Just started Optifast 800 - anyone try this?

  • Hello everyone:

This is my first post here. I just began a medically supervised weight loss program. Doc has put me on essentially a liquid diet for the first part part (active weight lost part) of this program. I am pre-diabetic (A1C is 6.1%), BMI 33. My goal is to lose 50 pounds. I am also taking Metformin.

I am hanging in there (lost 10 pounds my first week!), but this is tough, even though I really want to succeed. How do I psychologically change the way I think about food? How have you guys done it? This is all for nothing if I don't change the way I think about food. I want the results, and I am battling through the diet because I want the results (the most important of which for me being better health and heading off diabetes, which runs in my family).

I signed onto this forum because I'm trying to tackle this obstacle psychologically, too, and am hoping for help, support, inspiration - anything!

Can anyone else share their experiences with Optifast (pros, cons, struggles)? How much weight did you lose, were you able to keep it off, how far into the program did you plateau, etc.?

Can anyone give me advice on how to psychologically stick to this? I want to live a long life.

Anyone's thoughts would be so appreciated!

    Lisa
  • Hi Lisa! I have my weigh in #3 tonight, beginning week 4. Week 1 was definitely the hardest, but it gets easier and pretty mindless as the days progress! I lost 5.8 week 1, then 6.4 week 2. This past week was my TOM and according to my scales at home, i think I will be down about 1-2 pounds tonight. Pretty disappointing, but I'm betting it will be back to normal for next week. Hows it going for you so far?
  • Hi Lisa and Tammy! I'm hoping for some support as I begin my Optifast Journey today! Are you still on the program? I would love to hear about your success!
