3 years ago, I went through post-partum really badly and when he was about 5 months, a divorce. My depression and anxiety sky-rocketed from that point forward. About a year ago I decided to go on some antidepressants. I explained to my doctor that I have a very sensitive reaction to hormones and medications, and can easily gain weight when on them. (I gained 30lbs seemingly overnight when I went on the pill at 17) He assured me it would be fine. Well, long story short, we have not been fine. The weight has crept up over the last year and has become the point of my depression and anxiety. I recently stopped the medications that I was on, and am hoping to gain control back over my weight and my well-being!

Hi Sunflower! I'm new to 3FC, so I just wanted to say hi.

It sounds like you have been through an awful, awful lot. Depression, anxiety, the stress of a newborn, post-partum, a divorce then on top of that gaining weight, it all seems so unfair when you're just trying to do your absolute best. It seems such a terrible unfairness that our bodies seem to betray as at the times we need them most or that the drugs designed to help often have other side effects!

I just wanted to say how hugely impressive it is that going through everything you're going through, you are still asking for help and actively trying to get yourself into a position of wellness - not everyone could do that, and it is an indication of huge strength on your part. I know how uncontrollable depression and anxiety can feel, and trying to take control of that is what makes sufferers such absolute heroes in my eyes.

I wish you every success with your journey to a place of calmer more controlled well-being.
