Commercial Diet Programs

  • Hi All,
I just have to laugh at the commercials for Nutrisystem. I keep seeing them on TV with Marie Osmond. I noticed that the more recent commercial has her saying she lost 50 pounds. The older ones had her losing 40 pounds. So what does that say about the ability to maintain weight loss on such programs? I guess she gained all her weight back plus 10 more and then lost it again.

I'm not knocking these programs for some people, as I know they work to lose weight for the short term. But I worked for Jenny Craig about 20 years ago and I remember how many people we had returning again and again because they had gained the weight back and then some. It's infuriating that these programs take so much money from people and don't deliver on results.

We must remember that the diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. How are these people supposed to make money if their program works? Isn't it better to have return customers?

It took me 20yrs to figure it out. Diets do not work, they never worked and they never will work. The data on these facts is too overwhelming to ignore yet most do.
