Default The Weekend - August 21st and 22nd

Coffee is warming me up this 54ºF morning and the promise is for a 79º afternoon for Rob & John's BBQ. I did get the rum cake made and glazed late yesterday afternoon and even remembered my cake plate is at the Town Hall. It's bread run morning so I'll pick it up when I deliver the bread.

Book Club was good down at the Lake although several people were off on vacation. (Why anyone would leave the Lake in the summer is beyond me. ) Terri and Ernie are off to their Cape Breton house until Thanksgiving. While they are gone, I am checking their house which is for sale but not moving fast. I think half the houses in the Village on the market these days as our population grows older.

Time to start moving around a bit and do some kitchen clean-up that got missed in the rush to get to Book Club last night. I was just too darned tired at 11 to do it then!

Have a lovely day!

Ruth you certainly have long, busy days! Glad you did not have to re-make the rum cake. Another bread delivery? You certainly have willpower! Glad you enjoyed the book club.

Nothing new or exciting here. I may take a little nap after DS goes to work. The extra hours covering are catching up to me.

Looks like a really nice weekend, so enjoy!

Good morning, chicks. Had an enjoyable day yesterday: walk in the morning, garden puttering in the afternoon and DH made burgers on the grill. Didn't quite get to those tomatoes so I will have to do that today. I mainly want them for chili and stews so I may rough chop them and just freeze them. I may also make some salsa.

Ruth, I would offer some willpower for the bread run but I'm not sure I have much. Enjoy your BBQ today.

Jennifer, a nap sounds like a great idea. Does your boss come back soon so you can return to normal hours?

Not sure what is on my agenda today. Maybe garden time, a walk, and tomatoes. I am trying to savor my last few days of vacation. (I know, I know....no one feels sorry for me since I have the whole summer off...)

Coffee anyone??

Good morning chicks!

Ruth, how bout all the chicks pitch in to buy a house in town so we can all visit you? That sounds like a grand idea to me!

Jennifer - hope you get some rest today

Pearl - sorry about your colleague. I hope you get some restful down time this weekend.

Beth - Mmmm, homemade salsa sounds delightful. I've made peach salsa too - O. M. G.!!

It's a nice quiet weekend, since my family is off in NC without me. They're probably having their fried seafood dinner tonight, I still fantasize about those scallops! For me though - no plans. I think I might go over to one of my favorite places (millbrook marsh) and take a little walk. Otherwise a whole lot of nuttin'. I will avoid campus, since it's move in weekend. No campus, no stores, no groceries...heck, even avoid the roads!

It is an absolutely beautiful day here!

Good morning, chicks.

DH is staying with his mom, just released from rehab, so I have the house to myself. I used to love that but now I actually miss the guy!

I worked yesterday and am back at it this afternoon. Still doing shifts at the
other location until the new store is ready for us to set it up later this week. Tomorrow all the new hires have a product training session starting at 7am. Eek.

Have a great weekend.

Karen, glad MIL is home! 7 am on a Sunday? Thought only I did that.

Pearlrose, yay for early morning chores! Enjoy soccer!

Jennifer, hope you get your nap in! (Me, too)

Ruth, 11 pm is way too late....for anything, more less cleaning!

Twynn, good idea on the house!

Beth, yay for tomatoes! Fresh mango salsa is my favorite! Good idea....think I'll grill a burger for dinner.

I have been up just not very chatty. Truth....I started a puzzle several days ago and I get obsessed. Now it's time to get my chores done but not before making a smoothie....I have been drinking coffee far too long. Sad about the "state of my family" today...missing DH and sick of yard work. Lawns need mowing today since I head back to work tomorrow and I'm going to see if I can get some weeds pulled, too.

Have a great Saturday!

Good morning (made it with a few minutes to spare). I've been awake since 3 a.m., though not by choice. It's going to be a long afternoon.

We are heading out for another three-day camping trip Monday night. In the meantime I am in full-on garden, dehydrate, can mode It looks like I might start working again soon. I was hoping to be home until October, but there's an offer on the table that might be too good to turn down in the short term. I also really need my own insurance sooner rather than later. DH has awful insurance (and works at a hospital. Figure that one out!) For now I am just getting as much done as I can.

Ruth - The lake does sound too nice to leave. Hope it's a sunny day there too

Jennifer - happy napping! I should try that later too but I am a terrible napper.

Rose - hope the afternoon holds a little relaxing time.

Beth - I slow roasted a batch of tomatoes this morning. I like to freeze them that way for easy winter meals and the house smells so good!

Tammy - enjoy your peaceful weekend

Karen - hope things settle down soon work-wise. I like the house to myself, but only for a few hours at a time. It's too quiet at night. Well, not really quiet with the dog and cats, but you know what I mean.

Debbie - I showed Tim a pic of your greenhouse. I am experimenting with a cold frame bed this fall but really hope to have a greenhouse soon. I hope the day brightened up.

Okay, guess that's enough sitting. I roasted tomatoes, loaded 10 trays in the dehydrator, and did laundry. Now for a few errands and some herb picking and freezing. I am trying to decide if I should start any ferments now or wait until I am back from camping. I hate to waste time, but don't want them to go bad.

OK you chicks are making me feel like a complete load. lol I napped and have done nothing more. Debbie when does Kirk come home? I'm sure he misses you too. DS is out more than he is in. My new hours doesn't give me much alone time at home which is probably for the best. It is easy to sink into a little funk from time to time. Hope your day gets better

Jennifer You really, really needed down time to recover. Why would you think less time at home is better for you?

Tammy Ohhhh h h h Scallops? Now that would have really tempted me.

Cindy Hope the job offer is truly what would suit you. Ouch that your husband's job in the medical field has lousy insurance.

Debbie Here is a prayer that peace may reign, and friendship flower, too.

Great morning with our middle adult daughter. Like Ruth it was 54deg out this morning and by time we went for a good walk in the low 60's. Perfect fall feeling type of weather that I'd take year around!!!

Good Sunday morning and I've made a huge pot of coffee - just kidding because I am drinking Paul Newman from my K-cup. (I must dig out my large coffeemaker and get some regular coffee for company.) d

Had a great time at the end-of-summer party late yesterday afternoon - not a crumb was left from the rum cake. John and Rob have been doing this for at least 14 years. I have pics from way back then and some of the highchair set are now all grown up. No babies there yesterday but it was great to see the changes. Everyone brought some food and there will be recipes exchanged as usual.

Not sure what today will bring except I know a trip to Staples should happen since the office printer is out of both black and coloured ink. I hate shopping on Sunday but we are trying to print a small bread cookbook and I have just one more week with full staff.

Weather looks good for the next week so my AC won't be working overtime. This morning the house actually feels like it needs heat - time to dig out fall clothes? Sure hope not but it's great not to have that oppressive heat.

Enjoy your Sunday and have a coffee and a bit of a chat before you start your day officially.

Good morning! We were up and on our way to Cape May by 5am yesterday, so I didn't get the chance to check in here first.

It was a perfect beach day and Jake and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and ended the day with a lobster & clambake before driving back home. I can never get enough of the beach and am looking forward to my vacation in 3 more weeks when I get an entire week of beach time.

This morning is church, groceries, and I'm going to follow Cyndi's idea of slow-roasting a batch of tomatoes to freeze. Usually I just pop them, whole, into the freezer. I'll also be loading my dehydrator with a batch of them.

It's going to be a gorgeous day, and I plan to spend some time relaxing and reading on the patio, too.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Good morning!

I had a great day yesterday and officially slept in this morning! I enjoyed my 1st cup of coffee outside. I always feel so great on Sunday morning because blonde who is freshly mowed and i've officially taken care of everything I could take care of for the week. My smoothies made and I just remembered I don't go to work until seven on Sunday so I have an extra half hour to work on my puzzle.

Jennifer, you asked when Kirk is coming back yesterday. Well it's complicated. He was over for three days this past week but he's not much motivated to be over here these days. I will qualify that life truly is more fun over on the other side but he and my mom and sis got into a tiff the end of March and haven't had much interaction since. I used to travel back-and-forth all the time but with my pup being in final stages of congestive heart failure the two extreme altitude changes going over and back and the fact that it's much hotter over there make Bing pretty uncomfortable and he has episodes where I think it's the end. He does so much better over here with the big house and big yard and cooler temps. I had made a commitment to do a big change around in this yard this year which keeps me busy and I've been going to codependents anonymous meetings to help focus on myself and keep my sanity. I think DH has some depression from the unfortunate events with his daughter this year. She is still living on the streets in Denver doing drugs and just left her two babies behind. I'm doing OK. I absolutely decided several months ago that I was not going to regain my weight because my family was all messed up. I like My new life and besides I need to work right now and my job depends on my being fit. We've been married 27 years. I believe we will get through this. It's just hard sometimes.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Good morning another beautiful one to enjoy!

Ruth I avoid shopping on the weekends too. I'm going to make due until tomorrow. I plan on going right after dropping DS at work. Less people to contend with.

Love2garden less time at home means less time of mindless eating. I still struggle with it when I'm alone especially in the evening.

Linda sounds like you had a great day. I gave t been to Cape May since I was little. We didn't go anywhere in the summer as we lived 5 minutes from the ocean and beach. I do miss it at times.

Today I am going to cram in all the the chores I can. I'm going to go for a bike ride but late in the day when the path isn't too crowded. Nothing thrilling by any means. Just nice to stay put.

Debbie I think you are one of the strongest women I know. I feel for you as life certainly isn't easy for you and your family. It's funny my pups are one of the reasons why Joe and I don't live together. This is their home, they are getting up there in age and I just wouldn't want to stress then with a big change. My friend from work is going through a similar situation with her daughter. Very long sad story of drugs and arrests. Her daughter had a warrant and now is spending one and a half years confined to a court mandated drug rehab program. Her son, now 6, lives with hid dad. It's sad. I'm glad you are going to meetings it is so important. I think we are all impressed with your energy and motivation. Hopefully Kirk will start to bounce back soon. Family drama works itself out in time too. I'm going to keep you in my thoughts and prayers that everything works out. I love hearing how long couples have been together it gives me hope that I can have a relationship like that too. Joe and I have been seeing each other for almost 5 years. I do enjoy my time alone too, but wouldn't mind having more time together. We live an hour and a half apart which is challenging with my new work schedule but we manage. Hope you have a great day. Thinking of you
