Another long weekend for the American Chicks. We don't have one until Family Day in mid-February but I think it's the same weekend as Presidents Day so we'll all be off together.
I refuse to drive to the border with coffee for you this morning as we are sort of iced in. The silly old lady who lives here forgot to put the car in the barn last night. (I am considering kicking her out as she keeps losing things too!) I usually have good luck starting the car with heaters and blower on but it looks to ma as if the doors are frozen shut so it'll be hair dryer time. Never mind, I can just stay indoors until spring since I have a large bag of dogfood and a freezer full of meat and veggies.
Yesterday's dryer installation was interesting. Willy was here by 9 and didn't finish until noon. Everything was a really tight fit and we wondered at one time if we'd have to take off the door frame to get the old machine out. He persisted though and got it in place and completely redid the vent. (The old one was plugged and would eventually become a fire hazard.) Anyhow, it's a great (and quiet) machine and supposedly energy-efficient. It should last me another 30 years. He checked my washer (younger machine) and told me it will last too. He reassured me that he could fix any Kenmore washer.
So today depends on whether or not I get the car de-iced. There is really nothing vital to get but I do hope for a run into town for that binding fabric. On the other hand, I won't be ready for it until next week ...
I can hope today's machines last 30 years Ruth, but I honestly have my doubts. My FIL still has his freezer from....good grief, I dunno, the 60's? They certainly don't make them to last anymore!
BTW - the best gift my DH ever bought me was my remote starter for my car (besides my wind chime, of course ). Well, well worth the investment, I think mine was around $200, and that included installation (through Best buy). Would that help you out Ruth?
For me - I dunno! Saturday is our clean up day at the house, I think I get to direct . I do need to get a few groceries, if I can brave the store on a Saturday, and look for a recliner too. We'll see what the day brings .
Tammy, I do have a car starter but never remember to leave the heater and defroster turned on. Duh! Besides, if the doors are frozen shut it would take a very long time to get them open. Once I turned the heater and blower on to melt windshied ice and when I went back the doors were iced again! Putting the car in the barn would have been the best solution.
Ruth just stay put! It's not worth getting hurt if it's icy out. Besides the doggies want mama home for cuddle time. No long weekend for me sigh unless I burn a vacation day.
Seems like my life is stuck in a rut. I seem to hit rewind and repeat daily lol Today I want to download viedeo from an incident last night. We did nothing wrong, but I have a feeling a civilian complaint is coming our way. He was an intoxicated, defiant combative senior. We held him after he broke a pay phone and could not provide identification. Officers decided, and I agreed, he needed medical attention as his behavior was simply put bizarre. It took 2 hours for the ambulance to arrive. Somedays to t is really bad waiting for an ambulance since he wasn't considered a priority. Well he threatened to sue the medics and since he was oriented to time and place they couldn't make him go to the hospital. This is just one of the many frustrations we have to deal with.
Hopefully today will go smoothly lol. It is mild, but rainy so maybe people will stay home....wishful thinking.
Hi Tammy you snuck in on me....hope you find the perfect recliner...have fun directing the house clean up. I only get to direct myself. Although DS has been really good about keeping up with his room.
Good morning, chicks. I slept until 7:30 today which seems like a real indulgence compared to that 5:30 am alarm.
Ruth, did you see the pictures going around this week of the car parked by Lake Erie in Buffalo?? Google "Buffalo ice car" and check out the pictures!! Congrats on the new dryer and may it serve you well.
Tammy, enjoy being the boss today. I think I will be the cleaning crew at my house today.
We also have freezing rain/sleet/snow mix this morning but I don't have anywhere to go. I think I will sip my coffee a bit longer and see if there is some motivation in the bottom of the cup.
I slept in til 7 a.m. sure felt good. Today I need to clean house and am going to try and go to Ikea store want to get storage that might sub as steps up to loft bed rather than using ladder- need to go look at first to see how sturdy it is.
Ruth I would stay inside not worth the effort to have to blow dry your doors open. When I buy a washer or dryer I have to measure to make sure they will make it through openings that are rather small.
Tywnn hope you get everything accomplished today
Jekel I do not get Monday off either bummer. Hope work goes smoothly for you
Early good morning. Jazz whined me awake at 5 ... not a potty emergency - he just misses me. Silly to have separation anxiety when you are nearly eight years old but ...
Plugged away at my desk until mid-afternoon yesterday and then tackled the car problem which was no longer a real problem since it was above freezing by then.
Joanne dropped in late afternoon and we decided to have a glass of wine together. Unfortunately the only white that was chilled was a bottle of bubbly. Jo opened it and then dropped the bottle. It hit the floor standing straight up and was quite a sight as it turned into a geyser and shot as high as the ceiling. What a mess! We laughed a lot mopping up and then decided on a cup of tea! The floor is still a tad sticky today but I'll mop it again a bit later.
I'm hope today is not as exciting. The plan is to start laundry, do the floor and then tackle a financial report for tomorrow's Board meeting which is here - too bad because I was planning to do my report, announce I would be leaving and then sneak out. Maybe I can burst into tears and go to my room!
Ruth, your life sure is exciting!! I can only imagine the mess the champagne made. I'm glad you could laugh at it. And the idea of "bursting into tears" sounds like great drama. Glad your car was able to thaw.
Yesterday I packed up decorations, took a walk and roasted a turkey breast. DH saw one on sale at the store and brought it home; it's nice to have a couple dinners and lunch meat ready. Today I must do a little laundry.
Oh Ruth that must have been a sight!!! Thanks for the laugh first thing in the morning. Definitely burst into tears and storm off. Such drama I love it!!! lol
Laundry is going and so will I soon. Need to pick up my groceries. I did manage to clean upstairs before work yesterday so only the downstairs needs attention. Tomorrow I plan on giving the pups mani pedis and a little grooming. Having dinner with Joe and his DS. He is switching majors, he really doesn't know what he wants to be, but it taking a criminal justice elective. Joe wants me to talk to him about my career.
I think I'm going to turn the heat up. For some reason I just can't warm up yet.Have a great day!
I'll take one Beth! You had a productive day! I love the smell of turkey in the oven. I haven't made one in quite some time. Maybe next week. This week I'll roast a spaghetti squash and enjoy with turkey meatballs. I have stuffed peppers in the freezer and soups. I love only cooking big a couple of times a month and having good thing to eat throughout the month.
I will take that cup of coffee! And thank you! Just got finished looking up the Buffalo ice car. Pretty funny.
I've been playing online sudoku this morning procrastinating diving into the paperwork. Oh well. Now it's too late to start LOL. I traveled over yesterday the passes were bad everything else was fine. Kirk texted me this morning at 4 AM to say they got 10 inches of snow and it was still snowing. Glad it's not me having to shovel. We got nothing....yet.
I hope work speeds by. I just like to get home and rest. The boss is going to give me crap this morning because he texted me yesterday at 7:30 asking where I was. I wasn't on the schedule and apparently some miscommunication led him to believe I was going to work both Saturdays, when in fact I only agreed to one. I would have if someone would've let me know. Kind of hard to commute to and a half hours, though. The boss is a guy who always has to be right so it should be interesting.
I guess I should start making my smoothie, too. Have a great day everyone!
It's snowing here nothing major though but sure is Chilly 10 degrees outside today. I did clean the house upstairs and downstairs (did more than usual since DD2 has been cleaning downstairs was very light so could really tackle the upstairs).
We went to Ikea that sure is a popular place it was very packed still had to go park in overage parking to get a spot. I would have ordered it online but really needed to look at and it saved me $16 on shipping. We did purchase it and put it together last night and DD2 room is 3/4 done now. Just one more corner to go through and her room is done.
I will probably just take it easy today since my back is letting me know I did too much bending over yesterday.
Ruth thanks for the visual of the geyser of champagne, glad you all were able to laugh it off.
Beth I looked up the frozen car too, wow what a sight
Jekel I have a butternut squash I think I might cook that for lunch today. My DS was a criminal justice major, he now works for the DA office in St. Louis.
Debbie I hope the boss doesn't give you crap since it wasn't your fault.
