Default Work refrigerators. I can't believe this still happens.

It's 2014 there can't be a person left on Earth that doesn't know not to help themselves to food in a shared refrigerator without asking...especially NOT my $3.00 Parfait with granola from Jewel.

It wasn't a mistake. That was the only yogurt in the fridge and I had just brought it in that morning. It was gone after a few hours. Looked in the garbage and there it was..empty. I was speechless. I could've said something but didn't want to embarrass the person in case they really don't know any better. <--This is me trying to be optimistic.

Seriously, what are people thinking? I mean do they think it's a machine that regenerates food or something?

That's why I write my name on my stuff. Some people do buy shared things, but taking an individual yogurt is pretty careless. I would have said something.

Eeek! I can't believe it either! Perhaps you can use a lunchbox/bag and keep it in there so it's not so visible and appealing?

I really don't understand people sometimes.

"omg! the parfait fairy visited! how did they know I was craving a parfait? thank goodness magic is real and being used to satisfy my hunger!" <- what I imagine happened.

It makes me unreasonably upset when people are willfully inconsiderate to others. Here's what I try to think when something of mine is stolen "I hope they needed it more than I did"

Honestly, you can't believe the stories I've heard. People take bites of sandwiches and then put them back... That is really why I recommend, if you can, take your own lunch box with ice packs. Don't mess with the community fridge.

Gosh that's awful in so sorry. I would put a poster up "Missing Parfait" and "$3 reward to anyone who has any information regarding its disappearance".

Maybe put it in a brown paper bad with your name on it? Brown paper bags don't look appealing.

I hate food thieves as well. I first moved to the city and worked retail, barely made money, so I often would get a $5 foot long from subway and eat half for lunch, and save the other half for the next days lunch.

A couple of times the second half was gone. I was left with no food for the day and was upset that someone at my store was either throwing out my lunch, or eating it.

One day, I bought my sandwich and put half in the fridge, Eric (guy I worked with) came in for the night shirt 30 minutes early. As I clocked out, I saw him in the back eating a subway sandwich, which reminded me of mine so I opened up the fridge and it was GONE! I looked at his... and saw the extra olives, turkey ham, spinach... and asked him, "When did you go to subway." He laughed and said he found it in the fridge. I was shocked and asked him "Why would you eat it, it's in the lunch basket, meaning it's someone who works here lunch or dinner. Not yours." He just laughed and replied, "I don't care. I was hungry, anything in that fridge is fair game, really you should try it, saves you money if you don't have to buy food."

I then ripped into him about how that was MY sandwich, About how I NEVER have money, and how I've had to work 8 hours shifts STARVING because he's a JERK who eats other people's food. He just laughed while I freaked out. Kept saying he didn't care.

I called our boss and told her he was capable of stealing, and what hat transpired. He was fired 3 weeks later after he was caught stealing product.

The nerve. Honestly, how could you be so heartless that you are eating someone else's food? My current office, my co-workers girlfriend brings him food in and loads the freezer. He once thought my alfredo was his and ate it. He felt bad when I confronted him and bought me a gift card to a local shop to make up for it. So they're not all evil. But, I think most people who eat someone else's food from the shared fridge are just careless to others.

Yes, I've read stories about "one bite bandits", taking certain food out of people's lunch boxes, or taking the entire bagged lunch! Those that go that far have to have a compulsion disorder...or just plain a-holes.

Kurisitaru, that guy was way out of line. Glad he got canned.

Put your food in a brown bag and label it "Breast Milk" or something. I bet most people would avoid it.

Or in a bag and label "Joe's fishing worms."

I also saw a "refrigerator safe" in a container store once. It's a small basket that you can lock. You put it in a shared fridge and it lock it into the grates, no one can take it out without the key.

Or, as someone states, freezer packs and keep your lunch with you.

I've also totally seen some people in an office bring in their own mini fridge and put it under their desk... that one seems really extreme to me though. XD

Maybe it's time to get creative and invest in discouraging packaging?

Sorry for the theft - UGH, I can't imagine your frustration. Who steals things like that?!? Far too many people, apparently. :/

Happened to me loads. So i bought my own mini-fridge and parked it under the desk in my office! No more missing hummus. Or beer. I even had a jar of pickled brussels sprouts go walkies. Can you imagine?

I taught at a school where food from the community refrigerators often went missing. My class was doing a science fair project that required popsicles (to see which color melted the fastest in the sun).

I put the popsicles in a plain brown bag labeled "Science Experiment - Do Not Eat".

The popsicles remained safe and sound in the freezer until they were needed.

But my own lunch? Always packed in an insulated bag and kept in my classroom.

sorry, but that made me LMAO
we had food vanishing from our fridge at work for a while... until there was as strange sizzle in the kitchen.
Stupid secretary that stole a half a meal from takeway put it in the microwave with the paper cover and alu bowl.

confronted with this she replied "oh, I thought you guys didnt want to want to eat that stuff anymore."

RIGHT. that is why we put it in the FRIDGE, not the TRASH -.-
