Default Newbie - this is day 1

Hi Everyone! I am finally taking control of my life and I am hoping that this forum can help support, motivate, and enable me to truly be in control! I have failed before and always been overweight. Currently, I am starting at 300lbs. I am 5' 2" and age 27, so I have 150+ to lose! This number is scary and I am trying to look at the small picture every day instead of thinking about how long this journey will take.

My doctor is monitoring me and I just purchased a FitBit, which seems pretty cool to help me track my progress! My goal is just to move more and I am starting with 1/2 mile walks daily. My 2nd goal is to cut out the sugar - I am a soda addict, junk food queen, and I love sweets.....but now, I need to learn its all in moderation!

I am a newlywed and my husband and I both have lots to lose. We are not active right now, but we already are making a bucket list with things we want to do and have never been able to do because of our weight. We hope to go skydiving and underwater diving!

I am looking for this forum to keep me accountable and motivated - if anyone out there can offer advice, or just keep me in track please let me know! I am excited to start day 1!

Welcome!!! The forum is a bit quiet right now, I myself just got back yesterday from a couple of months long hiatus. It should pick up again, though! The most active conversations tend to be in the topic threads.

The threads at the top are a great place to start in your weight loss journey, and we're here for support whenever you need it.

Hi from another 5'2" fibitter!!

I started (this time) at 238 on June 1st, and today am 170.8.

I've given myself a calorie budget of 1,300 a day, and Definitely have found the fitbit a great encourager. This month I've stepped things up, and committed to walking at least 10k steps a day - but for most of the time since June, I've been pleased to make 5k, with occasional higher spikes. It seemed incredible on Day 1, and for many, Many days after it, that I would start to enjoy walking and adding to my step totals but it's finally true!

Good luck with your journey!

Hello from a 5'2" Garmin Vivofitter! (close, rt?)

To use Rosinante's verbiage, I started (this time) at 217 at the beginning of December and am at 211.
Last time, a few years ago, I started at 240 and got down around 185ish after about a year.

Those are some great steps in the right direction!! My husband and I just celebrated out 1 yr anniversary, so I'm kinda in the same boat as you... only my husband is in denial about gaining weight since HIGH SCHOOL. Over 10 years ago. So needless to say, at home I'm kinda on my own when it comes to losing weight at home. He eats what I cook and then decides he's still hungry so goes rummaging in the kitchen for more. Sigh.

I love your bucket list idea! I actually just won a work drawing for an 'indoor sky diving experience' at a place in KC... it should be interesting, but apparently they have a weight limit. I'm a little too close to comfort for it, so I'm going to wait a few months and hopefully be well below by then.

How have your first few days gone?

Hi I am new too. Just remember baby steps. you didn't get to where you are overnight and it will take time to get to goal. focus on how you feel.

Hi and welcome.. I too returned to this forum and commitment to health a few weeks ago. I have always found this place to be a great source of support. Love my Fitbit! Keeps me aware of how much I am moving and what goes in my mouth. Both of which I am in control of! This takes time... A day or even a minute at a time...
