Good morning from my cozy house. (I forgot to turn down the heat last night so it's balmy.) I'm sipping Irish Cream flavoured coffee this morning and thinking of St Patrick's Day which is six months away. Must be the coffee.
Yesterday was a delightfully simple day. I did a bit of weeding out back and took a drive down by the Lake. It was sunny and windy so I trespassed on a friend's property and sat on their patio watching the waves crash in. It wasn't Cape Cod but sure was relaxing.
Actually spent two hours sewing - the dogs kept coming in and looking at me, wondering what was wrong. Spent another two hours watching The Roosevelts on PBS. (I actually saw FDR when he visited Ottawa after WWII.) All in all a very relaxing day with no Mill problems messing with my day.
Not doing as well on weight management as nasty but comforting carbs are sneaking back into my diet. Guess I should join Xan's Challenge. I did see 180 last week but somehow 3 pounds crept back when I wasn't looking.
Today looks easy - so far. I do have to meet with a caterer at one at the Mill to help her figure out what electricity will be available for a wedding the last Saturday of the month. The wedding is to be held IN the Mill with the dinner party at the Town Hall but she wants to serve hors d'oeuvres before they go to the Hall. My suggestion will be Sterno or cold stuff.
Time to carefully crank up the day to cruising speed - no more drag-racing! The summer sort of "knocked the stuffin' outta me" as they say around here.
See what you can do to make your day "humpless". Coffee will help.
Hi Ladies!
Woke up this morning and realized it's my father's birthday! Whoops. Luckily he doesn't get too hung up on cards and is sort of a "man who has everything", so even if I get him a gift card it usually never gets used. I'll call...he will appreciate that.
I drove myself crazy yesterday morning looking at all the various hotels in Las Vegas. There's a theory that too much choice makes people uncomfortable and that is definitely true for me. I finally gave up in disgust - I am sure prices will be going down the closer we get to the date anyway (we are going Thanksgiving week), so I can table this for a while. We have a reservation at the Luxor, but I've heard the rooms are not really that nice and that the lobby is really filled with people trying to solicit you for timeshares. Part of me would prefer to stay in a regular hotel with no casino, especially since I have a kid. There are a couple near the Convention Center that look decent and are right on the monorail. I have the sense that it is not that easy to walk from casino to casino. Does anyone know if it is free to park if you are not staying at a hotel?
Today: just work, and then tonight I have the first session of my Education for Ministry class at church, which is more of a theological study than training for any sort of clerical role. I enjoy it, but I don't get home until 9 which is late for me (I'm usually tucked into bed reading at that time!!). Oh well - at least it's hump day!
Ruth, I'm really glad to see you truly didn't have a lot to do! It sounds beautiful sitting on the porch. I'm glad you "trespassed"!
Matilda - I'm the same way, I research, research, research, and then am completely overwhelmed by the choices. Vegas would be the end of me, with having to make that choice!
Work has been crazy, and this week is crazy to boot. Last night was the kids' open house, tonight is bible study, tomorrow night is PT. Friday we go camping! But, I think I'll skip tonight, otherwise I don't know when I'll prep for camping. Huh...menu....guess I need to work on that!
Good morning chicks! Somehow I have a few extra minutes today to stop in- and this morning I even have internet.
Just another Wednesday at work. I feel like I am back in the thick of things with kids, planning and grading.
One great thing is I did some real cooking the last couple days so we will have leftover buffet tonight. I have chili, pulled pork and the shepherds pie with cauliflower. Yum.
Ok need to run.
Ruth, glad you had a relaxing day.
Matilda, a break from planning sounds good.
Tammy, have a good work day.
Happy hump day to the chicks to come!
These cold, dark, mornings sure do make it hard to crawl out of bed!
Ruth, I'm glad you had a lovely "ME day" yesterday. It won't be too much longer before we can sit together on a bench and enjoy the crashing waves in Cape May.
Matilda, your dad would probably enjoy a phone call from you much more than a card. I hope he has a nice birthday.
Tammy, I hope you can keep your sanity in the midst of all the busyness! Good thing you're getting away this weekend! BTW, we need to plan to get together again soon.
My day won't be as busy as yesterday. I have to make a grocery run this morning, then pick up Maggie from school at 2 for her otho appt, which she is a bit nervous about since she gets her braces today. Afterwards, there's Pony Club, but I get to drop her off and then head home.
I think I'm going to grab a stuffed pepper from my freezer for my lunch today. Mmmmmmm!
Ruth glad you enjoyed yourself yesterday. Comfort carbs have been creeping in here too. Maybe they are looking for a place to stay warm on these chilly nights
Beth glad your internet is back and you are settling in with school.
Tammy have a great time this weekend. You are creating memories your kids will cherish
Matilda I really don't remember if there was a parking fee. I know we parked at the Belagio once. My brother was in Vegas when I was. He stayed in a suite there. Money is not a concern for him. Personally I do not think I will ever go back. I don't like being in crowds. I think it has something to do with work lol
Debbie the quilt is gorgeous!!! Thanks for sharing a pic with us
As for me, yesterday I was a load. I didn't even get dressed. I did manage to thoroughly clean the house and put away my AC. Otherwise a whole lot of napping and TV watching. I seem to get 3 days a month where I am exhausted. Yesterday was one of those days. Today laundry is already going and a spaghetti squash is roasting. I do need to run a few quick errands later so today I will shower and get dressed.
I was in the office getting caught up with bills...it's property tax season for our Alaska stuff. Ouch. Now I'm getting in a time crunch I take my mom to her monthly eye apt today. We're going to cross rush hour traffic so it means leave on time.
Jennifer, funny, I have the same experience as you. Go go go then several times a month I'm just exhausted. A day of rest (shutting down my brain) really helps. Yesterday was my day, too.
Got my hair colored today. I decided to try to grow my bob for my trip to Ecuador to see if I can get it back in a ponytail by then. So I'm now getting my hair colored more often and cut less often.
I'm off to work this afternoon. Been on the computer today looking into Indianapolis. We are going there next month for our nephew's wedding and plan to spend an extra day.
Just getting a chance to get online to check in busy day and still have a busy afternoon.
Ruth sounds like yo had a lovely yesterday
Matilda if I am remembering correctly the hotel are all free parking they get you with the casinos. I did not like Vegas at all too many people and the people trying to get you to go to shows and buy this and that and lots of homeless people on the streets. The one weird thing I did notice we had DD2 with us is that you can walk right through the casinos with your child so I can only assume they are watching every minute of your walk through with your child on camera.
Tywnn sounds like you have quite the busy week going
Debbie that is a beautiful quilt.
to Beth, Cottage, Jekel and Cottage and any other chicks I may have forgotten
