Default Anytime I eat any carbs...

I'm feeling frustrated because any time I eat any simple carbs (or really any carbs besides veggies and those "allowed") I gain at least two pounds.

I'm concerned because I'm trying to get pregnant and once I'm pregnant I'll need to eat carbs to keep my diet balanced. I'm terrified I'm going to gain a ton of weight because I gain so much weight so easily when I eat carbs.

What's the deal?

How can I eat healthy complex carbs without gaining a ton of weight?

Do you think it might be bloating? I think it would be really hard to actually put on two pounds in a day. Try having more water with your complex carbs, perhaps you're not used to the fibre. I would also increase gradually not to freak your body out!
I hear chamomile tea is great for bloating and water weight. Helps a lot during TTOM!

Good luck!

I'm doing a very strict form of Atkins called the No Sugar No Starch diet. But there are days (for instance I had a stomach bug on the weekend and the only thing I could keep down was saltine crackers) where I can't be 100% low carb.
I guess I'm just scared because when pregnant I'll need to reintroduce carbs.

As I do strictly Atkins per Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 (I've been doing this 10+ years), I am not familiar with this "very strict form of Atkins called the No Sugar No Starch diet" you are referring to. That being said, the 2nd phase of Atkins, On Going Weight loss (OWL), teaches you how to reintroduce carbs per the carb ladder, 1 rung at a time until your body finds its personal threshold to either continue losing or to maintain (whichever the case may be).

My question: Why don't you think Atkins is balanced? I am eating the healthiest right now following Atkins with whole fresh food. I think Jersey says it best by mentioning the carb ladder. Also think about the kinds of carbs you will re-add like super foods......don't be scared do the best thing for you!!

When you reduce carbs you eat, some of the first weight you lose is the body shedding water. If you start eating more carbs, some water weight will come back.

This is really a few pounds total.

When I first did the induction phase I lost more pounds the first week than would have been called for from a calorie standpoint (about 2 pounds extra). Of course, I did lose weight then and later that was "real" weight loss.

Later, as I added back in carbs, I found I wasn't terribly carb sensitive and I haven't ended up fairly moderate in carbs (an average of about 80 net carbs a day). During that period I did gain back about 2 pounds of fluid because of eating the higher carbs. But, that is all I gained back.
