Firstly congratulations on making the decision to make a lifestyle change! I agree with Kscott.. dont think of it as a diet... it is definitely a transformation ... to a new lifestyle, so it takes time...
And I know about the yo yo's and Ive seen it so many times friends and family trying one 'diet' after another that just does not work for them.
What worked for me is eating clean all natural no ready meals or processed food. And I got on the Project 10 Challenge which is AWESOME! Has changed my life!!! Losing weight by focusing on 10 pounds at a time, doing it with friends and a big support group and for every 10 pounds I lose, 30 healthy meals are donated to a child who suffers from obesity or malnutrition
