Alternating cabbage soup diet and Atkins. Thoughts please?

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and was hoping for your thoughts/advice.

I'm currently doing the cabbage soup diet for a week.
To avoid putting all the weight back on, my plan is to go straight in to the Atkins diet for a couple of weeks after that.
Apparently you want to eat all the time after doing the cabbage soup diet, so if I go straight to the Atkins diet I actually CAN eat as much as I want.
But, will I keep losing weight, or does one diet cancel out the other?

I think this could be great idea if I can stick to it, but have any of you tried the same thing?

Any advice would be great, and I'll keep you all posted on my results of you like.

I'm a 42 year old man, in case that matters

    Many thanks
  • Why not just do Atkins and eat cabbage?

I am not on Atkins but I eat a lot of fish with salad and kimchi (fermented cabbage). And it's great.
  • I think Ian can give your some good tips, if you don't mind me saying so Ian.
Look for his posts, he has done quite well.
  • What is the cabbage soup diet exactly? IIRC, it's just cabbage soup w only low carb veggies in it? If so it's totally compatible with Atkins.

Does the cab soup diet have any protein source? If not, I'd be worried about doing it for a whole week.

Hi Ian, thank you for your reply.
I basically want to maximise my weight loss before a wedding next month, so just trying this out to see if it works.
Kimchi sounds interesting, I'll look in to it as that's new to me.

The cabbage soup diet is protein free for the first few days, from day 5 you have beef or chicken.

I have done Atkins before, but I wondered if alternating them like this may trick my body in to losing even more weight.

    Fingers crossed

You cannot trick your body. It doesn't work that way.

Muscle Confusion™ is a marketing slogan only, not something that actually happens.

I understand why one might want to look their best for a special wedding but one simply can't lose that much weight in 30 days unless they are starting at a very high weight to begin with.
  • Sure, it can work. Starving yourself will probably be quicker. All fad diets work in the short term. Just be prepared for gaining it back and then some after the wedding though.

In all seriousness, your body deserved much better than that. Eat nutritiously, exercise in a way that's enjoyable and sustainable, and take good care of yourself by getting plenty of sleep and rest. These are the things that not only lead to natural weightloss but also abundant health and happiness.

No, you can't eat as much as you want. If that's the case everyone would be on Atkins. You still have to watch your caloric intake.
  • Thank you for the feedback everyone, I think you may have all talked me out of it.
  • Do you LIKE cabbage? Do you look forward to and enjoy eating it? If not, I strongly advise against building your diet around it, even if it's in alternate weeks, months or whatever.
