Totally irrational, but don't you hate it when bathroom
calls AFTER you've weighed in and after you've had morning coffee?
I weigh in the same time every day (give or take 30 minutes) and this morning, just after eating breakfast I had to go sit on the toilet. Now, with a low carb diet, I only have to use the toilet for "business" every 3-4 days, (and I'm not constipated, my body just produces less bulk waste). SO, I know that I will weigh less after a bathroom trip -except for drinking a large mug of coffee of course.
Anyone ever get tempted to do a mid-morning weigh-n because of that? I work from home today. It would be so easy to do a second weigh-in before lunch, but then I reason, "That's not consistent Melissa. You'll see that weight loss tomorrow."
It's especially tempting today as I'm edging near a new weight decade!
Every. Single. Time!!! It's so frustrating. I know it's not rational and that weight loss is a game of averages but my mind still thinks "what if behind that poop is a new low?"
Yep. This is my struggle as well! I just try to tell myself that my ultimate goal weight has nothing to do with the weight of poop, so I don't really HAVE to know. lol. I can only get a good empty weight on the weekends when I'm at home. And I'm traveling all of next weekend. So I don't plan to get a "good" weight until the 15th!!!
Got curious and just took my weight - yep... it would push me down to the next decade lower! Oh well... I'm working my way there and will hopefully see that new decade tomorrow or the day after.
I totally do the same thing too. I had a mini-plateau for 5 days, pooped and was down almost 2lbs the next morning. I know alot of it was water weight (we'd had company. I made good choices but still was stressed, didn't drink enough water, etc). But yeah, I feel like pooping is progress. LOL.
I have this too, and it drives me nuts. Especially on days when my weight is the same as the day before (or it is the same for several days) and then I have a BM and I am like --- is this it? Is my weight finally going to go down?
I will admit I normally do weigh myself again and normally it will stay the same or go down a teensy bit. But right now I will take a teensy bit!
OMG yes! It drives me nuts! I'm usually very consistent in my morning routine, but of course the days that I'm off are the days where I was expecting a nice drop down. And it never happens.
Sometimes I'll hop on the scale after the coffee and bathroom, but its usually a wash from the weight gained from coffee. lol
I'm ultra fascinated how low carb produces less poop for me. A a few days after having more carbs, I need to go every day again. Then, it takes a couple weeks to get it to go back down to every 3-4 days.
I used to maybe think it was the irritation that carbs do to the body, but my husband thinks it has to do with the gut flora - that it changes with my diet and a lot of my "poop" when I have carbs is actually from the gut flora bulk.
Kind of like I produce almost NO plaque on my teeth with a lower carb diet and get quite a bit of plaque with a higher carb diet.
same problem here. I've been going regularly once a day mostly in the mornings after breakfast, but shoot, on mornings I have to weigh in... NOTHING. I get home, and there it is. I still prefer morning weigh ins compared to afternoon or evenings. I feel like I gain 2-4lbs during the day.

You know, not to be nasty, but I second the low carb difference. It's not as.....well, squishy on low carb it seems LOL. I can tell when I eat too much sugar or carbs. I also think it's the gut flora. They thrive on carbs and go overboard when I eat them it seems.

That is pretty amazing!
With IF, I no longer get diarrhea (pretty sure I had undiagnosed IBS) and only go once a day. Used to be many times a day of really awful poop. I imagine its simply because it gives my intestines a chance to rest, rather than constantly digesting food.
Makes me wish doctors actually prescribed dietary changes such as low carb or IF as a solution to bowel issues.
Agree nonameslob. too many pill popping solutions. Too little lifestyle/dietary changes.
But then again, the doctors probably think no one will ever follow the "change" route.
Have high cholesterol? Reduce your carbs. Or do aerobic exercise - or both.
Have IBS - go low carb, or eat IF.
Have bad teeth? Lay off the sugars.
Can't sleep? Exercise.
