Good morning gals. As usual I woke up early, went to the bathroom so decided just to stay up. I am going to clean bathrooms upstairs once Jack leaves to go get his haircut.
We are having a bit of an issue with the ac unit and putting the vent into the door. The vent that the hose goes into won't stay in the door window so we had to put the hose directly into the window, which means part of the screen allows warm air in, but there isn't anything else we can do. There are no windows that open in the back. On top of that you have to take it out every time you want to go in and out the back door, which is where the garage/car is. Jack says he will just go out the front door and walk around, but I don't like him doing that in the dark in the mornings. Our porch light out front won't work and we can't figure out what is wrong with it and the association won't fix it so it would be totally dark when he walks out of the condo at 6 am. We will just have to work on the problem.
Pickled eggs have nothing to do with pickles. You just make hard boiled eggs and stick them in the pickled beet juice. They absorb the beet juice and the whites turn purple and have the pickled taste. They aren't for everyone but I grew up with them so I like them.
Jean: Have a great time with the grandkids and kids this weekend. Enjoy your lasagna. Have you ever tried using the no cook lasagna noodles? Cuts out the mess of cooking the noodles and dealing with them. You just layer the uncooked noodles in your sauce and cheese like you would regular cooked noodles. The only difference is you don't put the top layer of cheese on until 15 or 20 minutes before lasagna is done. The reason is you have to cover the lasagna with foil tightly, cook it for the allotted time, take it out, take off the foil and the lasagna is cooked except for the top layer of cheese. You put the top layer on and back in the oven until is it is nice and bubbly and as brown or not brown as you would like. They cook perfectly well and don't taste any different than precooked noodles. Cuts out a step. It is the only thing I use anymore.
Maggie: Hope you enjoyed your Mexican dinner. We had the ribs last night and I had heartburn all evening. I haven't had heartburn in months and months and months but I am sure it is because I haven't been eating high fat foods and such.
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the wind is blowing, only 46 degrees right now. I just finished my second pan of lasagna for Sunday dinner. Whew! I know I will be glad on Sunday, but that's more work than I've done in a long time. Now to do the dishes. Will clean bathrooms tomorrow, vacuum, and call it good. I think we are going to church tomorrow so Sunday isn't quite so rushed.
"Gma," thanks for starting the new thread! I can't picture what your vent, hose, and ac look like. Every place we rented had the units installed high in an outside wall. Too bad you can't call maintenance to get it fixed. Do pickled eggs taste like beets? Is pickled beet juice different than the juice in canned beets? I'm not very knowledgable about beets! Someone told me to google The World's Best Lasagna. The directions say to use six noodles and overlap them for two layers. One of the hospital gals told me she uses regular noodles but doesn't cook them first, and couldn't tell any difference. I chickened out and cooked my noodles in two batches for each pan because I don't have a pan big enough to do a whole box. My problem is getting it out of the pan -- one recipe said to let it sit 15 minutes but I like my food hot! There is no way a whole box of noodles would fit in a 9x13" pan! I had 20+ noodles in each box but did 4 layers of 3 noodles. I'm not making this again any time soon!
I need to keep moving before I fall asleep. Hope you are enjoying a nice day, and looking forward to the weekend.
Hi everyone...just wanted to stop in and say Happy Easter to everyone. I know I haven't been around in a very long time but y'all have been in my thoughts. I hope everyone is doing well. I'm hanging in there--going into my third year managing cancer. Hasn't been easy. Good days and bad moments. But praise the Lord I'm still here! DH is now retired and has taken a lot of stress from me. Anyway...just wanted to say Happy Easter!
Good morning to you all. I have a hair appointment this morning so am up early so I can get chores done, eat breakfast, shower, etc. I am feeling pretty miserable because the hormone pills are making the female stuff worse and worse. I have to take them through Tuesday and then am done with them so will be glad of that. Dr said to take all of them even though they aren't helping because my gyn will ask if I took them all and I needed to let him know I did.
I have a package from FedEx that is smartpost and where it is now is anybody's guess. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday but then it showed going to a post office box then showed it was in Grove City, Ohio last night, which is a FedEx location so I called them this morning and they put a trace on it. We shall see. It is just some men's ankle socks I wear around the house so it isn't something I need right away.
I am supposed to get my stuff for sewing from Joann's today. I got my shirt and sweater yesterday and they are great looking. The sweater is open weave capped sleeve in a supposed blush pink but looks like a very light tan that you wear a tank under. I have a silk white tank I am going to wear under it and have some cute pink jewelry to go with it. The other top is tshirt type with metal studs and crochet in a bright orange. Supposed to coral but it is bright orange, but that is ok.
We ended up having chicken last night. I felt so bad Jack just went and got something. Not great for my diet as I didn't even make veggies last night I felt so bad. Today doesn't look to be any different but I have to cook today even if I am hurting as I don't want to eat anything that I don't cook today.
Gail: I must have ESP as I was just thinking of you yesterday and wondering how you were doing. I have been trying to find your email address and don't know if it is the same one or not. If you feel up to it and still want to visit and see this PM me here with your email address. It was great to hear from you.
Jean: Regular canned beets are in water and pickled beets are in a vinegar was solution. Yes, the egg white sort of taste like beet but more like the pickling liquid I think. You should have stuck with yours. My dd thought it was fabulous. Sometime when you are just making one for you and Bob try getting the dry noodles and putting them in dry. I make just a two serving lasagna as I have a small glass pan where the special noodles fit just perfectly. I do 4 layers too but use just 4 noodles. They expand so much that it is perfect. When I made them for a whole pan and cooked them, I never could use that many. I only used 12 at the most. Hope you enjoy it tomorrow!!!
Everyone have a fun Saturday. I am off to the shower.
My sinuses are giving me fits still. Now my right eye skin is all swollen and I look awful. My eyelid is so full of liquid it is hanging down over part of my eye. I have never ever had a sinus attack as severe as this one. There is something to be thankful though ~ it only is on one side of my face. I took an allergy pill and hopefully that will help.
Will is going to BBQ a couple of chops and I will make some of my rice mixture and prepare a can of asparagus and we can have a yummy meal.
DONNA FAYE I hope your hair turned out the way you wanted it to.
JEAN I certainly hope your lasagna turns out yummy after your doing so much work on it. I just came back to tell you that I checked on the Decorah eagles and 3 babies are currently being fed. (It is 4:07 in the afternoon here and I think we are in the same time zone you are.)
GAIL I have been wondering about you for awhile. So glad you popped in and let us know the "latest." So Wayne retired ~ that is nice.
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the breeze is blowing. I am dressed and waiting to leave for church to avoid the hassle in the morning. I need to clean my bathroom, and clean/cut veggies then think I am ready for the troops tomorrow.
Gail, it's nice to see you. I'm sorry about your cancer. Bad stuff!
"Gma," I'm sorry the hormone pills make you feel so lousy. Hope tomorrow is better for you. Think I told you about the calendar snafu, yesterday they came but no mailing envelope and they charged me shipping. I fired off an email pronto saying I want credit for both and forget the envelope. Today I get a "sorry" email from them saying they will send the envelope. This afternoon I get four more calendars! Not only will I be calling them on Monday, but also the credit card to make sure I wasn't double billed. Can't anyone do their job right? Hope you enjoy your brunch tomorrow.
Maggie, I'm sorry about your sinus troubles. Do you look like you have been in a fight? The third baby eagle was on the news this morning, or today sometime.
Bob is ready to leave so we're off. Have a Happy Easter tomorrow!
Good morning to you all. I hope you all have a lovely blessed Easter with family or friends today. Our brunch is 1 PM so we will head out about 12:30. They only allow you to be 15 minutes late then they give your table away.
Went and got my hair done yesterday. She styled it really out there so I came home and washed out the goop and dried it again. She usually doesn't go so radical, but I always let her do what she wants. The cut is expert and the color is great so I don't worry about how she styles it.
I wanted to get out of the house so we went to the mall. Boy or boy there were people everywhere. We went in to the sleep number store and talked about how much it would cost to get one of their king beds that the head raises up so I can sleep in a bed again. $8000 including set up, tax and haul away so looks like after vacation next year my floors are going to wait a few months so we can get the bed. I so want to sleep in a bed again and I have to say this is one comfortable bed. I got some jewelry at Claires and we walked around a bit then came home.
Maggie: Oh, I hope you feel better soon as those things are so miserable.
Jean: Have fun with the kiddos today and don't eat too much lasagna.
Good afternoon, ladies! A sunny day in the 60s today.
I've been on jury duty for 8 days and it's still not over. Not allowed to talk about it. All I can say is if you get called for a Federal Grand Jury, run, move to Canada, or find an excuse not to go.
Spring flowers and last fall's pansies are blooming, dandelions are also showing up. Tree pollen and mold are doing their number on me.
Glory's daughter has come from Houston, TX to be with her mom for Easter and I'll be having dinner with them a little later today.
April 10, 11, 12 is the retreat I teach it I'm really looking forward to that.
Faye, I sure hope they can do something about your female problems soon. You have dealt with this far to long. It's nice to get together with family - enjoy the buffet. Have you ever looked at www.fullplateliving.org? It sounds a lot like what you are doing.
Jean, lasagna sounds so good! I found a new magazine called Gluten Free & More and one of the reasons I bought it was because it has receipes for gluten-free noodles. I have a pasta machine so I need to make a trip to Trader Joe's for a couple of the flours and I'll be making pasta this week.
Maggie, sinus ills are awful. I hope yours clear up soon.
Good Evening! Kids all headed for home after grilled hamburgers and strawberries on angel food cake tonight. The lasagna was good and poor Sonny spent most of the day in the basement behind the furnace. He cautiously peeked around the kitchen corner about ten minutes after everyone left. I washed the dishes that wouldn't fit in the dishwasher and here I am. I am tired! Since I have to be at church in the morning, to count at 7:30, I'm going to bed early.
"Gma," hope you enjoyed the buffet today. Wow! For $8000 you should sleep really good! Is there more than one company that makes that type of bed?
What did you find at Claire's? There is one in the Sioux City mall and Maddy loves to shop there.
Susan, Beth was just on a jury that ended up a hung jury. She was the foreman and today told us a little bit about it. The case was a man against the company who sold his implanted defibrillator, an upgrade warning he claimed he didn't get notified for. There were a couple jurors who didn't want to be there and made it difficult to discuss. She was glad they didn't come to a decision because then they had to figure the money part of the compensation for the man plus his wife, life expectancy, etc. Can you be excused to teach your class? Beth's family all had the flu and she mentioned there were no alternate jurors in case someone got sick, which she did after the trial was finished.
Guess I will take a look at the Sunday paper to see if anything great happened around the country. Hope you all have a marvelous Monday tomorrow!
Good morning to you all. I am a mess this morning. The female stuff is so bad I am having to put towels on everything I sit on. I said to heck with finishing the Provera as I am sure that is what has made this so much worse. I had today and tomorrow, but I am not taking the last two. I am going to wait for a few days before I even make an apt to see the gyno. I need to go to the store today but I can't leave home at the moment, that's how bad it is.
The brunch was a flop IMO. We have gone there before but always early and it was packed and horribly noisy and we got seated way up front so the jazz musicians and the crowds made it so bad you couldn't hear anyone talk. We bought a carafe of mimosas and everyone said they tasted awful. I only like one kind of champagne so I never drink the stuff. They ran out of plates so you had to stand in line for those, ran out of food so you had to stand and wait if you wanted something they had but was empty and if you wanted an omelet you had to stand in line forever for those. All for the love total of $300!!! We go again and they are not roping me into going into the afternoon. I will tell the lady to shove it.
I ordered some Avon stuff this morning as I am about out of the foundation to powder I like so well and it was BOGO half off. They had their lipstick I like on sale half off so I got three of those and a bottle of moisturizer that is in a pump so I don't have to get the stuff under my nails trying to dig it out of a jar like I do now. We shall see if I like it as right now I use Oil of Olay in a pump in the morning, but good ole ponds in the evening and have to do the dig out each evening.
We watched part of the Cubs game but they didn't look any better to me last night than they did last year, which was horrible. Don't know how badly they lost as we turned it off around the 6th inning.
Susan: I bought the book, but I do the fullplateliving.org. I saw your FB thing about that and that is how I hooked up with it. The only thing is this hormone makes me struggle badly with hunger. No amount of fiber is helping that. I just have to bear knuckle it until I get the stupid stuff out of my system. Good luck on the mess with the jury duty and hopefully it will end soon. I have another sewing class the end of this month and we are making pajama pants from a pattern. We shall see how well I do with that. I find the new machines do so much for you it sure takes the stress out of learning to sew.
Jean: There are two or three companies that make beds that are adjustable, but this is the bed that you can also adjust the soft or firmness of your mattress and each side can be adjusted. It had a very very long warranty so it should outlast us at this point. When I laid down on it and she adjusted the mattress and adjusted the head I was in heaven. It was so soft and comfortable that I am willing to pay the expensive price just to sleep in a bed again. I bought three pair of earrings. I wear big earrings and like drop earrings too and bought a couple pair of those then these big ball earrings in a bright pink. I got a bogo half off thing so did save some money.
Well girls it is getting onto 8 am and I haven't done my blood sugar or my breakfast so I need to get my day started. Have a lovely start to your week.
Good Afternoon! It's a gloomy cold day in my neighborhood. I drove to church in a light mist but the rain is supposed to arrive shortly. Lots to post on the computer this morning with it being first of the month plus Easter. We went to church Saturday night; we were almost first in the communion line and back in our pew when a seeing eye dog went down the aisle with his master. I was so surprised, but I have seen them at WM a few times. Not many gift shop sales last week so that didn't take long.
Now I am having a glass of wine while the washer and dryer do their jobs. I just spent an hour plus on the phone between my credit card company and Shutterfly where I ordered the calendars that Beth created. Long story, short version I ordered four and received a shipment of four two days in a row! There are two charges on my credit card but Shutterfly is only showing one. So I have to dispute the first charge which is different from the second, and wait 15 days for them to not pay it. The Shutterfly idiot told me I had to send the extras back in order to receive credit. His supervisor, who spoke English, said not to. I'm sure my bp is up a bit!
"Gma," I sure wish one of your doctors could figure out the cause and fix your female hormone problem. You have put up with it way too long! I feel bad your Easter brunch was such a flop. It sounds like they weren't very organized for a holiday crowd. I didn't realize you weren't sleeping in your bed at all. I'm sure you will enjoy a new adjustable bed! Have fun with your new earrings!
I need to finish putting yesterdays dishes away, and check the dryer. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the day and evening.
We have been out and about today ~ took the dogs to the groomer then went to wash the Jeep then run some errands until we got the call the dogs were ready. I feel almost back to exact today thank goodness. When the swelling of my face subsided it left behind an itchy eye which I am trying my best to keep my hands off and just use my eye drops for itchy & gritty eyes which does help.
We once again fired TV service for their hardly isn’t anything worth watching anymore. If we want to watch something there is always movie rental plus we own quite a few which could be watched again. I just know that we will end up owing all of Clint Eastwoods westerns.
Will’s lap top computer developed some serious problems and he took it in to be worked on and picked it up today and decided on buying a new one which will be there in several days so he can pick it up and then sell his old one. They told him that since mine is working so well they could take it in and put a solid state in it and upgrade the RAM. I’ll let them do that for I don’t want a new one as long as I am happy with this one.
JEAN Doesn't it just make you wonder sometimes what planet those phone sales folks are working from when they have such a hard time understand simple orders given in English.
DONNA FAYE How long has this problem with your system been going on?
Good morning to you all. It is going to be hot hot today, in mid 80's. We are going to have a lovely sunny day. My azaleas are in full bloom now, but they don't really last that long. When we lived in base housing in VA, I planted some beautiful pink ones that came up year after year. Wonder if they are still there?
We made a run to Krogers early yesterday morning. I felt so bad all day I did nothing but do a load of laundry and cook dinner last night and even then my sweet husband cleaned it all up for me. I took 4 Advil, something to make me sleep and konked out about 6. I woke at 8 having to go to the bathroom but then went right back to sleep. It is going at it again this morning, mainly in my lower back.
I am going to get upstairs and clean bathrooms today and hang up clothes. Jack took the basket up last night and unloaded it, but he doesn't hang up my clothes he just lays them out.
I ordered everything for my next sewing class and the stuff I got from Hancock fabric should be here tomorrow. I am making the pj pants for Thomas and couldn't decide on the fabric print I wanted but Hancock had this anti pill fleece in sort of a camo background but it had scout badges all over it so I decided to get it. I bought the cutest dish towel to make the apron. I am using black bias tape on it instead of white to make it stand out more.
Maggie: Well, I went through menopause 6 years ago if that tells you anything and have had issues since then. I have had 4 gynecologists and 4 different primary care doctors. I have had 5 d and c's, 3 years of the hormones that caused my diabetes, one round that I just took, 6 biopsies, an ultrasound, a cat scan, and a hysteroscope. Because I am not heavily bleeding all the time or blood clotting and the uterus has no polyps, fibroids, cancer, endometriosis, etc the insurance will not pay to take it out so I am stuck just going through this over and over again. If the doctor could find just one anomaly he could operate but so far he hasn't. Glad Will got his laptop all sorted out. Jack needs a new battery for his but he doesn't take it anywhere so he just leaves it plugged in upstairs in his office. He takes his Ipad if we are leaving the house.
Jean: Did you dispute it with your credit card company? What use would Shutterfly have with personalized calendars if you sent the second set back? All they would do is throw them in the trash for heaven's sake. How stupid. I am sorry you are having such an issue with this. You'd be better off sending Beth the money ahead of time and letting her order them but ship them to your address from now on. What a mess. I can't lay on my back in bed, on either side or on my stomach since I had the colon surgeries. I don't know why, but every time I try I fall asleep, but wake up with a horrible backache that I can hardly get out of bed and then have to go downstairs anyway. When we go on vacation, we always get a suite in any hotel so I can use a combination of the couch and a chair to sleep in as I can't lay on a couch either. If we stay at Hyatt Place or Embassy Suites, their couch has a long lounge on it so I can sit up and sleep but on a couch. On the ship I have had to sleep in the bed as there wasn't another option, but we get about 6 extra blankets and pillows and roll them up then I get into the bed with pillows behind my back sitting up and jack lines pillows and blankets up on each side of me. Problem is, I wake up having to go to the bathroom and have slid down and so my back hurts tremendously and usually by the time I can get stood up to go, I have to rush and usually don't make it so I have to wear an incontinent pad to bed. Next year we are getting a suite so it has a couch and two easy chairs so it might be better. I think it is because I have such a short colon now and a lot of scar tissue.
Everyone have a great day today. If you get a chance read Unbroken, the story about the Olympic runner Louie Zamparini during WWII. You will never look at the war the same way again for sure. It is wonderfully written and engrossing, sad, heartbreaking and you can't put it down. I had to wait months to get it from the library but it was worth the wait. It does break my heart so much I have to put it down though from time to time.
Good morning, ladies! 61 degrees and light rain but heading for the high 70s once again.
I'm doing laundry today and working on a red and white quilt. Simple but we think it will be something for our retreat ladies to do in October. Yesterday I went to the chiropractor. My back feels so much better today. I went to Big Lots and they had 0-calorie flavored waters in 20 oz. bottles for 50 cents and low carb high protein bars for $2 so I got 12 boxes of bars and 24 bottles of water.
Faye, I love your towel - how appropriate! It's a shame the brunch workers didn't plan better. At the prices you had to pay, it was disgraceful to run out of dishes and food. There was an article in the Parade magazine in Sunday's paper about the Blue Solution - how to live to be 100. I ordered it as soon as I read the article but it wasn't released until today so it was on my Kindle first thing this morning. I'll be reading that. Basically its a lot of fruits and vegetables, a little meat and dairy, some lean meat and eating sparingly on a 10-inch plate; exercise daily; have a tribe - a group that supports each other in good times and bad and does things together; and have a spiritual believe that you practice. There was a huge amount of research. The book is from National Geographic, It should be interesting reading. I've been knitting for about 60 years but Thursday Glory and I are going to the tea shop and taking a free learn to knit class where we will make a dish cloth. We're doing it to support our friend who will be teaching. They are going to serve tea and scones during the class.
Jean, I was sure everyone would love your lasagna! I haven't had it for so long but this week I'm making gluten-free pasta from scratch and then I'll be making lasagna. I sure wouldn't order anything from Shutterfly after your experience.
Maggie, glad you are feeling better. Tree pollen has peaked here but mold is high. I watch a lot on the History Channel, PBS and National Geographic. A few shows on regular tv but not many. I go days without turning the tv on.
Good Morning! It's another misty gloomy day here. I woke up in the middle of the night convinced I had put $5.00 in the wrong account when I was posting yesterday. What made that revelation in the night is anybody's guess. Anyhow, went into the office this morning and sure enough I had done just that. The secretary helped me fix the figures for the treasurer who happened to be there, so I could explain to her what I had done. I will sleep good tonight! Maddy has a soccer game at 5:30 but it is supposed to be raining in Sioux City by then. I hope they cancel it before we have to leave; it's a miserable day to sit or stand around outside.
Maggie, I agree there's sure no point in paying for TV service you don't use. We would miss the area, state, and national news, weather, the cooking channel, and some of the sports channels. I know they are all available on the computer but that's just not the same. Our TV area is where the kitchen is also, so it's on a lot of the time. I try to be very patient with customer service people who speak English as a second language, but sometimes I ask for a supervisor.
"Gma," I would like some of your "hot!" I am back in a sweatshirt and debating which winter coat to take to the game, if there is one. I did dispute the charge but still have to wait 15 days for it to be off my account. They won't charge me interest and I don't have to pay it. I hope you feel better today! The fabric sounds cute, and I love the towel!
Susan, I will be curious to hear about your court case when it is finished. I thought of you when we had communion on Maundy Thursday. Usually we have a choice of regular bread or gluten free wafer, but that night it was all gluten free bread. First of all the pieces were cut too big, and our glasses are teeny tiny, so not much to wash it down. I thought it looked like wheat bread, but it was the driest bread I have ever eaten. I was afraid it would get stuck going down, so I chewed 'n chewed. The Easter communion bread was a choice again, and very fresh.
I have towels to fold so better get that done. It will be left over lasagna for lunch! Have a terrific Tuesday and enjoy!
