Hi All,
I just joined this forum yesterday and I have already found it very helpful. I'm a 36 year old female, 5'8'' tall, and (unfortunately) 244 lbs. My final goal is 150-160 lbs (I'll decide on a specific # when I am in that vicinity and can see how I look).
I really would like to lose 2 lbs per week which I'm sure will be harder once I am closer to my final goal, but I am willing to put in the work and I'm very motivated.
If anyone has any advice, tips or supportive comments I would love to hear them as I know this will be a long and (at times) difficult battle. Thank you.
Welcome!
I find smaller, mini-goals as well as a final goal to be helpful in terms of motivation. Final goals are mountains, mini-goals are foothills! :-)
Good luck!
welcome rainbow! I would take measurements as well, and use those for comparisons. I would make mini-goals, like superB said. 2 pounds a week is doable, but it might not be something you hit every week. It also gets harder as you've lost weight and you have less to lose. So, it may be easier to have goals like pant size, or percentage, or even 10 pound increments. Good Luck!
kisskiss, pant size is in many ways a great idea, but tricky because of the variation in sizing. i prefer to have a particular pair of pants or dress in mind, and work towards fitting in that. Otherwise, too much possibility of false hope or hopes being dashed. I can vary between a size 8 and 12, with an 8 being loose and a 12 being tight, all in the same fitting. Vanity sizing, and all that! :-)

Very true! My own closet has varying sizes too, because of vanity sizing
Something I did was buying a pair of jeans that was way too small. they were a size 18 from Torrid, and at the time, I was a size 24. So, one of my goals was to get into those pants. So, may be this could be a way to measure some NSV?
Hi rainbow78! Good to hear you are motivated and looking to reach a goal. When I started my weight loss I also wanted to lose weight naturally and not force it. For me, I am losing an average of 1.5 to 1.75 lbs a week. Or just under 2 lbs on average.
I find that working with my average gives me more flexibility as my body changes from week to week as I lose weight. Also, sometimes I can go for one or two weeks not losing any weight and then on the 3rd week drop 5-6 lbs. After 25 weeks my overall average is 1.68 lbs per week.
Have you picked a diet plan or are you like me and not using any diet at all. I am simply eating healthy and staying active.
kisskiss and superB I use a belt and measure using the notches going down. That's a little more standard.
I agree with applevalleygirl, it comes down to overall averages, not necessarily specific loss every week. In the beginning things can drop quickly but then slow down and the pick up again. If you have a specific number goal for the week and your body decides to not cooperate then it's very easy to get discouraged. It's best to keep your eye on the big picture. For example losing half a pound in a week is really disappointing if you want to lose 2 pounds but in the big picture it's still a loss.
Rainbow! This Fairy thought she'd send you some All fun aside Look for averages. I only weigh 3x a month and have only had 2x I didn't lose. I've lost 108 pounds in 46 wks so about 2.34 a week average. But it never was 2 a week. I never knew what would show up.
You can see on my blog how I went from a 45 day jump start (23pds) to basically The Gabriel Method (nutritious, mindful eating food wise). I strated in a wheel chair with no exercise and worked up to doing "in a Chair" type exercise DVD's. About 45 min 3x a week. I'm 64. So I know you can do this, just jump in with all your heart and find ways to make it fun.
