Default How much can I realistically expect to lose with this diet ?

I know that everyone's body is unique, and that there is no one size fits all where weight loss and diets are concerned. My goal is to control my blood sugar, lower my LDL and lose 70 lbs. It all seems like a very tall order at this point and I would deeply appreciate advise / feedback.

If I followed the diet SCRUPULOUSLY, did not cheat, and walked about 20 minutes a day (that's the max I can do at this time without losing my breath), how much can I optimistically lose in Phase 1 ? And how much can I expect to lose overall in the coming year ? Is 70 lbs too much to lose ?

Help !

Pattana - I don't think you'd have an issue at all.

This "diet" is a lifestyle change. Since changing to it, I eat far, far better than I have in my life. Kale? Lentils? You've got to be kidding me! Now I adore them. SBD is basically healthy eating. Phase I long term is not healthy, since it has no grains or fruit, but some with a lot of weight to lose will do it a bit (1-2 weeks) longer. It does take commitment and prep, but after a while it becomes second nature and you learn a lot of short cuts.

Some phase I people lose 15 lbs. I lost 5 (I had 20 to lose). It depends on how much you have to lose, if you were truly committed, and just the way your body is. If I were you I wouldn't be surprised if you lost 8-10 lbs, but also not surprised if you lost more. But don't forget, it's mostly water weight from cutting out the grains, not true weight loss.

Seventy pounds is completely doable. Look at Lexxiss' (Debbie) profile, and she maintains well. There's some others, past and present, if you poke around. BUT, it will some work and definitely commitment. And you need to stick to phase 3 when you reach maintenance, because switching back to your old eating style won't work.

Oh- my hubbie had some bad bloodwork (triglycerides of 450 amongst other things), and I happened to be on phase I at the time, so dragged him in with me . His bloodwork the next month - Trigly of 90!! Your body will love you

Good Luck!!

I concur with everything Tammy wrote. I lost 12 pounds during P1. In P2 some weeks I lost nothing and others maybe 2 pounds. My eating prior to SB consisted of a lot of fast food, pre packaged meals and other unhealthy stuff. You don't need to be perfect with SB, none of us are in anything we do in life. SB is not a quick fix, but a lifestyle that with some work can be easily enjoyed. I am amazed at how many new foods I enjoy. Quinoa, beans and all types of squash.

One of the biggest changes I see in myself is the amount of energy I have. I no longer reach for a little something sweet to pick me up. Every positive change helps to build a healthier life going forward. Reading the book is a must, helps to make sense of everything. The support here has kept me on track and picked me up when I needed it. You can and definitely will lose weight with SB. Good luck.

Pattana when I first started on SB I lost 32 lbs, since then I have gotten older and when I hit 45 years old I really started struggling with my weight and gained all of weight back over the course of 5 years. I got even heavier than I was when I first started. I decided it was time to get healthy again last year because I want to be able to reach 90 years old with not a lot of health issues. Since August of last year, I have lost 47 lbs and it has been by eating completely on plan not doing any crazy diets. I did have some days or weeks where I was not completely on plan but this is a way of life.

I still am planning on losing another 30 more lbs and that would put me way past the goal I reached the previous time.

I concur...it depends on how serious you are about changing your way of eating, permanently!

I have been on the SBD for 18 months and have lost 60 pounds. I am hoping for another 20 to be at goal by September.

I've committed to it, so I am serious about it and I feel so much better. Even on the days the scale says otherwise!
