Victoria Day, like the old gray mare, ain't what she used to be but sure is being enjoyed around here this weekend. There will be some fireworks in the Park later and there were lots of parties with beer and burgers last night.
It was quiet at the Mill yesterday which was good. The men cleaned the screens at either end of the spillways - a messy job but necessary as leaves and water weeds collect there. The creek fish watched saying "There goes our salad bar!" but it gets pretty smelly after a while.
I went to Anna's to get rhubarb for my dessert. She has a rhubarb forest, not a patch! It's been there since the house was built in 1839 and is just incredible. Later, when strawberries are ready, we are going to make strawberry rhubarb jam to sell on bread days at the Mill. I said I was done with preserving but still have my old kettles so ...
Took the rhubarb crisp to Karen's dinner and it went over well. Unfortunately i had a bad coughing spell and decided to go home rather than inflict it on the rest of the folks - the coughing, not the crisp! It probably was the right decision as I sure didn't want to spread germs around. (I'm planning a re-visit to the doc this week.) It was nice to see everyone though and a great start to the season.
Time to throw in a load of laundry - I've still not dug out the summer clothes but have been using my Cuba wardrobe which is pretty sparse.
Enjoy this Monday even if it's not a holiday for you. Next weekend - Memorial Day Weekend, right?
