Default Constipated on optifast

I am doing 5 shakes a day and I am fine with how everything else is going.. but I can't go in that important department. Has anyone replaced one shake with a cup of steamed broccoli/couliflour to help things along. I have a history of fissures and this just won't do and I really don't want to take a medicine

Well for anyone who's curious.. I added the vegetables and everything is going great and I don't feel it adds too many calories

ok was able to remove the vegetables and now it's going the other way in a disturbing way... like gassy, gas pains, and even clear #2. but I am still persevering!

Have you tried smooth move tea? The brand name is traditional medicinal. Sticking to the Optifast meal plan is important. Make sure you tell your Dr. about your tweaks to the plan. Good luck!

I'm a bit late poking my nose in here, but could you just add some psyllium husks or something to the shakes, to bulk them up with fibre?

As an aside, my husband likes sugar-free aloe juice for pooping purposes. It lists a lot of carbs but they're nearly completely fibre. I think it's only 5 calories per cup or something like that. Tastes good, too, although I'm not much into drinking it myself (because I'm avoiding artificial sweeteners).

have you talked to your doctor about it? Mine stated that if there was any issues in that department that they'd tell me exactly what fiber product to take.

good luck

Make sure you are getting enough fiber in your diet and psyillium or whatever it's called. I get the clear/flavorless fiber and just mix it with my food or drink.

Well at one point it turned the other way but now it's back to constipation. I can't do gluten so many fibers are out... but bulk fiber is NOT what I need.. it's hard and painful and ripping my fissures open Nothing like sobbing in the bathroom for a half hour

I've been leaning on miralax but I heard that's not healthy. I tried flax seed oil pills but that just made me bloated. I'm trying probiotics (phillips colon health) and that's helping a tiny bit. But still looking for my cure :/
