Default Walking, for how long?

I have a treadmill but have rarely used it. I quit smoking 6 weeks ago. I'm 26, im very unfit, how long each day should I be using the treadmill and how/when do I build up?

My suggestion is get into the habit of using it and don't push yourself as you start. Try five minutes tomorrow and see how you feel. Just at an easy walking pace for you. Perhaps do a bit more if you fancy it. Just to get into the swing of it.

Good luck!

I definitely agree with not pushing yourself too hard yet, especially since you just quit smoking. Five minutes is a good starting place. You could add a minute each day, or more if you feel like five minutes is totally doable! Good luck!

I agree with starting slow. Also, even though I often walk for an hour on the treadmill, I always break it up, usually into 20 minutes times. It is much easier for me to do 3 20 minutes sessions than one session of an hour. I didn't start out with that much though. I worked up to it over time.

If you are unfit, then don't exert yourself on the treadmill.
Start off slowly. When you feel tired, stop.

After a week of slow workout, you can slowly increase it.
In a months time you will be enjoying running on you treadmill.

I just started walking a week ago, and I can only do about 15 minutes at a time. I quit smoking a few years ago, but I'm 34 and smoked a long time, and I'm also really out of shape. I just do 15 minutes and then take a break. I try to do that at least 3 times a day. Small steps are big ones in the beginning!
